When Eq2 is down I miss it more than ever. No other game compares to Eq2 with its' 24 classes and more races than I can keep track of. The combinations truely feel endless. Player housing, guild halls, huge online economy, massive content to support multiple leveling paths, endless raid and group content, solo content, and tradeskills. Then there are the controls which are incredibly smooth and responsive. In most online games it is a chore to move the characters arround but Eq2 plays like a dream. Sometimes I just like to login and jump on rocks and on top of buildings and off of walls because the controls are so amazing it is fun. I have uninstalled games before after taking two steps and a jump if it doesn't have that the lucid dream type feel that Eq2 has.
No other game plays like Eq2 does. No other game has the depth or the content. So rather play those inferior games during this down time I spent the time finishing drawing this picture of my Eq2 Bruiser. It expresses how I feel everytime I login to play Eq2. I can almost feel the wind and the rush of jumping over baddies as I kick them in the face.

Must say the same, altough im only in my 30's in EQ2, I really enjoy the game. I have played most other MMO's out there till lvl cap and also raided in all of them and none of them has been as amazing as EQ2 have. Really hope it will come back up soon.
My biggest problems with EQ2 were the fact that while the game has like 24 classes, probably not even half of those are worth playing, and the game almost requires players to download custom UI pieces just to be able to play the game properly, especially if you play a scout-archtype or a healer.
Also, I was pretty disappointed upon hitting level 80 to learn that my ranger was so incredibly gimped in comparison to similar classes (was two years ago, still is today), and switching to Assassin, in addition to having to foot the bill for enrmous spell upgrade expenses and armor, means I would be forced to learn how to play what is considered by many the most difficult DPS class in the game. Not a fan of the spell rank system either or the epic weapon grind.
Ever play Assassins Creed? =p
EQ2's colors are super.

I really enjoyed EQ2 for a while, until they released a microtransaction store for in game items....
I must say that EQ II does alot of things right, like you mentioned. However where it lacks is in immersion, the zones seems so carefully designed that they feel constrictive and un-authentic. EQ 1 was much better in this regard.
Shame EQ II did not give the same feeling that EQ 1 did.
My gaming blog
EQ2 is a good MMO.
SOE are a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad <deep breath> bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad greedy corporation - almost as bad as EQ2's java-esque performing engine.
i have to disagree.
i'v never seen EQ2detox.com, there is however a WoWdetox.com.
Well if you were to come back and play your ranger now at 90, you'd be able to roll damn near everybody in t9. Rangers/Assassins and Warlock/Wizards are absolutely beasts right now
My only problem with eq2 is that the endgame is boring, wait EQ2 is allabout endgame raiding.
That is why I play on a pvp server. It breaks up the time better, roll out and do some pq raids get some pvp in, WF's, and if you enjoy them or want something else to do you can go hit up BG's. I realize you can do BG's on pve servers, but its not enough by it self.
I agree with the OP. EQ2 is THIS addict's game of choice. The fact that it is down right now is almost soul crushing. Okay, so maybe that's a bit extreme, but....it bums me out something fierce. I just know my pet dragon is roaming around in my house feeling lost and abandoned, and that breaks my heart. He can't even do headstands without me, and I know he misses sneezing when I give him pepper as a joke. /sob

I posted this on the Vanguard forums about Sony. And this is what I had to say about EQ2 :
EQ2 - Is a good game, however I have many gripes with it :
- They never fixed the coding ( I think the bugs, zoning and ability to play on most computers are worst than Vanguard ).
- They release expansions as it's a new game. Most should be just updates.
- They never look back on there old content, and never fix most anything.
- Free to play is just a trick ( this is just my opinion )
- Merge servers. They are afraid to piss off there very small player base.
- " Yes " they have a small player base. In my time spent in EQ2. I often did a count during prime times for all levels and there were not many active players. I did this for all classes, levels, and three of the popular servers. So they are fudging there numbers. I went Wayyyyy out of my way to do a head count, You would have to trust me on that one.
Adding here on the EQ2 forums :
I'll admit I never made it to end game because I found that I was never a fan of the community. I think there very much into clicks. It's understandable that the hardcore player base are standoffish because NEW PLAYERS NEVER STAY AROUND VERY LONG, so why give them the time of day. Questions will be answered, they will let noobs into there guilds but they don't have the time for them.
Another problem with EQ2 that took me years of on and off play to realize is that Zone play is screwed up and never fixed. Here let me explain :
As in every mmo you have level for zone 1-10, 11-20, 21-30 and so on.......What's strange about EQ2 is that when you out do the 11-20 area and you move on to the next zone and now yr level 21 on up to level 25 you would find that you can't move far from the quest hub for that zone or you would get clobbered by the mobs. This makes exploring ridiculously hard. Before you know it your level 30 and ready to move on to the next.
Planing out your attacks and using your class abilities- well forget it........You can shoot an arrow at a single target and the entire forest mobs you......What's with that ?....EQ2 never fixes there mistakes.
Some people call this hard core. I call it a broken game !
Vanguard is a much better game than EQ2. I also hope SOE sells off there entire mmo product line to someone who cares
While I understand everything you said here, and even agree with some of it......the zone and mob pulling "problem" isn't a problem at all if you have enough AAs. I find that most people, because they're never told, don't focus enough on AAs. Your "level" is not more important than your AAs. As a matter of fact, I focus more on AAs with my xp. My lowest level character is a 43 warden with more than double her level in AAs. As a matter of fact, I don't remember how many AAs she has exactly. It might be way more than 80, more like 100 perhaps? And she handles higher zones and multiple pulls EASILY. AAs are that important, but some people neglect them entirely or wait til max level to go back and earn them. To actually level with ease and have FUN.....I don't suggest that. I keep my AAs set at either 60 or 75% and pump them up for turning in collections too, since collections reward AAs so nicely.
Anyway.....I do agree with most of what you said, just not that particular complaint.

I disagree. EQ2 was not engaging or gripping to me at all, except for maybe the player housing.
Whatever floats your boat.
How insightful. You disagreed.
Maybe that's because more people LEAVE WoW and go into "detox." The EQ2 addicts are so hooked that they just stay and stay....they don't WANT "detox." You could also just say WoW players must be quitters then if that site exists. That fits too for this conversation. Frankly....I'd rather not be a quitter. I'll stick with my addictive EQ2 thank you very much.

if EQ2 was that addictive.. there would be far more people playing it.. as it is. ... EQ2 isnt even as good as EQ1.. now there was an addictive game.. it even coined the phrase Evercrack.. .. as it is though.. EQ2 was mostly a disapointment... EQ1 players moved on.. but not to EQ2.. i think you can probably guess where they did move on to though
I agree. It has so much more than the other themeparks out. One of the better crafting systems, huge AA system to play around with after leveling to max, lots of races and levelling paths, raids, scaling down levels to play through low level content, housing...I can go on.
EQ2 is one of those games that I reallly, really want to like because it covers many elements that I feel are important to a successful mmo, but the mind-numbing "wack-a-mole" combat system bores me to tears. To each his/her own though, of course.
In YOUR opinion. Obviously not everyone agrees with YOU. Furthermore...I HATED EQ1. So just because you loved it, doesn't mean everyone will. It goes both ways, ol' chap.

I played the hell out of EQ2 but i prefer Vanguard by a mile,it's more immersive and open than EQ2 ever was.
Better crating
Better world
Not as much content but still tons.
Better classes(my disciple kicks my Bruisers ass)
Diplomacy.
Better Housing where everything is hand made in the open world .From bricks to wallpaper to carpet,it's all player made.
Vast oceans to sail your ships.
Brilliant mounts/flying
Non instanced Dungeons
The list goes on.
If you have 45 days free and have not tried Vanguard then i really suggest you give it a go.

Since we have the free 45 days to play I downloaded EQII again to see how it would run on my new Rig. The game looks great and it runs wonderfully, but I just don't like the clunky feel of the character movement and I've never, ever, liked the Combat Movement Speed.

EQ2 has closed over twice as many servers as it has operating due to declining populations and still has a few that need to be closed for the same reasons. EQ2 was merging servers 1 year after release and has continued to slide ever since. I wouldn't go bragging about the player retention rate in EQ2 against a game that has seen almost nonstop growth during the same exact time period.
I've never heard of wowdetox.com, but I have seen eq2flames.com and well I wouldn't exactly say they represent people who are hooked or even satisfied with thier game or the developers.
Take from it what you will.
What I "take from it" is that there are people who are addicted to and LOVE every game in existence and that there are also people that HATE every game in existence. That's just life. Someone hating my favorite game doesn't invalidate my love for it and vice versa.
