I understand why ppl would want an original IP. But I like existing IPs that are strong and interesting on many levels like Star wars and Warhammer both of which happen to be my favorite MMOs I think (SWG and WAR). Well used to be =P Games like WoW (I didnt play anything warcraft before WoW) and Rift are just boring to me storywise. But having a strong IP is no guarantee for succes ofc as we've seen many times.
Firefly is an awesome tv show. But as a MMORPG setting, it would be very bland.
I always dreamed of a Forgotten Realms MMO. Of course a Planescape MMO would be even better, because you can travel to any D&D setting, including FR, from the planescape. Still, FR is extremely large already, and includes pretty much every fantasy environment thinkable of.
So one could start with the "core FR" and keep building on that, until later it get expanded to the Planescape setting.
Yeah, I know. Fat chance. For all this content, you would want a company like Bioware with their awesome skill at storywriting. And you would want to own D&D yourself so you're actually able to give the writers all the freedom they want.
I would like to see Assassins Creed Online, Mass Effect Online, Jade Empire Online, Grand Theft Auto Online (which should not be anything like the awful APB), and SWG2 without SOE at the helm.
Honestly, all of them would be neat to see. However, I voted for cyberpunk.
Actually, Palladium's Rift pen and paper would make an excellent mmo as well. You have fantasy, cyberpunk, and horror all rolled into one nice package. I'd personally would love to be running around in Glitter Boy power armor all over the wastes A Shadowrun like universe would be neat too. Again, lots of blending of genres.
I'm actually a little surprised we haven't seen a cyberpunk mmo yet. There are so many endless possibilties, and well, fantasy can get to be a bit bland after awhile.
Naruto Shippudden is the best IP imo. 4 factions of ninja ready fight for Ultimate Power. Over the top combat animation of martial arts with so many different classes to choose from. Theres so many content you can produce with it.
Seriously; that just HAS to be one of the greatest potential MMO's. And with that, and all it's war, "Middle Earth" could actually feel mature & real and quite unlike the childish "fluff & all happy" like LOTRO is.
With as good as Anarcy Online eventually got i think a Cyberpuck MMO would be badass !!!
was a great PnP game and think it would translate over to MMO style fairly easy and could pretty much do anything they wanted to with story. Would be a big fan of this ...
Depending the the Age they used Forgotten Realms could be the most popular MMO every made if they did it right. i dont think there is any other DnD world with so much time put into it ( maybe Dragonlance ). I would love to see this game though would be awesome to play the Drizzit Saga somthing like 16 books now ...
Honor, Valor, Truth are in the heart of the true and the one.
I'd say there is no "Best IP" for an MMORPG. I'd say that it's more of what the developers can actually do as far as gameplay and how they take advantage of what the IP is about. Also for me, how much they respect a particularly well known and loved IP is important.
Star Wars and Star Trek are two of the most widely known, powerful IPs out there. Rich, rich background and settings to choose from. Yet they've been a**-raped repeatedly with gaming in general, and not just in MMORPGs.

Been awhile since there was any info on it though...Who knows what the status is.

My favorite would-like-to-see IP is Dune.
I was going to mention Dune, with the different houses to allie yourself with and the spice element it would make a great game.
Obviously it would have to be a "sandbox" world.
I know, I'm sorry.
I lol'ed

dragon age origins online would be cool :P

There is only one IMHO "Might & Magic" Not heroes of Might & Magic .. 2nd would be Elder Scrolls

Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language
"Cowboys and Indians"
Shadowrun
D&D: Spelljammer
Bladerunner MMO
As long as it has nothing to do with Dark Messiah. Bring back the old days of M&M VII.
Pokemon, Harry Potter, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Zelda could all work, given that they're done in a non-kiddy way.
Cyberpunk 2020
No magic & no elves. Unless they are a part of a poser gang (people styled to look the same)
Melee weapons & Firearms
Hvy. Weapons & Large vehicles
Style
Cybernetics & Implants
Drugs
Vehicles, motorcycles, cars, AV's
Firefights in urban & rural areas
Netrunning & hacking
I imagine that the streets could be a persistent world, and rooms in buildings could be semi-persistent instances.
Mechwarrior!
Mechwarrior!
Mechwarrior!
(typed three times for awesomeness)
O_o o_O
Silmarillion!

Make us care MORE about our faction & world pvp!
Hell and Yes! This is my dream!
Mmm I would love cyberpunk. Snowcrash, Deus Ex, Shadowrun. Anything cyberpunk would be pretty awesome, but a massive undertaking.
I've personally been waiting for a Shadowrun MMORPG for a while. It'll be crazy if it ever actually happens.
GAME OF THRONES
Starship Troopers (but not that crappy movie) or something off of the Foundation series.
Babylon 5, or yes, a sandox Foundation mmo, ala EVE, playing a trader.
With as good as Anarcy Online eventually got i think a Cyberpuck MMO would be badass !!!
