Gears Of War 3 Makes 360 Pre-Order History

It turns out a lot of people currently have the intent of buying Gears of War 3, according to some impressive pre-order numbers. Microsoft and Epic announced today that the game has topped one million pre-orders across the globe, which makes Gears of War 3 the quickest pre-ordered Xbox 360-only title.
Major Nelson has some other interesting tidbits to share regarding the game’s multiplayer beta:
1.29 million players participated in over 11 million beta multiplayer matches
927 million kills (23 million by chainsaw)
Almost 23 billion bullets discharged
249 years worth of matches played

Looks promissing than! Can't wait to try it in release.
I preordered it mostly for the single player. MP is fun, but the community around it is...well...let's just use the term 'lacking maturity'. I barely played in the MP beta because of it.
Good to see the franchise is doing well, at any rate. It really is a fun series of games. A much better exclusive than Halo, IMO.
I played a fair amount of the Multiplayer Beta. Haven't pre ordered but will likely buy it eventually. The multiplayer hasn't changed much. You still have a bunch of jerks taunting other players, and so on. The combat itself hasn't really been upgraded much from GoW2 in terms of multiplayer.... some new weapons, and I like the deathmatch game type better this time around.
Controls are a little clunky. It makes for a great cinematic style of action when things work properly, but when they don't work properly you can cost your team a match. This game is the epitome of one hit kills. I had a fun and also frustrating time getting my character to level 23 (levels are pretty much meaningless except for the unlocks).
If you liked the other GoW games, then its likely you'll like this one too.

Most of the people would also "steal" a downed enemy from you as well. The good thing if u ask me, is that many people would still play Gears 2 for its multiplayer
I liked GW1...the first time through and then it got old and stale, and GW2 was pretty much the same game...either way I could care less about GW3.
But looks at the wording "fastest growing preorders at 1 mil"
when halo: reach launched it had close to 5 million preorders, so GW3 has a ways to go...

Haven't played any of them, won't play this one.
Interesting, I thought the various Halo entries would have been reigning champions on a much higher number of pre-orders.
I have GOW1 on PC its quite good, it doesnt even really suffer from consoleitis and the PC conversion had some nice extra levels & things and in its day it was pretty good. I never actually finished it and re-installed it about 3 months ago with the intent of doing so but ive barely crasked the first mission past the tutorial lol.
This and the halo series were never enough to get me to buy an Xbox 360 (thought to be fair I own Halo 1 & 2 on PC and on original xbox) specifically for them. Actually the only game that ever managed to convince me to buy a specific system was Mortal kombat on Megadrive (Sega Genesis for North Americans) FINISH HIM !
