Limit on MMOs???

MysticBeastMysticBeast Member UncommonPosts: 46

I personally feel that there is 2many MMORPGs out there, and i think that there should be a limit on how many MMOs can be publish in 1year.

My reasons for saying this is that we would see alot of more quality MMOs being made and we would see less "Clone Wars"

also i think the population in games would be alot bigger, which would make the MMOs be what there suppose to be.

Now lets go back to 2001,2002, 2003 there was alot less MMORPGs then and alot more people playing them, tho there wasnt that many MMO gamers back then as there is now, but i just feel like if we had alot less MMOs these days but better quality ones we would have alot more people playing with.

It sucks when u start a game and there is only a few newbies running along with you and because there is not that many people playing the game u get bored and quit, thats what MMOs were not suppose to be most of them are empty deserts with no people in sight for miles and it just takes the immersion out.

So my question to people is would you like to have a limit on how many MMORPGs are released every year, should we have a good hand full of really good MMOs released in 1year, or would you like to see over couple hundred MMOs released every year?

With billions of people on this planet with many different kind of taste its not realy posible to limited to few releases a year.

Or you want to regulate and limited the freedom of publishers and dictate how many can be made and released every year lol.

But i agree to many look alikes, but you have the choice of freedom to choose whatever you like no one force you to play any of them:)

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

no i wasnt talking about limiting the freedom of publishers, i was just saying that shouldnt it be better to publish more quality games, then making the same games over and over only with different skin.

Also i think the genre would be on much higher level if less games were published with better quality it would make the makers of game try and make there game something much better and bigger.

Maybe we would ended up seeing what ArenaNet is doing with Guild Wars 2 and Bioware with SW:TOR and TERA few years back!

More people would be playing with you and there would be alot more good times in game and alot more friendships being born, thats just my opinion tho and i respect everyone elses opinion!

The limit would quickly be filled by awful item mall grinders, and then the games you actually want to play wouldn't be able to be released because the industry was already at the limit.

There already is a limit on mmorpg's. 1.

The vast majority are money maker skinner box hack n slash that fufil the imaginary technical requirements to advertise themselves as MMORPG. Then charge more because of this label. Or use this label to give value to item mall merchandise.

There are a few that are fantastic games btw. So good they're well worth paying extra. But still not an mmorpg.

Let's limit the number of times companies can be unoriginal. You get to copy a game or design once unless it's your own. After that you should be crucified by the media. For being lame. Sound good?

    See you in the dream..

Ok,not being rude here but are u bloody mad as a hatter ? image how can u justify which MO to pick would u have a Dragons den type jury accessing each Alpha/Beta the gold release also what would the premise be would the company with the most polished MO win,or the most creative but possibly fringe game win the day.

Take Rift stunning codework props to Trion but overall the game follows a set formula but as a launch project was a very successful Beta, now take Mortal online complete launch failure Starvault have major problems, the game is and still will be buggy but it adds something fresh to the Mo landscape.

So how do u differentiate between which to choose which would then mean more job losses and the only games made would be safe as houses formula as investors would not take a chance,as the market would be very small and want of a better word would be saturated with WOW'ish F2P's/P2P's, as Mo's take years to develop which of these would get the chop if we lived in alternate Chinese stye distopia.

Archeage,Copernicus,Titan,WOD,Stellar Dawn,TSW,Tera and these are still in development so are u gonna then say well for example no to Titan as Blizzard have The megolithic WOW on their books have more staff, gain the most revenue and donate to the economy or Archeage Asian MO but most UO/Darkfall/Mortal Online/Xyson players dream sandbox type of game but less chance of success as it will be seen as a fringe game but not as a good financial package.

As i've posted before the Scene needs a kick up the arse, and 2011/2012 might be the year MO's emerge from the Dark ages and once again creativity rules.

The problem is what the OP wants is less MMOs but more quality ones, yet how do you get quality MMOs when the crappy ones aren't release for these developers to learn from. Like if Warhammer Online never came out and bombed, imagine what games like Rift and Guild Wars 2 would have been like. WAR had an interesting system yet failed for numerous reasons and it's good to always learn from past game's mistakes.

Also I don't quite understand why the OP is complaining when there are only about a dozen MMOs, releasing this year in the West, that are actually worth getting. Whereas in Asia they are mass producing the things to the point where there's no point even in trying to get into an MMO world or story (except maybe the few good Korean ones). So OP... why don't you do a little less complaing and a little more anticipating that an MMO would come out that will blow your mind. There's sure to be one in the next 2 years.

As for me, that title will be Guild Wars 2, a game that wouldn't be as awesome as it's going to be if it wasn't for all the sh*tty MMOs the developers have learnt from.

not being crazy lol. i like the many choices that we have in MMOs today, all i was trying to say more quality games would be better, and less mmos means more people you can play with.

Im saying this bcz some people like me have a limited time on playing games. So lets take Lineage 2 for example if i would start now there would be almost no new players like me everyone is already on there mid to high lvls and it would take serious amount of time to catch up with those players, and while im playing the game i will be playing by myself wont be able to party with anyone bcz there is no people around that are my lvl.

So what happens to MMO its out of picture yes ill see other people in towns and some places but in the end its going to feel like single player game bcz im alone, and im just using L2 as example or we can use Venguard. In the end there is alot of MMOs that are publish that i would like to play but dont really much time to end up playing 3or4 different MMOs at the same time sense every MMO requires you to spend alot of time playing it. Also if there was less MMOs and i was the company making it i would either go with p2p or b2p type and say 20million people buy b2p mmo the company would make awsome profit. These is all just a discussion nothing more im not saying that i dont like the choices that we have today i do, but im just wondering where the genre would be today if less clones were made and companys spends more time making there game the best it can be instead of making it in 1year. As i said in my previous post maybe we would ended up seeing games that GW2 TOR TERA Blade & Soul ArchAge are striving to be something new much sooner then 2011and2012, instead we have WoW that is the light in the dark and its being for the last decade.

Also what happens when next blizzards project Titan gets released and it ends up being the same as WoW occupies the market and then what we have to wait another 10years in order to get something new???

not complaing just wondering whats peoples point of view on it!

Same here i cant wait for Guild Wars 2, as i said numerous times "One Game To Rule Them All, One Game To Bring Them All, One Game To End Them All, And In The Darkness Bind Them" lol just saying
