The Star Wars: The Old Republic team have released another article in its series of Studio Insider features, this time focusing on the combat audio, and how it is created. Scott Morton, audio designer, walks us through it.
Hi, my name’s Scott Morton, and I’m one of the audio designers who helps create the soundscape for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. I spend half my time coming up with new sounds for different parts of the game (explosions!), and the other half conceptualizing technical approaches for getting sound and music playing in the game engine. The art of sound design can sometimes be a little mysterious; audio is always a supporting element and tends to be secondary to visuals in the player’s mind. Yet audio’s importance in helping craft the aesthetic feel of a player’s actions and experiences shouldn’t be underestimated.

Pretty neat to read about this often overlooked aspect. Especially the layering of sounds to make proper skill effects.
My brand new bloggity blog.
I particularly like the brute force sound of the rail shot. Star Wars games always seem to have amazing audio. Glad to see this one isn't any different. Now if we could just find out about the other 90% of this fracking game and I might be happy.

E3 is comming up so i doubt we will hear anything new about the game until then.
They have updates every Friday, Between 8 and 3 (not sure when becuase I'm at school)
I'm talking about important stuff we don't already know about the game. Not every Friday updates has news about important things like a release date/New race/new planet and stuff like that.
We will possible get a timeline update next friday and something about E3 the friday after that.
