none of that on my server ( PvP-RP)
Rift is currently the FoTM MMORPG (flavor of the year given how few decent games we've had), so a lot of people are playing it simply trying to delude themselves into thinking they're having some fun with it, as they're sick to death of WoW. Rift has way too many servers, but it's fairly populated, and it's far more "trendy" so to speak to be playing Rift now than some older game.
Well I dunno about you but I actually DO have fun with Rift, but I can also admit its just something for me to do until The Old Rpublic.
I have fun at times, but I still think it's inferior to WoW though I'm just sick and tired of WoW atm.
the problem with your flawed logic is that if no one ever said bad things about anything, how would anyone get the whole picture?
to put it in another words, if a couple had an argument but you were only allowed to hear 1 persons version of events that caused the argument, you would obviously be biased in favor of the person you heard from. therefore you need both sides of the story to paint the clear picture.
can't believe it had to be spelled out for you but thats why its actually helpful and necessary for people to see those negative postings. sure things get taken a bit to far but the same can be said for the good side of things when its downright fanboyism
Be the Ultimate Ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today!
I'm tired of all the negative crap in chat too. Rift has one of the worst, immature communities I've ever seen in a game. But I do know there is a general frustration with the MMO genre as a whole. I think a lot of people were hopeful Rift would be new and fun and when it turned out to be the game it did it seems people almost feel betrayed.
Yeah I have that on the EU side as well. Two guys last night, one complained for hours about how the Paladin soul wasn't 'powerful' enough, (i.e. he expected it to be like Wrath WoW retri), so he couldn't kill everyone and bubble on sight. The other kept saying how everything sucked in the game and how he hated it.
I have to say everyone else was pretty calm about it....I....errr...told them where to get off. They didn't like that much :P
I think the bigger question is, why are you still in general chat? First thing I turn off when I get into a game.
Well that is obviously the badest thing you could ever do in a MMO. That would be the same thing as walking around in RL with your hands on your ears. The chat and so is the community a big part of any MMO.
I left quite a lot of Games (Age of Conan for example) due to the worse community. I simply can't stand being insulted for ganking or hearing complains all the time. I even tried deleting the General-Tab in the Chat etc - but that didn't help me. Something was clearly missing.
The interaction, the positive interaction with other players in a MMO is crucial for it's success!
@ TE: I would try and symbol a lead-figure in the Chat. Make clear statements. Make those flamers aware of what idiotic things they complain about. And most important DO NOT insult them (which will lead to more insults and your credibility is gone). You will sooner or later encounter other People in your chat with the same oppinion as yours. That's how community-work works against flamers and constant harassment.

Wait a few months to weed out those who don't really like Rift but must play an MMO who are sick of WoW and hold WoW as the king of MMOs. Once SWTOR and GW2 hits the market the player base will decrease and those left are those who actually enjoy Rift and will be the real community.
Just like AoC, sure early on there was lots of AoC bashing but when I played it, after it was established and bugs worked out, there was not much bashing on AoC. The only time I really ignored gobal was when religion or politics started to heat up.
I usually try to ignore general chat (its full of spammers anyways) but even our guild chat becomes cluttered with stuff like this (500+ members, 50-100+ active at all times on chat) so sometimes the debates get heated.. Luckily a lot of people from my guild play games OTHER then WoW (our guilds big in WoW, EvE, and was in AION/AoC/ect) so the conversations don't get too stale.. And usually it's not people complaining of Rift it's just people compareing.
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
The players create the community. Each chat channel is a different neighborhood of that community. I'm sure there are some neighborhoods in real life that you won't walk into - let him choose his own streets to frequent.
Haha...
I see this on my server and just laugh. I like Rift. Great game, similar to others, but what isnt these days...

Deluded!
How on earth do you know that? I'd love to know how you come to that conclusion, as a player of MMO's I know when I'm having fun, I pay for another month, if not I'm playing something else.
I've never been called deluded before for playing a different game to WoW though.
Thank you for all of your replys
I have to aggree with you. It was semi-fun, but once you get to end game. There is nothing inovative or fun offered. I'm not a PVPer so signing up for warfronts usually just puts me in the mood to beat on the freestanding bag. PvP isn't really my thing. So I don't find myself inclined to grind the elite pvp gear that way. Besides the mechanics of warfronts are rather lame. The carrier (of the flag/tooth) can get an infanite number of buffs... which means taking them down is about as much fun as cutting concrete with dental floss. If you do the random group... the other players rarely figure out you should debuff and kill the other sides healers, etc. Further, the mechanics seem to line up the premade pvp teams against the random pve'ers (who have madator guild quests that require them to pvp). The T1/T2/Raiding... I never did it in wow. I haven't really 'used' the new lfg tool... I've clicked it... and thought now what, so I reduce the rift window and ultimately start doing something for work. I'm not rage quiting. I'm just not interested in putting time in those areas of the game and hence I'll find something else to do. I'm looking for something with a little depth to it, but something that isn't like studying for the MCPD or PMP in terms of learning how to play it.
If a friend of mine was cpmplaining about her girlfriend nad how unsatisfied he is with her(, perhaps compared to his former wife). I would not need to hear his girlfriend's side of the story. My advice would be to him to think over the relation with the girlfriend... perhaps a few other things aswell.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
I'm on Cloubourne EU and I never really get anything like that, tbh its usually pretty lax. Although I do pay more atttention to actually playing the game and having fun then looking at general chat all the time, I do get what your saying however, if I saw things like this popping up regularly I might start to get a bit frustrated, but I don't so I can't really comment further.
i decided to start playing recently and the chat on my server is the most quiet i've ever seen. there basically is no chat except for a few lfg posts. i would gladly welcome a few asshat trolls complaining just to have something interesting/humorous to read.
the struggle to free myself from restraints becomes my very shackles
Tbh knew this would come. The forums and the chat in WoW was filled with stuffs like "WOW SUCKS CANT WAIT FOR RIFT" or "Rift will totally kill WoW man."
So, they tried it out, well it went as good as Warhammer online etc, and the dimwitted kids went all "Rift sucks, WoW is better.." sigh, im really tired of this attitude. Im so gonna play GW 2 later, but im kind of afraid of every "GW2 will kill WoW" but i know for sure it will give WoW a hard time, eh maybe.
Im playing order and chaos online, and theres also some dimwits saying WoW is better. Lol, its on an early stage and its on a phone. Why dont they whine to Blizzard to make a mmo on the smartphones instead and see how it goes?
