DFO, Dragonica, and Maplestory-esque. (Side scroller)

Lately my friend has been on me about playing DFO because I'm "really missing out." Well I've played Maplestory and Dragonica and from what I've seen of DFO, it looks like a copy pasta version with worse graphics - and as I may not care too much about amazing graphics, if I have a choice of WoW at lowest setting and WoW at highest, I'm taking the highest.

That being said from what I've read DFO does get really grindy (as well as MS and DO). So I guess my question is for  side-scrolling games similar to that of DFO, MS, and DO, is their any that isn't insanely grindy?

I do understand the need for a grind when its possible to mass AoE mobs and dungeons, and I don't mind grinding, but I don't want to do the same thing for 5 hours to get one level. Especially when it's the same thing I'll be doing for the next 10 levels.

DFO reminded me of a deeper street fighter, imo... but with only one PvP room, and the barrels blocked the view at times.

I'm currently in the CB of Metal Assault, which is a korean 2d sidescroller like Metal Slug (obvious name borrowing). You should check aeria games' site and see some vids and if the signups are still open.

I should add I'm looking for PvP in the game as well. Does Metal Assault have it? (Or will it since its in Beta?)

    Yep, and it's pretty fun.

There should be vids on their site or youtube, I mean it's a beta, that means "fraps me" these days.

Metal Assault did look like fun but I was kind of hoping for a game with some fantasy involved. (Don't get me wrong, I do have the slight urge to play the game now :P)

I like my Wizard class a lot.

DFO is not a maple story clone at all. The game is based around pure action combat, with chaining combos, dodging your enemies counter attacks or big moves. The only thing this game as in common with mapple story is the anime style? and even then its not nearly the same (DFO looks a lot more serious).

PvP is extremely fun but can be laggy based on how far the player is from you (or if he abuses it by starting downloads). next patch is supposed to fix that.

It only becomes slightly grindy in the late 30s (out of 60) to.
