So, my girl and I are looking for a game, and neither of us can seem to find one we both like. Neither of us like PvP. "organized" optional pvp is great, or even forced faction based pvp like in WoW, where you're not camped 24/7 is fine, but we don't want a pvp centered game.
I'm HOPING to find one with a similar skill system to Runescape, but if you can find another that you think matches better, please tell us!
So far the o nes we've tried that had significant likes/dislikes for each of us:
WoW:
Me:
Likes: Nostalgia, party system, good classes
Dislikes: It's old, and I'm not used to cata
Her:
Likes: Nothing really.
Dislikes: Too easy, "no player interaction"
City of Heroes:
Me:
Likes: The general experience while in a correctly leveled group
Dislikes: clunky combat, too many choices for each class and yet there was a "right" choice
Her:
Likes: Nostalgia
Dislikes: The way the game has become a farm-fest
LOTRO:
Me:
Likes: None really
Dislikes: Classes aren't your typical classes, clunky combat
Her:
Likes: High end content
Dislikes: None
Xsyon:
Both of us:
Dislikes: It's bad in general.
EQ2:
Me:
Likes: The powerleveling system, the dungeons
Dislikes: the steep xp/difficulty curve
Her:
Likes: Race choices
Dislikes: "no player interaction"
Runescape:
Me:
LIkes: Nostalgia, Skill system, freedom
Dislikes: Browser based, lack of good quests
Her:
Likes: Skill system, Dungeoneering skill
Dislikes: Browser based, clunky.
Aion:
Me:
Likes: The classes, the combat
Dislikes: It just doesn't feel good, especially at higher levels
Her:
Same.

I know I will get slaughtered for saying this, but have you tried aion. The grind is greatly improved, though still enough there to not make the game easy mode. And they have added new content which vastly improves the gameplay. I can't remember the last time i lagged at siege (with a decent computer ofc).
Pros: graphics, PvP, overall content, very polished feel, smooth gameplay
Cons: not too many new people around (i think), still some grinding, faction vs factions is not for everyone,

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
No, you did good to recommend that. I've tried Aion 3x now, and each time got to about level 30. It's just a giant korean grindfest after that. Which, sometimes, for me is okay. But not in a western feeling game
Well, I'll go ahead and toss Guild Wars out there. The pvp is optional and is superb. The PvE aspect and grouping aspect of the game are also very good. I'm actually gathering up a few of my friends to start playing again this summer.
Additionally, I could toss out Final Fantasy XI. It's old and it's a grind from what I gather. PvP is relatively non-existant (it's there, but not a strong point). I'm speaking from ignorance because I've never played it, but know people who have and did a lot of research on my own. It seems to be very group oriented and have some pretty impressive missions and PvE content. Also, if you like the older Final Fantasy classes and graphics styles, I think the nostalgia factor would kick right in.
Just a side note, if you use Steam, Final Fantasy XI is only about $10 USD for the Ultimate Collection which is, I believe, all of the expansions and most if not all of the add-on scenarios. Plus, it comes with the first 30 days of game time.
That's my two cents for now. If something else pops in my head I'll post it. Happy game hunting
We've tried both of those. FF is a console port, and no good. And Guild Wars isn't really...multiplayer. I mean it is, but it's by no means an mmo, it's a singleplayer game that you can invite your friends to
Sorry if I didn't list every game we played. Watned to avoid tl;dr's
While GW is an excellent game I have a feeling someone that thinks that Wow and EQ2 isn't social enough probably will think the same.
FF XI would be a better choice but it is pretty old.
Vanguard maybe? It is more social than EQ2 and have a lot of interesting options. It is worth a free trial at least.
Or you can wait for GW2, sounds like it want to take social gaming to a new level there....
Hm. We could give VG a try, I suppose. Any other suggestions?
Give VG a try if SOE ever comes back up that is
Hmm...Do you mean that CoX is a farm fest now? I have been playing it recently a bit and it may be a little farmey but its still overall fun. You can get incarnate salvage even if you sidekick down to lower levels and stuff so I never really found a problem with it. My main problem right now is that my ex and I are too busy with uni to play it much xD
But seems like your girlfriend seems to want player interaction so Ill just toss a few your way..
Fiesta Online - The kings quests are seriously fun. Might not like the grind much though...
Rift - She liked LOTRO, you liked WoW quite a bit. I think Rift would be a decent addition to test.
Champions Online - Dress up!! @_@ Might complain of the lack of player interaction though...
Vanguard - It might be more social than EQ2 but the population is pretty low so...Im not sure how you and your girlfriend can tolerate that. Its pretty good though! If you can find people playing it o.o

Okay, lets reply to this one:
Fiesta, we haven't tried much. She's not into korean grindfests, nor am I.
Rift, we played, didn't like terribly, didn't hate terribly, but the fact you can get max in a week worries us. And that it's mostly pvp endgame.
Champions, I didn't like the combat system, but we're open to try it again.
VG, soe is down :P
Have you tried EvE Online yes it can be heavy PvP but easily avoided in High securtity systems I played it for YEARS probably longer than any game. Its fun its diffrent and free expansions lol. Now I just dont really game at all.
Darkfall has a skill system similar to Runescape.
Ohh EVE online is kind of fun but...Yah you need a good corp but...Most social things and fun things tend to happen in low/null sec so...PVP >.<
As for korean grindfests...Hmm...I prefer those to quest grinders TBH...lol
But since you did say you didnt like rifts and..I really would say to try two worlds 2 BUT you did in fact say that you dont like Guild Wars 2 because of how multiplayer is handled so... Its really hard to say because Co op RPGS tend to be better for social aspects as far as I saw...At least if youre looking to actually play with people instead of chat around...
FF14 would be good but the controls suck terribly and same goes for ff11 and well..Yeah the controls LOL
Umm... Im inclined to say DOMO but it IS a korean grinder but its much more social than all the games recommended here at least. Dont bother trying it though if you have 4gb of RAM or more. It has a bug where the game is unbearably slow when you have that much RAM.
DCUO wont really be fun...Again no social-ness. Rifts has raids iirc... Im not sure though never tried it..

I'd be willing to second the notion of waiting until Guild Wars 2. If you're looking for that social aspect, that game should hopefully have it. Granted, the massive amount of excitement surrounding Guild Wars 2 is likely to be inviting to the less... Mature? Mentally that is.
Aside from that, I suppose you could look at Atlantica. You might call it a quest grind. Interesting turn-based combat, generally good community. Being apart of a guild is very rewarding, and it has a skill system similar to that of Runescape's in the sense that there are a ton of skills to train. You can make just about any armor in the game. Take a look, you might enjoy that one.
Try Metal Assault to pass time, its very fun and has co-op.

We tried Champions once again. Neither of us could even begin to get into it. There was 0 desire to get higher to see if it got better.
How about Fallen Earth or WarhammerOnline or Lineage2(iv heard they have cut the grind greatly)

We were playing Fallen Earth for a while. I couldn't get into it.
Warhammer, we've tried that too, and it's not a good PvE experience.
Lineage 2 we haven't tried. Might check that out. Got lots of trials for it
I would recommend the following and in this order for a couple:
EQ
FFXI
Rift
I knew lots of married (or if you're not married then whatever) couples in EQ/FFXI that leveled together. These are great games because they really have forced grouping mechanics which you and your girl could build youself a duo that could level and invite other people to the group as they come along.
FFXI is also nice cause you can keep your respective roles at the same level and when the other isn't online you can go level your other jobs.

Everyone keeps recommending SoE games. Not like we can try them right away Making us really want to.
also looks at Mabonogi and Vindictus
