The State of the game.

Hello all now after moving on from Earthrise i have now made my way to Xsyon.

It took about 4 hours to download the 4gig of data to play this game .I found the website to be really easy to Order and arrange a account to the game so that is a big plus.

The game is Not designed yet to play Full screen . Because of the dynamic's of this game it takes a little extra time to load I found in fullscreen the game when it loaded it crashed alot and took me 20min or so to get into game.

Once i Changed back to windowed mode the game loaded in 5min again this is becuase of the Dynamic Nature of the game .

After the load i looked at my freshly loaded charictor and then arround at my world.

WOW what a site i had spawned in a world that anyone can change given enough time there were burnt out buildings and in the background a mountian range. Since i had read things on the forums before i hopped in game i decieded to head to the hills.

I made my way arround half made campments to my fortune i didnt meet anyone witch i am told can be a good thing after about an hour playing i had made it to a nice place in the mountians that had a creek , a few tree's and lots of natural resorces arround me.

Now the game is hard i will say this there is no direction at all and everything is by trial and error .The people on using the /y command were helpful and though any lack of tutorial i found the game to be a better experance then Earthrise was.

The Crafting is insane and is defently a driving factor to the game . In my small time i had caught about 10 fish and cutdown about 10 tree's and finialy worked out how to make a firepit.

This game isnt for the feint hearted and the learning curve is big. Its an enjoyable world so far and has huge promise. There is alot of content missing and the dev's have said as much though i can see what they are trying to do and if they pull it off it wil be a big game .

The game is playable now as with all sandboxes alot of content is player driven my advice is this if you play the game .

from the spawn point run away from it and find a nice place 30min + from where you spawned . Then start on learning tools first .

I give this game 7.5 star's i will revise it weekly.

Addition : Though this game has manny good features there is something that plagues this game randomly to the users.

When the game loads it loads all the new entities of the world. ( all the dynamic changes players have made. I find that this takes from 10min-35min depending on the changes that have been made.)

This is a real buzz kill as i would expect 5min to be the max loading time for a game these days.

This brings the score down to 6.5 stars as the loading time is a killer to my limmited playing time.

Current games;
Star treck online
Rift
Eve online
Firefall

Do you think the load time is dependant on your connection or just a flaw in the way its designed?  That is an insane load time..  So much for hopping on for a half hour lol

I have had this discussion with some of the people on the server and this only happends when it loads entities (witch from what i have gathered in information is when the clients machine talks to the server and gathers the information of the changes to the landscape. The thing of it is there are lots of people with the same issue as me and there are also  people who it loads in the space of 2-4 min.

I am going to try something tonight to do with shaders so i wil change that setting tonight to see if that makes a differnce from what i am readin it is defently something server side thats causing this issue. Its not client related from what i can gather. But once the game Loads it runs fine. Though i have noticed i cannot get the game to run in fullscreen it just simply times out.

My conection and my machine are not the problem i ran bandwidth counters last night and the upload/download to thier servers were under 100meg when i connected.

It seems to me that the time is variable, depending on where in the world I had logged off.

When I log out at my tribe and start again the loading time is longer than when I log out in the wilderness. Somehow all the changes to the gameworld (mainly terraforming) need to come to your PC before you can play, obviously in a heavily populated and terraformed zone this is a much larger amount of data than in the wilderness in the mountains.

Certainly there are lots of factors with the "Loading Entities..." time, it doesn't seem related to your connection nor your PC specs. I think their server is the bottleneck there...

Also this review was posted yesterday? But you mention /y (you say .y, I assume you meant /y) which was removed from the game weeks ago?

Yes that was a Typo thanks for brining that up. I will fix that in my main post .

"Update " The game only took 6min to load last night after i disabled all the shaddows. Strange people seem to be getting this issue randomly.

Cy, thanks for your review!  I really want to jump in the game and play.  A lot of people have issues with the graphics, however after looking at all the screenshots I don't.  I don't need the game to look like Lothlorien in Lotro as long as the game mechanics are good.  I can deal with all the short comings of the game including the load times, however I just don't want to put the investment (both monetary and time) in the game I know I'll put into it, then 3 months later Notorious Games announces the game is going to shut down for good.  Please someone convince me this isn't going to happen!!!

im kinda in the same boat.. i really want to give it a try but something is keeping me from getting it right now

  • cyriciancyrician Member UncommonPosts: 189

Well From what i can see they havnt given up yet there have been 3 patches in the last Week , I will say this to anyone thinking of playing though.

The Game is a Alpha it is not a complete game they are slowly adding content at present there are some features that arnt even included.

Though I give this  game a 7.0 is is by far means not complete though i find it enjoyable to play and the graphics are quite nice. The Crafting system is second to none and you actualy can terraform large area's.Its also because of this that the game does take longer to load then others i play .

The PVP aspect of the game from what i have seen is almost non existant and there is no balance in pvp at all though i am still young to the game.

There are some brilliant Tutorials on you tube reguarding the game i sujest you watch them they are extremely helpful.

I'm really caught in a catch 22 because at the same time, I don't want to join the game when it's overcrowded.  It would be a nightmare to create a character then spend the next hour  running away from hungry pvp'ers.  I would want to be able to "run for the hills" so to speak as the OP did.

    image

  • cyriciancyrician Member UncommonPosts: 189

If you join the game now you will not have that problem of overcrowding there are about 10 people on when i play in my timezone and from what i have seen on the forums mabyee 200 people play at most the world is that big you can walk arround and not see a person for days.

I made a new char last night after deleting my old one and went for terraforming so i now have a shovel!!.

I am cancelling my account.  The game is, simply put, not fun.  Gets very boring with the lag spikes, continuous clicking and I think, was poorly developed.

    but that is me.

That's not just you.  I'm no longer paying to support a game that's incomplete "." (period).  I've had it with the half-assed developers thinking "I can do it better" and releasing an alpha test they expect people to pay for.  There's a reason AAA titles sell for $40-$60 and bring in $15/month, they cost millions to make and a lot of these "basement programmers" should learn that.

Well, they're free to try, but they shouldn't lie about their progress.

They should not throw up a massive and complex feature page, say the features are 80% complete, will be in by release and [at the time of my purchase,] that release is less than a month away. MAny other lies, such as restricting pre-orders to maintain a managable serverload and immersive launch into the world. Too bad they changed the forums halfway through  the whole ordeal so you can't go back and quote these things -- even then you'd have fanboys ignoring these points.

I can't seem to write enough about this because it's just offensive on every front. Jordi is a poor business man, an unethical salesman, and an incompetent leader.

He's made this wreck game on his or someone elses money and donated time, and apparently has no external investors. Keep in mind he apparently fired his entire programming team at the Mar 2010 launch date because the coding wasn't what he wanted. Really? The lead didn't think to check their work in the years you worked on this game, before claiming that features are 80% complete, and before selling pre-orders?

Well, 1 year later, and the entire Feature list is STILL 80% done...

The actual problem seems to be that each feature is 80% done, therefore none are implimented because none are 100% done ! :D

The game has more potential than any other game I've seen in a long time, BUT...I'm almost certain it'll never make it to that point.

    For example...

Post from one of the Lead Developers at 1PM (CST) today...

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Server has crashed at a critical point and needs to be restored to the last maintenance scheduled (Friday: 10:00 AM GMT/UTC (2:00 AM PST).

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience to the players, We will endeavor to make sure these rollbacks do not happen again.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The result was a 9.5-10 hour rollback today of the entire server...including player progress...

It's gettin' quiet around the forums there...

I suppose their new Dev team member Dezgard  is habituated with the way of doing things in his home country of China.

I am also going to cancel my sub.. After you mess around with the crafting and terrain system for a few hours you realise that there aint much else to do at the moment and that clicking the same button over and over and over and over and over to craft each item or do any task gets boring fast..

10 guys from my guild all pre-ordered and after beta and the mess of reelase none of them play.

Things have got really interesting in Darkfal.. big war on the EU server so I am spending most of my time in there and really time have the time to even try and log into Xsyon as the last time i looked it can take upto 30 mins..

Does this game have potential? yeah sure it does but the dev team is so small i cant see it working out.. but ill keep checking back every so often u never know it might get good..

  • halldorrhalldorr Member UncommonPosts: 105

Armanidevil, your stuff is removed immediately from the forums there and I can understand that from their side of things. However, I am wondering what you guys have been stating that is being removed. I actually applied to your tribe but never heard you guys weren't playing anymore until I saw you guys start to post there.

Well, from what has been posted here one might have to conclude the state of the game is..... poor?

Well, the potential is there, hopefully they can survive long enough to realize the dream.

I appreciate your PM Dez and I apologize as well. Your intentions were misunderstood by myself.

I'm gonna cool down and come back to the game with a level head.

I'm really sorry about that Hall. Our tribe's just gone through a major bleedout of players, and I haven't been taking it very well. Regulators, Audacian Republic, Redtail, Praetorian Guards & New Quahog are all fine groups if you're still looking. Hopi is on hiatus for the time being.

I'm hoping things improve soon because although I'm having fun, the bleeding of long time supporters who have been waiting a long time for this stuff is certainly demoralizing.
