The latest Final Fantasy XIV Producer's Letter has been released. The letter contains information about the 1.18 patch that developers are currently working on. The patch will not go live until mid-June but will contain the reworked battle systems and new dungeons for the 30-50 crowd.
But good things come to those who wait! Dungeons designed for ranks 30 and 50 are on their way, and 1.18 will see the start of our reworking of the battle system, as we bring in some changes to that area.
Also, we’re planning to introduce various new encampments that will serve as quest hubs. We’re in the process of testing these now on our development servers, and I strong-armed one of the designers in charge into handing over some screenshots for me to post here.

But good things come to those who wait !
MMORPG industry where every company can get away with releasing an unfinished mess by saying this one line.
"Also, we’re planning to introduce various new encampments that will serve as quest hubs."
Unreal, unreal. I think i know when someone wants to be dependent on others. And FFXIV is just doing that, totally dependent on WoW's questing theme. It's like they have given up on coming up with new idea.

Yoshi is trying really hard. And i think he is the first one in the industry that seriously meant what he said when he said that.
Please stop the WOW talk. Basically RPG has always comprised of quests, brought to you in different ways. WOW did not create questing. Hell, MMO did not create questing.
Um... I've played FFX, FFX-II, FFXI, FFXII, FFXIII, FFXIV.
6 FF Titles, FFX was released back in 2000ish. It was one of the top hits. Did it present story sure, was it fantasy sure. But it was still uniqe. The title still had its own feeling.
FFXIV is plagerizing WoW. So don't tell me to stop WoW talk when they(SE) are DOING it.

But how do you even know if they are plagerizing WoW. I am going to assume that you are referring to the quest hubs thing that Yoshi is talking about. In that case, I will wait until the patch is out.
If you are referring to the game overall, that is not an arguement for obvious reasons.
If quests in those quest hubs will be the same as mini quests already in game then the feature already failed hard. Let's hope SE actually learned something.. (I don't think so but we shall see).
WoW did not come up with the idea of questing. They too innovated on top of the successes of their predecessors.
Any good designer will look at successful ideas from previous games and weigh the pros and cons on if its going to be beneficial to the direction they want to take the game. Furthermore, a good designer will innovate and improve upon these ideas to further the development of the genre.
Any designer who discards a good idea simply because of its origin is the designer of a game I would never want to play.
Basically, be patient and see the direction FFXIV wants to take their questing system before jumping the gun.
jesus tap dancing christ it never ends...whatever they do people will complain and not be satisfied. and for the second time in as many minutes i have to agree with servedogg. i hope it doesn't turn into a quest grinder but since i don't know which way they are gonna go, i'll wait and see.
the struggle to free myself from restraints becomes my very shackles
i agree, so theres quests in an mmo, shock horror.
i guess it must be wow, oh wait, no. i guess it must be pretty much every mmo ever released.
yeah werent they touting doing something different in the beginning that didn't have the standard pickup and dropoff quests in a hub but they mentioned something like going out into the world and doing various things and quests just happen to appear or something along those lines?
personally i think they should all get rid of the ADnD style leveling, the quests in hubs, and the talent systems and just make it all skill based.
If really so then I might consider again to try to play FF14.
(Re-Writing first part because modded for flaming. Should go find much worse -direct and targeted- troll examples to mod elsewhere... Not to mention it IS part of my -complete- and -correct- argument. Now with more obvious explanation!)
The people saying that the "Quest Hubs" are going to be like WoW has probably never played FFXI or FFXIV and doesn't understand the current guildleve system or the subquest system of FFXI. If they did include such things it would be such a -Blatant- cut and paste style that Im pretty sure alot of the community (and programmers) would probably rage about. Mind you there may be subquests or starts or ends of sub/story/faction/party/raid/whatever quests and guildleves in these "hubs", but thats because they tie in with the current guildleve system.
by "Quest Hubs" They probably mean the areas where you can go and complete quests/areas that may have quests that you pick up from the guildleve counter in the various towns. (There certainly is alot of vacant space out there for them.)
For example level 1-10 in Limsa has the camp bearded rock, skull valley, and bloodshore gulch. Most of the guildleves require you to pick up a guildleve card and then travel to one of thesetowns/hubs to accept and do the quest.
The FFXI director is not going to make the standard quest picking hubs... That goes against everything he has ever done AND the direction the game is going. Think about it before you post.
... On the off chance that I am incredibly wrong and that they are indeed WoW styled Quest hubs... We are all doomed.
In other news: Yay more end-game content. Kinda. Haha :P.
