Sony Breached again?

BeezerbeezBeezerbeez Member UncommonPosts: 302

Not sure if there is already a topic on this but it appears Sony has been hacked a second time.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/gaming.gadgets/05/24/sony.security.breach/index.html?hpt=T2

Seems like it was only 8500 accounts this time and no credit card info.

Just to add fuel to the discussion.  I also found this link claiming Sony is expecting huge losses this year.

Seems like this story just won't go away.

1: PSN hacked, Sony lost 77 million users info

2: SOE hacked, Sony lost 24,6 million users info, and 12 700 credit card info and 10 700 direct debit records

3: So-net hacked, 200 accounts and 90 e-mail accounts compromised. Apparently Sony's servers didn't have any security mechanism to prevent the hacker from sending 10 000 login attems from one IP. Source: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9216899/Sony_hit_again_with_two_hacks

4: One of Sony's web servers got hijacked and had pishing site for a while. Source: http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00002160.html

5: Now Sony lost 8 500 user names and passwords.

Did I manage to list all the hacks?

I'm pretty sure that's the list ---so far--.  I don't play SOE games anymore, but this is disturbing to say the least.

It's the biggest train wreck I've seen so far in MMORPG-land.  I'm still hoping they pull it together.

SOE and Sony just did not have any failsafes in place.  Take Xbox Live for exapmle.  Microsoft is so expansive and has so much money that they probably have numerous version of Live ready to launch incase someone does manage to hack the current Live.  If they have not had to use it already.  Sony just wasn't prepared.  No hate still a great company.

Couldnt happen to a nicer company...so many games they have turned around and made flourish, so many already flourishing game they have nourished and tended to...and always sticking with their games though the rough patches.  So many wrongs to their customers righted....SOE "the noble" company.

    /s

all this was probably some pissed off SWG fans realizing their 5 year plan to destory the company that destroyed their game.

not sure theres a game company that has pissed off more of its customers...

It's far more likely it was one of the many hacker circles they caught the ire of by going after the PS3 jailbreak, the timing makes sense.

If it was pissed off SWG fans, it would have happened years ago.

This attack wasn't SOE or other big SONY areas like PSN or SOE, this was a third party server host who got broken into and 8500 account information were stolen.

This happened in GREECE Sony Music, so really who cares about this one it didn't affect the current security which was implemented after the first hacks on SOE or PSN so yeah this isn't really something anyone should care about unless your a Greek who had music account on a SONY Music Greece web server.

This title of the thread kinda almost misleading, breached again, I think not.

Unless Sony has a combined global network for all its sub-companies then it really is not.

    Sony wasn't hosting the site.

No it's not. The site was not hosted by them and it is a separate branch from SOE PSN. SONY is the corporation and has different branches of products. This has nothing to do with the last hack of SOE PSN, therefore your argument is invalid.

I almost loled when I read the title...then to find out its just a third-party server in greece somewhere and only like 8k accounts were taken was kind of dissapointing.

This is pretty sad. I enjoyed EQ2, but all of these issues would make me worry about the game again.

The title isn't meant to be misleading as it is posed a a question and not a statment.  Also, the news article I pulled it from used the same verbiage. The point I was looking at wasn't if it impacts the security of gamers but the future of Sony overall.  Unfortunately, I think it will.  Personally, I hope they can get back up to flying altitude and stay out of the tree branches.

Granted everyday thousands of sites get hacked or attempted hacked, but are rarely reported to media outlets unless service is lost or data is stolen. So I don't see this hurting them much any, as other major sites get hacked daily for numerous things but rarely they get data stolen because of so much security. And again this was a third party server host so it is on them not Sony this time.

Hmm... it seems someone... or some people... have penetrated Sony again.

    It's defenses, that is.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Haha, I can't help but to think this was some wanna be hacker breaking in after the recent huge PSN/SOE fiasco. Looks like he managed to grab some stuff. Really I think he was only after the fact that it was related to Sony somehow, so the media can once again report that Sony was hacked yet again.

  • TeknoBugTeknoBug Member UncommonPosts: 2,156

Their Sony-Ericsson (smartphone department) servers has been hacked, oh when will it end with Sony... lol

The sites, which were hosted by a third party, will be relaunched after a security review, the company said.

Good job on selective reading. Next time, read past the first sentence.

It was a third party that didnt have the security.
