You know what we can tell from the videos? The graphics look awesome and the mobs behave like the mobs in every other MMO on the planet (except Ryzom, which someone will post). You know what we can tell from the developer interviews? The graphics look awesome. Oh, and the mobs will behave like every other mob in every other MMO on the planet. Except Ryzom (which someone will post).
...
And that's it. Everything else is just supposition and wishes. It could be the usual grind fest with a voice over storyline while you're grinding away at those mobs. It could be something truly innovative but it probably won't be as good as you wish it was right now.
Rest assured, the graphics will look awesome. And the mob thing which I'm sure you get by now.
The gold sellers and the bots wasnt really what ruined aion, IMO...
it was the damn high numbers (xp bar) and the community. You play a game, you read comments everyday in general chat about how much the game sucks compared to othe games, after a while, you really notice these things people troll about:P
Im not saying those were Aions only mistakes though, there was lots of them,.
hoping NCsoft will do a better job with this one:) (...even though I really doubt it:P)
The team has stated with Pride the only localization they will do is language. That basically means this is gonna be a grinder. This is a game made for Koreans, they like grind its not gonna be absent. Game will still probably be worth a try, but it will suffer probably from the exact flaw Aion did.
Isn't just about every game NcSoft makes is for the Eastern market ?
Looks nice but i don't have to many hopes that i will go past the candy looks to seriously play the grind. This is a NCsoft game made by a Korean development team anyone who says there won't be grind is a goofball.
The only P2P game I'm really waiting for patiently to play with guild wars 2.
Aion wasn't that grindy and ncsoft lessened it more so they do listen to people requests your just nitpicking because you want to level fast.
At least korean games show some new features/innovation look at most western games yea look at rift for example no need to even coment... were's the innovation in most western games?
Well grinding quests and dungeons for gear has been overdone in the west for ages now getting old, just like Rift just another western dungeon grinder.
I will put this on my try it out list along with TERA, GW2 and ArcheAge.
I think it looks great much better than a world of warcaft and that game is not a grinding game this is real innovativ not like most western mmorpgs. I'm really looking forward for that game.
Amusing to see a plethora of commentary regarding grind in an NCsoft product..as amusing as myself going to a WoW forum (a game i dislike passionately) and complain about the fast paced levelling curve..very productive : )
So leaving that aside,i personally have a different worry..it looks really good, and the way that combat will be made, controls- wise, even more..What worries me is that it looks to me as yet another 'super-pc only' product..hope i'm wrong. May be where i live, and even more what my own financial capabilities are,but i do find it rather discouraging being left out,or feeling so,but this top of the line needed game clients..yes,one can upgrade,or plan to if one is tight,sure..but assuming most of the games are to be tried out at some point or another, this entails upgrading far more often than i usually find financially sane..like do i upgrade for FF14? i cant run it now..maybe wait for tera? If i do for Terra, how long before i need to have more money to upgrade again for sth like BaS? Anyhow, you get the point..in any case,it sure is on my list, never minded anime, just as i never saw the need for Disney prototypes to be a norm.

I dislike this sort of mentality if I am completely honest, this is the problem with some people nowadays they want better but they want it in older technology, which is just not possible, and even if it was the amount fo research and money needed would be mad.
Hardware manufacturers spend millions of pounds and years of research to come up with some of these technologies.
Now from your post you do like the gameplay and the graphics so you do want these technologies, but you want developers to spend the millions developing the same technology for older incompatible hardware instead of using tools that have already gone through this process, this is simply not going to happen.
Now you can rant all you want about developers using new technology but it is not up to you, if you cant upgrade your hardware then unfortunately you will have to look for games that are lower technology and that your machine can run, also if you cant afford to upgrade your pc like that maybe you should also start looking into console gaming as that is its main purpose you will run every game on its maximum settings without any need for upgrading.
I for one hate games that look at how they can make everyone run it on their 8 year old machine ( which to some degree they already do anyway ) rather than improve and use better technologies, better rendering systems and overall a much better experience.
All valid points you have there,i won't disagree with you
I just try you see to tell myself i must leave this (MMOs) as something i do when i need to kill time, something less than a hobby,it being say swimming and jogging for me, i.e. something within the reality sphere if you will, and as such i keep gaming in a lower position in my "to-spend-for" hierarchy Within good reason of course,i won't go for using a relic as a gaming pc All in good measure kind of a thing. So this being the case,i question whether to raise and spend money on upgrades very often, again, just me,your points in your view are just as valid. Maybe i would too had i not been so disappointed with so many games in the past? Possibly. In this case however,my saying "i hope" mostly entails the company programming it well,so as it doesnt leech off everything my unit has for nothing, something that occurs often with other companies' products..i think this is something that always shows,am no techie, but having tried most of what is out there, you do get to see these insane differences between requirements and performance.
Watched the videos, doesn't seem very interesting, same asian mmo tropes, a lot of promises but "a story" for each server sounds like a euphemism for linear.
Combat looks good to me, a little different then what we're used to these days, or at least me. Graphics of course are great but that's the unreal 3 engine showing it's greatness. I've never been on that bandwagon that hates on korean games, loved L2 myself. I usually hate western games more then eastern ones, I just hope that it brings more to the table then is available these days, I like that it's a little different then what we're used to but I want to see more before I consider it as a viable option for me.

The vid that Onionsoup posted looked kind of like Dynasty Warriors to me when I first watched it. I hope PvP doens't end up looking like the same 3 character models fighting eachother. I would like some more diversity with the character models and how they hold their weapons.
i dont know, I think it looks good... what Aion should have looked like in the first place, but if the Grind is as heavy, I think that will ruin the game and we have another korean grind fest >.<
Grind doesn't ruin a game for me. BORING grind ruins the game for me.
What MMO doesn't have grind in it in some form or fashion? NONE! That's the nature of an MMO.
Whether you are grinding instances, grinding mobs or grinding out some profession, etc. it still has grind and to me that is what separates a good MMO from a bad one. I like a complex fun grind but don't like boring ones. Aion Level 38-39 and level 46-50 was boring grind to me. The quests were boring but for the sake of argument here, I'm just explaining what I considered a real bore to death grind. After you killed so many zombies in brusthonin (as an Asmo) or did the elite area in Morhiem in the 30s, that crap got to people pretty hard. They just needed more content to help keep the minds off killing same mobs for 5 days straight for 6 hours. Which is sometimes what some had to do. However, when I played this in China, I learned about that section early on so I saved quests in preparation to shoot past and still had to mob grind some.
Characters seem to be locked in animation for way too long during each skill use.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Looks good, but as with all games, I'm skeptical. Even more so skeptical because of NCSoft and what happened with Aion. As for the grind, I don't care as much so long as it's fun. If it's a fun grind, you'll barely notice the grind part at all.

Your comment made me lol:P
It looks delicious, but so did L1 L2 and Aion and we all know what happend in those games....Bots and gold sellers ruined those games to the ground.
Not only that, but the grinding was /zombie mode X 500 times...
It has potential, but Ncsoft always find a way to kill their own games with the speed of light.
The gold sellers and the bots wasnt really what ruined aion, IMO...

This look great !!
The only porblem i have is.. it seem like it takes a while to kill 1 mob .....and if i have to kill 20x mob for a quest it would suck lol
looks better than any mmo you could ever develop in your entire life, for sure
Isn't just about every game NcSoft makes is for the Eastern market ?
Looks like it could be pretty fun.
I'll continue to keep an eye on it until I can get hands on time with the game itself, but all in all things appear to be shaping up nicely.
Thanks for sharing

To me it looks very interesting , innovative after watching RIFT's gameplay footages
It looks great, but I wont hold my breath over BnS.

Yeah, I don't like good stuff either.
