I have to agree with people hear EVE is the only thing you got right. Everything else I would put in a different order or not have on the list. SWG would NEVER be in the top 5.
Can somebody tell me what made AO so special and awesome that it should be put on the number 2 spot? I'm talking about distinctive features and gameplay elements and such. I know it was sort of cyberpunk scifi on distant worlds, but that's as far as it goes.
AO has one of the most elaborate character customization systems, it is huge, and has every feature I can think of inc. housing, player controlled areas.

Secretly and/or subconsciencely, this list topic was created so that DCUO could be mentioned and praised, trying to convince more people to play the game in an effor to boost the server populations so that the original review of the game doesn't look so silly and out of touch with how the general population found the game.
Note the difference in the commentary in DCUO relative to any other commentary on the list. The DCUO commentary ends with "this is a game you should give a try post haste." Did you say anything like that about the other games on the list? No. You comment on the good parts of diffferent games, but on no other game did you directly tell people to go try it except for DCUO.
The sad part is, you probably didn't notice it until I pointed it out, and you are probably thinking of a 100 different reasons why this can't possibly be the case or how I must be coming up with crazy conspiricy ideas. Yep.
OK Damnit! Too all of you folks that say STAR WARS isnt Sci Fi!!! I call BULLSHIT! in its stinkyist softest and moistest form. What ever logic you can use to say Blasters and star destroyers have anything to do with swords and sorcery can be used to say GONE WITH THE WIND is part of the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy.
Of course it is SCI FI, I just looked the books up on Amazon and they are listed as SCI FI. On IMDB the folms are listed as SCI FI.
"It’s not always the most exciting thing to experience (is there anyone who actually enjoys mining?) "
Strangely enough, that's what I enjoyed most in Eve.
Same exactly here and the market.
Mining and skills like that and Woodcutting and all those crafting type skills, just annoy me. Everytime you are intensly leveling up someone comes up and throws in your face that it took them twice as short time to reach a higher level than you.

That's the beauty of Eve; how long someone else took to get to skill X doesn't really matter, since skills are learned in real time.

I loved the economy in Eve, as it was set up initially so that there was a counter-balance to the players in the form of NPCs selling stuff for generally reasonable prices. I found that this put a damper on the usual player run economy, which tends to see prices continuously spiral upwards. I wish more MMOs would use a similar system.
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan

The truth is AO is #2 if you exclude ship games and comic book games. I consider comic games Fantasy, just a different form of fantasy. I also don't like how a SHIP game can be considered a core RPG, what role can a ship play? That is for a CHARACTER, not a SHIP.
I feel Fallen Earth is rather weak (played it in Beta). The whole sanbox thing is nice, just like the class-less system really gives it a nitch; however, long runs, too much open space, feeling like it's not much of an MMO, PvP gets nothing unique with class - less system. It truly makes me wonder, what is the true #1?
The only knock on AO is the graphics. I feel ship games get knocked because you aren't truly RP'ing to me...I feel if you can't even be a person, you aren't truly roleplaying.
The bottom line - As an AO player it's easy to say we are #1 in my mind, but my argument is that story line, genuine Scifi characters, a twinking system, and great gameplay makes AO a consensus #1 all-around Scifi, the only knock is graphics.
I'd also like to add Neocron is not on that list, and I think it is due to how much of a flop it is today.
40 people online? Check
Outdated graphics? Check
Too much ganking (i.e. no safe zones)? Check
I played Neocron for two years, but put it up versus Anarchy Online and it just falls off. The combat is a bit better, just like the PvP. But AO is so much more well-rounded, has better content, has a REAL end-game, and has more nitches (twinking, player cities, useful expansions).
I would concede that Eve is a #1 just due to it's population, I just don't think a majority of the MMO community is ship based. Just like comics are more like fantasy, and if it weren't for the better graphics in Fallen Earth, AO that was created in 2002 is the best Scifi...STILL!
HUGE BUMP FOR A NEXT GEN AO/NEOCRON. Huxley looks like fail.

EVE is in the proper place at the top, CoH is pretty well placed... but this isn't a list without SWG.
If I were doing it, it would probably go:
1) Eve
2) AO
3) SWG
4) CoH
5) Fallen Earth
I wouldn't have listed 5 more. The rest are awful. DCUO and Champions Online flopped harder than Aion, and that's saying something.
AO has one of the most elaborate character customization systems, it is huge, and has every feature I can think of inc. housing, player controlled areas.

1. Yep, Eve's the top on this list.
2. Yep, SWG should be on here.
3. Yep, CoH was a WidowMaker.
4. Yep, everything else is up for debate.
dunno about the rest ... but Eve fits very nicely on top of that list
Kind of funny, you can't seem to express your personal opinion without getting lambasted on this forum.
Thats just your opinion, Shut up! Arrrgh!! lol Only joking, I just couldn't resist !
I'm not that keen on any of the games in the list. I have to admit, I'm more of a fantasy lover. SWTOR may change that mindset however...
I agree with EVE (the best MMO ever, till now) and CoH (and, a little, with PotBS) but... no Global Agenda?
Ok, was a "not so good and a little boring" one, but nowis a little different: it's fun!
My blog about (no more)MMORPG Addicted - a bog about videogames, cinema, politics and other things (in Italian)
I would have put Anarchy Online somewhere in that list.

What about Battlestar Galactica Online? Nobody likes it? I just started to play it and I enjoy it. I alos loved the monie series, of course

champions online? who wrote this list, a 12 year old?
At least sity of heroes has its place. but giving the other judgements, thats not saying much.
