dco is 1 of the best mmos out right now but if your mind set is that wow is a good game then plz stay there and stfu. Rift is a pure copy of warhammer and wow shit the graphics engine is actually the warhammer engine. Also every game that has done diffrent then wow has had a huge pop at the start then dwindled down to the people that actually know what a good mmo is and the rest of the mindless zombies went back the wow "the mmo for dummies' it's like on of them for dummies books.
I just love how someone will always come along and blame players for the failure of an mmo. It doesn't matter which game it is that is bombing they find some way to excuse the piece of crap and find something else to blame. Lets ignore the huge list of bugs, exploits, poor design, lack of just about everything from interface to content, the almost complete lack of communication from the developers, that laughably late holiday events and so many other issues dragging this game kicking and screaming to an early grave. Instead lets blame players for not recognizing how awesome DCU really is.
The simple fact is that if DCU was one of the best mmos on the market people would not be leaving in near record numbers. The game would not be merging from 26 down to 4 total servers.
Well my complaint is I can't get to my ps3 to play games as the wife and child are always ahead of me in the queue.
Server merges are a good thing, they should consider omni-servers like Eve and just have bigger worlds. More interation, more player driven actions.
Except if the game stops that, I figure the big mistake was not to go B2P, shit you have to buy the disk, its a console game, why the hell make people pay a sub? Stupid mistake, Rift should take wind of this.
The theory is real, go free get 100x more players, 10% will pay something 1% of the time and 1% will pay 10% of the time. The maths is really, they will end up making 1-10% more than a sub game.
Anyone who releases a subscription game in this market is an idiot, Go Mavel Online for starting off as a f2p...

suddenly im feeling tempted to try this game out, but i will not pay $50 bucks just to try it... is it on sale anywhere?... i missed the half price sale the other day due to broken pockets lol....
Where in the announcement did it mention "low populations"?
They did that on a terrible moment though, us skeptics, trolls and negativists will presume every possible kind of negative conclusions from that announcement, heck, even the MMORPG.com reporter did. If they released the game on a single-server achitecture from the beginning they wouldn't have to actually try to turn "server mergers" into "super servers". I have to admit that was some great PR creativity though, haha.
Not looking at it from a negative point of view it seems they're very quick to adapt, developers don't seem to give such a high priority to server merges even though in my opinion low population servers can increase retention issues.
Yes, Marvel Online looks like it's going to be a epic fail. An MMORPG where everyone are playing Iconic characters? So no customization and 100s of Spidermans running around or the game will be ultra instanced so to allow only one iconic character per instance.
the gameplay(combat inparticular) imo is dcuo's problem. It was a novelty for a mmo and people liked it cause it was newish but that form of combat and the little to non existant mmorpg standard features and the general shallowness is why people left. DCUp is more like an arcade game you throw a few tokens at on weekends. it just doesnt have enough MMO meat to warrant a Subscription

Decent action game, mediochre MMO. I wish all games would recognize the need to merge this quickly. Look at rift or Conan. Same problem. Devs need to start figuring out how to get everyone on one server, not 10s of them.
This isn't suprising. I never bought the game after beta. I maxxed out 2 characters during beta and though it was a fun game, I saw no reason to pay monthly for it. Very simple and very easy.
DCUO has a horrible interface, but great gameplay, and combat that other MMOs wish they could pull off. It got tainted with exploits and ran out of content for gamers who either want to solo and actually progress, and players who group but don't want to do the same thing every single day or week. I'm not sure how WoW pulls this off, I can't stand the repetitiveness of either game.
But if DCUO had good open pvp, other endgames, more rp elements, and more endgame content that wasn't overtuned, I'd prob still be playing it, and I bet I'm not alone. Of course a UI overhaul wouldn't hurt either.
Well... In all honesty at the current it actually sounds more like a WoW-ish battleground solution.. Or like the cross-realm dungeon tool since it mentions only group activitys and nothing about handeling duplicate names and such. So based on that.. to my 10+ years of mmo experince it sounds more like they are pooling the quing system then merging the servers. Not saying i am right or that they do not chnage their minds if it does not work as intended.
Then again... Nothing is as fun as to jump to conclusions with a blind faith that you are right, safe knowing that you can always recoup with a snide "well they will crock the next thing up"

What happened to all the follks that were praising this game?

forgot to say, low pop is depressing, just found couple lvl 30 chasing me around while questing at lvl 5.... they suck, SOE suck... SONY make believe..... joke

Wow. This is almost as big a news story as when SOE recently gave a bunch of their employees a never ending vacation without pay!!

People are still playing this game? I imagined they all moved on by now.
They should have gone F2P, that is what this game is most suited as.

Epic fail in the works...

The Marvel F2P MMO will most likely destroy this game, it's just a fact that mainstream gamers tend to hate paying a sub to play.
It's one of the reasons that going into the mainstream pretty much killed this genre, but hey ho.
I really enjoyed the gameplay in DCUO, but it simply isnt worth a monthly sub IMO.
Or make a efffin trial for people to test the game, this will rise the population!

This have been a good conversation
At least there sticking with the superhero theme.
