Ok, so I have about mmorpg's installed and can't pick one to stick with. At the moment, I have Atlantica Online, Forsaken World, LOTRO and the Rift Trial. I have a strict policy to only play games with deep crafting. ANd to only play free games. I can barely bring myself to keep playing Rift because I know I won't be able to play it after the trial due to money issues.
So far I like Forsaken World's gameplay. the crafting is great, but could be better if there weren't so many limitations. I don't know who here has played it, but you can only craft a certain amount of items per day. Imagine only being able to make 100 health potions a day. And not only that but you can only fish or harvest materials a certain amount as well. It kinda sucks. Because the questing and instances are fantastic.
Atlantica Online is a great game, and I don't have any complaints except it's a massive grindfest, takes dayd upon days to get your crafting up.
LOTRO was really fun, but there didn't ever seem to be anyone on.
I'm looking for a game with great crafting, and little to no limitations, I like being able to choose a fair amount of professions. I like a good grind if there is an incentive. I also like there to be ways to enhance items that i make. or for there to be items similar but different enough( different stats and stuff). I dont like posting my weapons and armor on the auction house to se 90 of the same thing. It makes it harder to sell my item unless i drop the price significantly, and that's no fun.
Any suggestions would be great.
Oh, and I'm already wanting to try Everquest 2, but can't at the moment because of the intrusion.

I really do hate referring peopel to this game since the "change" but i haven't found another game with DEEP crafting that requires a mind in any other game. Star Wars Galaxies, it's not free and a lot of the crafting professions are pretty pointless these days but there is no comparison in my eyes, the downside is you said you preferred free games and unfortunately SWG isn't.
Not much help i'm afraid but your in the same boat as me when it comes to deep and meaningfull crafting.. screwed.
No, I appreciate the reply. While I may not be able to play a p2p game right now, I may be able to in the future. And I have heard a great deal about SWG so I may check into it. Heck I may even try SW:TOR when it comes out. Maybe that will have decent crafting. I don't get why it is so much to ask for great crafting these days. WoW, RoM, Atlantica, Runescape, all have great crafting. But, WoW isn't free, RoM is unbalanced, Atlantica takes forever, and Runescape is too simple and childish for me. Each game that has great crafting has some other aspect that ruins the experience for me.

Downloading and installing Martial Empires now. Thanks
Um, no offense but WoW doesn't exactly have great crafting. Most of the stuff you make sells for less than the cost of the mats. The crafting is only there for the handful of epic items that will be useful in endgame (until you replace it with something better from a raid) and for the handful of item upgrades you can give yourself that are better than standard enchants available for that particular item slot. Everything from level 1 to one level below cap is largely junk crafted only for the purpose of leveling the crafting skill. Crafting is generally considered a big money-sink done only to get the handful of bonuses you can get only from that specific crafting profession.
There's a lot more that could be said, but there's really no point. Frankly, WoW's crafting pretty much sucks. It's nothing compared to a real crafting system like in Eve or SWG.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Vanguard and EQ2 have good crafting system. I love UO's crafting as well. But they are not F2P.
Shamed to say it, Minecraft/Runescape.
^ this, I solo crafted in both games a lot

A Mystical Land if you can stomach a HUGE grind on the crafting end.
IE A level 8 sword might require 10 bronze pigs, 10 layered pine, 10 decorations,
The pigs are 1 tin and 2 copper pigs which are a 1 copper each refine.
The layered pine is a woodcraft thing that uses an oak and 2 refined pine.
The decorations are made with level 5 insect collecting and a 2nd tier decoction made with cooking.
Said requires a second tier fish, 4 water, and 2 1st tier decoctions which require a 1st tier fish and 3 water each.
So you need to do a ton of mining, fishing, woodcutting, and insect collecting and then use cooking woodcraft and blacksmithing many times to complete it. I advise alts.
