By looking at the vids and the gameplay, is the game comparable to GTA?
I really haven't looked into this style of MMO since Auto Assault (however in AA, you were mostly in the car than out).
And are there any other good fan weblinks to this game?

APB is sort of a GTA online as you said but more limited.... bad thing is you only shoot people... no melee punches, grabs or kicks..... the only melee engagements you see its by pressing one button (F) near an npc and you see how your character kicks the npc and steal from it (you actually dont do that, your toon acts by itself there) which sux balls.... if u play it, be ready for a third person shooter experience plus car derby and GTA type of missions, thats all
It is nowhere near that smooth, indepth or detailed.
If you go in expecting anything remotely close to GTA, you're going to be sorely dissapointed.
Its in instanced, shallow shooter with sloppy gun and driving mechanics. Also, limited missions that get repitative within 20 mins of playing and systems that are rife with imbalances and bugs.
I suggest you just walk away and forget this game even exists.
Really its a bummer its not a better game, it lots of avenues it could go. Though I will say a GTA MMO sounds intriguing as well.
I pre-ordered the game and even bought the lifetime sub. I even had faith that they could fix the graphical glitches and laggy driving. When all of this backfired a few weeks later and they closed their doors I had hope. When the game was bought and development was to be continued I became a supporter. Even though it took me 6 months to become part of a beta I was already a lifetime subscriber to, I was optimistic. The game is exactly as much of a hot mess now as it was on launch day. I have no idea what these developers have been doing as I can see little/no evidience of any improvements.
Clearly my faith was misplaced and I need to face this evidence that I am not a smart man.
I fear the current predicament is that of someone borrowing anothers coursework with promises of mere inspiration to work on his own, the result is that of collosal laziness and hoping to pass the largely unedited whole as his own. Getting ones hands on anothers largely finished product is like that, takes willpower to go the other way.

Thanks for the heads up.
I guess videos can still be misleading to the actual gameplay itself.
I managed to get some greats deals on steam a week ago for GTA, thats why my curiousity sparked an interest in APB.
Thanks again everyone.
What? RTW never offered a lifetime sub. APB was developed to be a mix between GTA and Counterstrike, with the gameplay heavily influenced by the latter. The creator of the game, Dave Jones, drew heavily upon the Counterstrike model when he created APB since CS was so successful without any social elements within the game. There is no real story as you progress through the contacts, so if you're looking for the story-driven GTA game, APB is definitely NOT it.
spot on
The Deathstar destroyed planets...Lucas Arts destroyed Galaxies

Played:
SWG | EVE | WOW | VG | LOTRO | WAR | FML | STO | APB | AOC | MORTAL | WOT | BP | SW:TOR
I would liken it more to Crackdown Online, only minus the superhuman aspects that made Crackdown fun.
Released today counterstrike would have been complete garbage, thats some proper backwards thinking right there.

Wrong!
APB is far from GTA,
Choices, Criminal or Enforcer.
-Criminals get to wreck shit up
-Enforcers can Taze and arrest criminals.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gun customization.
-Pick a gun, any gun.
-Do missions for upgrades and attach them to your weapon of choice for increased damage, aim, rate of fire, etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Missions make you money.
- Pop a glock and make a brain slushie, you get paid.
- Or just do what your mission says and you get paid. Simple.... or is it. x)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vehicular Manslaughter
-Pick a car,
-Design it
-pick the colors and rebuild the design or unlock more fabulous vroom vrooms.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Charcater Customization
-It's serious buisness.
-you can create and design your OWN LOOK, from facial features, grins, eyebrow size, facial reconstruction, mouthsize, ear size, body height, facial enhancement, boob size, abs, shoulder length, arm length, and this goes on.
- But Clothes, and Design your own style, i shit you not. 100% awesomeness.
APB is far from GTA, nuff said.
Compared to GTA ?
Custumization and multiplayer is better, everything else is worse. About sums it up tbh.

It's a fun game TBH. But it's much more narrow than GTA, game is basically limited to third-person firefights with some randon tidbits thrown in: driving, customizing your look, customizing your killsong, customizing your car. Sure, it's a blast to level up in but when playing, one gets the definite feeling a lot of the playerbase is made of aimbotters and wallhackers despite all the proclamations against it.
Edit: I would definitely NOT consider this an MMORPG. It's more akin to CrimeCraft in that respect. You will not see any roleplaying going on whatsoever. It's a third person online shooter, nothing more. Although I think it could be much more, but the devs and fanbois of the game would rather preserve it in its current state.
so is the reboot in ANY WAY better then the orginal...wich died in like 3 months or something? or is it still the same game with just less bugs and f2p? (if it was f2p)
I see very little to no difference with the game now. Honestly, I was hoping GF would go balls out with this "reboot" but sadly, very little has changed.
Goosie,
I'm sorry but RTW did offer a lifetime sub and several of us(including journalists) were stupid enough to purchase it for $199
Actually its more like Saints Row 2 online IMHO. Lots of customization and more options for Random crime than GTA series (although GTA4 added some it still has nowhere near as much as SR2).
Personally I hope MMORPG do a piece on it once it enteres open beta as the game fits with the other games covered on this site a lot better now than it did under RTW.
