Vanguard uses a 9 year old engine, Unreal Engine 2 I believe. While ArcheAge uses CryEngine 3, which was released late 2009.
Maybe you should look closer, or buy a pair of glasses.

No it dosent to me, not in technical quality or style, though thats not putting VG down at all. It's environments are still stunning and stand alongside the newest releases more theen well imo.
The characters models are VG's weakest spot though, so at least your comparing AA to the right part of that game

that is not cryengine 3 lol and if it is then archeage is a fail already cause those guys are using about a 1/3 of what cry3 can do.
Play vanguard then watch that video the scrolling combat text is an exact match as far as look and how it arcs. The enviroments looks like they were done with an old engine.

I'd say this post is fail, first they are using Cryengine 3 which they recently upgraded from Cry2. Second, you can't expect full blown crysis level graphics in a game of this scale, in full fidelity it looks great. They however, will have to undercut some of what cry3 can do in order to keep performance under control.

Sure, I guess you are right afterall. You sound very convincing. My apologies, dear Sir. Your skill with knowing which game engine is used by only using you eyes are extraordinary to say the least. You should call Jake Song and tell him that he is indeed using the wrong engine than the one he bought the rights for.
The environments sure doesn't look impressive in ArcheAge at all, it could easily be compared with Vanguard. In some cases Vanguard does indeed look a lot better. As an example, take these two screens. Vanguard definately does have the upperhand.
I'm interested in Archeage, but this video was very underwhelming to me. Not just the combat in general, but the mobs too, didn't seem particularly interesting.
Its just a small snapshot though, so things may get better, but so far, all of the good things I've seen and heard about are being counterbalanced right now. I leave the thread unimpressed.

Are you trolling? Acheage looks way better and I don't even like the game
Looks good, to bad it doesn't have a more action oriented combat.
Ya just what this industry needs, another over the top street fighter meets crouching tiger meets a 4th of July fireworks finale. There are already more than enough over the top, big number, cheezy freemo style kiddie console combat style games for you to choose from, have at it,
I don't know why they even showed these, I'm kinda indifferent about them, those are skills alright.
I guess this game shows more potential than anything else coming out, but still, it seems too little.
Sounds like you can be a farmer which is pretty cool. And throwing ropes to climb, or making your own bridges.
What I want to see happen is people making towns and actually inhabiting them. In other games like SWG it was cool that people can make towns and stuff, but most of the time there was no one in them! Kinda lame.
It would be kinda cool if people could have their own monster farms, where they could skill up/level up but wouldn't get any loot. Like you could duel monster slaves. This could be a town attraction. I just hate seeing those ghost towns.
There will be plenty of farmers in this game, unfortunatly not the type you refer to here
When people say they want more action style combat what do you mean? Do you mean you want a targeting function similiar to TERA promises to have? Or do you mean you wish you would have to plug in a controller and have the combat like god of war with combos and such? Or do you wish it was more like Elder scrolls with the blocking, more control over melee techniques, lots of strafing, having to switch between casting and melee? Or does it simply mean you don't like tab targeting systems?
What exactly do you mean? Saying "I wish combat was more action oriented" doesn't really explain much. Because targeting a mob, engaging in auto-attack, and then strategically choosing which moves to use and when to get the best results are in fact actions.

We'll have to see how they handle the bot/farmers. Keep in mind Jake was working for or with NC for Aion so he might have knowledge as to how they solved it. I hope XLGames is proactive about it though because it makes a quality game look bad.
I was reminded the problem was in all MMOs when I did the trial for rift.

Have to say that looks dissapointing which is a shame have a great deal of intrest in this title.
Hopefully things will look better with time.

Not trying to troll here...Is it just me or is it so?
It's just like looking at Aion, that counts for Tera and Archeage...
