I find every western democracy that still has a monarchy embarassing. And what's even more embarassing is that peoples lives are so boring that they care and cheer for them.

Yeah... kind of embarassing that the Constitutional Monarchy works so well.

Anyway... what a great idea for an MMO... you take the role of a Royal or a Wannabe Royal and have to avoid scandal and marry your way to the top!

Quest # 1 to prove your love for the Lady (Lady in the Noble Title sense)... Foil 5 Paparazzi and bring me their Zoom Lenses...

    Welcome in 2011.

Your arguments that a constitional monarchy is an inferior form of government are based on the grounds of what exactly? Which country are you from and is it doing much better than the UK?

People's lives are super boring because they care about their country's traditions?

This thread is absolutely pointless and should be locked as it only ridicules the culture, traditions and beliefs of a nation. Should I start a new thread where I can pick on some random nation out there?

i agree with this, for living here in uk 2 years and seeing what this country have become, the royal wedding was important message to brittish citizens to remember where they come from and who they are. with country so many different nationalities identity is long gone so this kinda happenings reminds the roots.

and heck. there arnt any decent mmos out atm that i would rather play than watch the royal weddings.

cheers and GG for UK for at least once!

Such a disgusting and callous waste of money that could have been much better spent helping those that truly needed it.

I'm sure this guy would agree.

True, but that could be said for a lot of things we spend our money on.

I'm just not a socialist at heart.

And heck, if you really believe that do you withhold buying a game or stopping a sub so you can give to a worthy cause? Do you even have a list of worthy causes you give to? Or do you volunteer your time with needy kids or help the homeless?

    Well I know I don't.

I do know that my girlfriend puts her money where her mouth is and has a list of charities she gives to each year.

The problem with decrying how someone spends their money, even if I agree with you, which I sort of do, is that it's very easy to say "this is how people should spend their resources, helping people" but how many of us actually do it in our own way?

Besides, one can make the argument that it puts money into the economy, employs people, etc.

I think the fact that some people were even awake at that time in the other side of the world (such as those who said it was 4 AM or so) and whose only choices and purpose of being awake at that time was either a) Play an MMO or b) watch the Royal Wedding is scary. Especially if your only choice besides watching the Royal Wedding at that time was playing an MMO. Now, do not get me wrong. I play MMOs and I love them, hence why I am constantly on this site reading news and what not, but seriously the only reasons why I would be even awake at that time are a) I am studying or b) I am out with some friends. I'd rather get a good night sleep. Also, the fact that someone started a thread about this is sad.

Now, for those close minded people. The Royal Wedding is a huge part of the UK's culture, and monarchy in general is part of European culture. Some people care about it, and if you don't you are not obliged to watch it. Let me remind you that not everyone likes to play MMOs, so their second option wouldn't be putting aside their favorite MMO. As for my answer, yes I would put aside my favorite MMO, but not to watch the wedding. I would actually be getting a good night sleep, seriously.

Also, for those complaining about them being rich brats and not helping the poor and so on. Why don't you go outside of your houses for once and try to help people, if you care so much? Instead of telling people that they should give away their money for charity, why don't you give your own money? Oh wait, that's right, because it is your own money. It's easy to criticize others and not look into your own flaws. They have a lot of money, so what? Who cares, deal with it. They are free to spend it on whatever they want, it's their money. No body is telling you how to spend your money, unless you are married of course. I think there are far bigger problems in this world than to worry about things such as other people's wealth, or playing your favorite MMO late night/early morning or watch a wedding. In fact, you should be thankful that you have the money to spend on monthly fees to pay MMOs, because out there there are people who would kill to have those extra 15 bucks a month. It's time to get out of your house and open your eyes. The world is not a pretty rainbow with happy clouds, stop worrying about such things.

I'm so glad it's over with, now we just have to deal with another couple of weeks of people STILL talking about it.. -_-" I really don't see what the big deal is/was, found their spotlight worse than the Bieber craze.. if anyone mentions it to me at this point i'm just going to tell them point blank to shut up.

The funny thing is though, if you ask someone why they cared so much they can't even give a sensible answer lol.

But here we all are talking about it still, even though most of us despised it, fuck! Shut up me!

I've spent the last 18 years of my life helping those less fortunate than I, and not in a "just pop a few quid in the post to my favorite charity" kind of way, thank you very much. (Not that I mean to belittle your GFs acts of charity in anyway. Good on her.)

Socialist leanings have F all to do with my sentiments. Since British tax payers are footing most of the bill for these two horse faced, uppercrust, clowns, I'd say we have every right to criticise this massive and needless waste of public funds. Its an especially hard slap in the face when you consider how much government spending cuts will effect essential services this year. "Oh well we don't have enough money to fund libraries, the police, the military, or the NHS, but we can still piss away 32 million on the marriage of two people because they are more important than you little people."

Sorry to lash out at you, but your "Well so what we waste money all over the place" attitude gets right up my nose. Mainly because I hear it from so many people, so often. It makes about as much sense as me telling you that little Jimmy just shot someone and we need to do something to stop him, and your answer is "Oh well, he shoots lots of people, I wouldn't worry about it." image

Hey no offense taken and good on you that you spend your time helping people. But my point wasn't to say "hey you dont' help people" much as it was to say that "if" you dont' then it's hard to justify saying that others have to do what many don't do. Many  people "don't" help people. Not many people can lay claim to spending 18 years helping those less fortunate. Surely you get this? How many people have you seen tell other that they need to start towing the moral high ground but they don't do the same?

If the british tax payers are paying for this wedding then bad on the royals in my opinion. One would hope that money is going back into the economy.

But I really do think, tax payers aside: which as I mentioned I think is horrible, it's just way to easy to point at someone and say "hey, your use of money can be better used elsewhere.

I'm sorry but people buying large huge flat screen t.v.s expenseive bmw cars, and having 3 houses could just as well be using that money for the good of others. you dont' need a large tv, bmw or several houses when some people have none. Houses that is. One doesn't need a TV, let alone some large TV or in some cases some people might not even need a car.

However, my stance is that as long as someone has made their money legitemately they get to spend it any way they want.

I'm just not a believer that people have to spend their own money (read; "own" money) in a way that others feel they should.

Because again, someone can always point to you and say "do as I say because I'm right'.

Are you telling me that attitude wouldn't grind your gears just as much? I've read many of your posts and you seem to be a very independent thinker. I HIGHLY doubt you would ever put up with someone telling you how to spend your money.

Same goes with other people. Again, their own money made in a legitimate way.

If someone wants to buy a rocket car, gold mansion and a stripper wife when their money could have been used to better a downtrodden neighborhood then that is their option. I don't believe I have the right to tell them how to spend their own money.

My stance has always been wealth is good AND if one finds themselves in a great financial position then they should give back. i know I do that on occassion though not to any great extent.

But I would never assume the moral high ground and start pointing to poeple and telling them how to use their money.

On the issue of tax payers money. The British Royal familiy more than pay for themselves, yes this wedding will have had a certain cost to the tax payer, even if it is just the cost of the policing presence but it will have been more than offset by the taxation raised from tourism as thousands of tourists flocked to watch it. And it isn't just the wedding, there is a very profitable tourist trade year in, year out thanks to the Royal family. And thats before even touching on the work they do representing small and medium sized British business abroad in trade deals that directly helps genrate both jobs and economic growth, prince Charles is a bit of a pillock, but his work is fantastic in this area imho.

I'll put it this way, is it worth say forking out 100 million a year to let a bunch of nitwits parade around as Royalty if they generate 200 million in tourism, 500 million in the econimic growth of British business and millions more for charities. Plus the good work they do for our armed forces. For me it is worth the price of putting up with them as long as they generate a net possitive for Great Britain PLC.

As for me, no I didn't watch the wedding, I was frankly sick of hearing about it, but I don't begrudge others watching and enjoying it as I'm sure millions did, apparantly over 18 million people watched it on the BBC alone, lol, that's almost a third of our population or something.

Seeing as it made literally thousands of British citizens absolutely ecstatic and took, and for many, it took the minds off of a series of devastating storms that decimated towns across the South, I'd say it was a great use of tax payer money.

I have a question for the Brits..

and Im not bringing this up to try and step on any toes or anything like that,I just find it so hard to understand..

These Royals - the King,Queen,Prince,Princess et al...what do they do for your country?

If I understand right - and correct me if im wrong here - they all live off the tax payers money. All their riches, their mansions, estates, assets, clothing, cars, everything is paid for by the British taxpayer....and they do nothing more than just hold their title?

Are they really nothing but figure heads?

On top of that, this wedding practically puts your whole country to a halt, everyone gets a day off costing the country billions of dollars..not to mention what the actual wedding cost was.

Again, billions of dollars in money over 2 people getting married..

Please correct this if its wrong.Im hoping that it IS wrong because I just cant see how this is logical at all really..

Im really not trying to rub anything in here,it just really blows my mind if it is true..
