Point is, we know a lot about the first 6 professions (skills, traits, general playstyle etc) but we won't know much of anything about the Engineer until a new demo is available at a convention. So I will just limit myself to the first six.
well i know its a pretty crappy of me to assume how good a class is before i play it, but i just watched the engineering skill clips, and i was definately meh.
Honestly like all the profs. Warrior and Ele are only the least of my preferences because they are seemingly the most classic warrior-mage of the lot to me but are nonetheless chocka-block full of skills (60) & (52') - so tons of variety.
Ranger is my favorite and Engi my number 2.
As for the theme of the engi: It adds the gw+250yrs to gw2 nicely to the class mix. : )
So far I'd have to say the Guardian is my favorite. I like how you can fill almost your entire skillset with control and support abilities. I think I'm going to like the idea of pretty much always having another trick in my back pocket.
I'd have to say my least favorite is the thief. Maybe their abilities haven't been fully revealed yet, but it seems like there is a lot of control but no support. Even the ranger and necromancer have a few condition removing, buffing or regeneration effects.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it."-Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
(I'm not a very... Faithy person, sorry. It's just not my thing. The Guardians are powered by Faith, with their divine this and holy that, so it's just not my bag, and thus the least appealing prospect.)
...all these i like equally, and thats how id roll them. i may not roll thief, elementalist or warrior at all. im traumatized from WoW's "pure classes" being favored since the game's release (warrior, mage, rogue anyone) while the rest gets treated like crap. maybe i'll be able to move past these horrible memories at some point.
Hmmm....I like Elementalist and Necromancer the most.
Least would be Engineer and Warrior.
I'll end up playing all of them but that's where I would rank them. Engineer just brings back bad memories of using a turret based class in Warhammer Online. Not a fan of stationary pets. Of course, actual use in gameplay might be extremely different and I could change my mind. game needs to come out nowa!!! lol.
Favourite - Thief ... I like being that quick S.O.B that will kill you before you've even realized what's going on.
Least favourite - Warrior ... Too generic and simple and Arenanet have said it themselves that it'll be one of the easiest professions to play.
As for the Engineer that spawned the creation of this thread... I find it more & more interesting as I learn more about it and it definitely looks like one of those professions that only a select few would truly master. It's a shame that a lot of the QQ'ing, I've seen about the Engineer, is due to it bringing more tech to this supposedly fantasy game.
I like playing classes that can fill a wide range of purposes, and the engineer seems to do that in a very interesting way. I think the elementalist would be next on the list as far as versatility, but ultimately, the engineer seems more akin to my playstyle.
As for the warrior, I don't find anything particularly exciting about this iteration of the warrior. If you've seen one of them you've pretty much seen them all. Weapon versatility aside he just looks very bland to me.
1. Guardian. I am naturally drawn to the healer hybrid type, and the holy thing is awesome.
2. Elementalist. Typical mage, kinda fun at times. I have always played mages, so it's a given.
3. Warrior. Beat stuff up, enough said.
4. Engineer. I like the whole battle alchemist/turret thing. I can't wait to find more about it.
5. Necromancer. They have great mechanics and seem like a brutal bit of fun but the whole dark thing is not my bag.
6. Thief. I don't really dig the name, I'd rather it be a rogue or assassin. The whole profession concept is weird to me; I am also not into stealth characters.
7. Rangers. I played one in GW1 and I don't feel one ounce of interest in it anymore.
My likely toons upon release:
Guardian (First and Main), Mesmer (if it is there), Engineer, and Elementalist.
Favorites: Necro (probably Norn) and Ranger (probably Sylvari)
Least: Warrior and maybe Thief. Warrior because it's kind of same old, same old. Thief maybe only because it seems like it might have a fairly steep learning curve to be great at it. It's not that I wouldn't play either of those professions, just that they'd be last on my list.
Although I have to say the idea of an Asuran Warrior and a Charr Thief cracks me up!!!
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
I had high hopes for a class like this, while I'm not too thrilled about giving up a melee weapon for a ranged-only proffession, the option to have a shield AND grenades? And was that a spell reflect with the shield in the skill video? Yeah, that pretty much nailed it for me. What's that? I can be a healing engineer also? Para-medic? Healin' turret thing? Gravey.
Engi seems to be an incredibly defensive class, maybe the most, in which I mean it's good at holding ground the best. Guardian seems to be good at holding the ground, aswell as pushing their team forward. I'm not usually a defensive-only kinda guy since sometimes my team needs a little prod to do things properly, but I feel that engi will provide moving cover, in a sense, to give my team insentive to keep moving forward.
I'm very interested to see how Thief vs. Engi fights play out, as I see them as opposite sides of the spectrum in terms of how they pvp.
On top of all that they seem to be a toy box filled with a metric-shit-ton of utility, maybe even a specialty of theirs, and that's deffinitely what i'd like to bring to the table when choosing a class for my guild/friends. Besides, jump shot looks sick.
Least Favorite - Ranger
Rangers never seemed to fit into team play as much in terms of mechanics in other games, in GW1 they had rupts, but that's all gone now in GW2.
I don't know what rangers will bring to the table other than pressure. They boast being a hybrid class that can do it all, but it still seems ranged-based where you can only excel by staying at ranged as much as possible.
I don't see them as "Ranger - fights from range" I see them as more of a "Ranger - Watchs over a range, area, etc". So i think they should still be able to excel in melee over range in all ways if they choose to. I can't fully judge them yet but that's how they seem.
I'm also not too into pets, so that puts a damper on it, having to rely on one all the time to be competitive, just ain't for me I guess.
Comments
Won't know until I actually play them.

well of course i was just judging them based on there skill clips and the info.
I always loved the ranger in GW1, but I don't know if I like the skills. I'd have to say warrior at the moment. As to least favorite, I'm not sure.

Least favourite is engineer becasue its little too extreme, don't you think?
but once I get used to have it in game, it will be okay I guess...

I don't have any particular problems with any of the proffesions.
Guess I'll just have to wait till the game comes out and try it out for myself

Favourite - necro
least favourite - thief/engineer, they dont fill on this kind of game nature (pistols or rifles, i dont like the idea)
Well, I've decided my favorite is an Engineer.
Least favorite, Warrior.
I like playing classes that can fill a wide range of purposes, and the engineer seems to do that in a very interesting way. I think the elementalist would be next on the list as far as versatility, but ultimately, the engineer seems more akin to my playstyle.

Necromancer so far. Least favorite is Ranger.
Definately love the necro because death shroud seems really cool. I just hope there are no balancing issues related to it.
Least favorite is Ranger unless it turns out you don't have to use a pet (not a big pet fan).
I will have to wait for the mesmer to be revealed before I make a call on it as a proffesion.
Favorite profession(s): Elementalist / Thief
Least favorite profession(s): Ranger/Guardian
Favorite: Necro as it is something that I've never played before
Least: Thief because the whole pistol sword swashbuckler thing just doesn't appeal to me
As far as the profession that tickles my imagination the most?
The Theif.
Least fave? The Guardian.
The newly revealed engeineer looks amazing. So much more fun and diverse than I would expect from an MMO class.
Favourite: Necro
Least favourite: Warrior
I will rank them from most to least favourite.
1. Guardian. I am naturally drawn to the healer hybrid type, and the holy thing is awesome.

5 - The others
