Sony Station Access going to $20. Worth it?

So it seems Sony is lowering their Access price to 19.99/month. Seems pretty good but I'm not sure I am really interested in more than 1 MMO at any given time. Still...

What a great price if you are interested in the 9 titles listed.

Anyone interested in playing multiple SOE titles?

They are a bunch of dead or dying games, but still a cheap price.

Yes, I signed up. I like to play Vanguard, PoTBS, and DCUO.

I'd say it's worth it simply because if you like to play EQ and EQ2, it's cheaper than having two subscriptions.  Sadly, those are about the only two games worth playing at this point.

interesting. I want to play Vanguard

The price is well enough, but I have burnt out on EQ2 and is pissed on Sony since they let out all our personal information on the net.

If EQ Next will be good I would reconsider but right now VG is the only game in there that interest me even the slightly.

The more I think about it, the more $20 a month sounds good to me. For $20 a month I can play VG and EQ2 all i want. Sounds like a good deal.

Station Pass has some nice advantages to it. It allows you to jump in and out of each game whenever you want, it gives you VIP membership in Free Realms and it gives veteran reward collection over time in all the other games. If you play one of the games regularly and like to jump in and out of the others or if you play two of the games regularly, it's decent deal.

You know its ironic that I was just thinking about this today and here it happens :) .  I always thought that the Station Access should have always been $20 from the beginning.  I mean its a win-win situation for them.

You can only play one game at a time anyway, so its not like they are losing money.  They are actually gaining money because most people probably do not have two subcriptions to a P2P mmorpg and certainly not more then two.  So its an easy $20 for them.

Plus it will boost populations all across the board because there is no reason for current players not to check out all the games.

This is a very smart move in my opinion.  I just might pick up the Station Access myself.

You guys have it wrong, it's not $20/mth... it's whatever you have in your checking account for the rest of your life. Could be costly.

Jeez, I just reopen my account and paid the GD 30 today.  WTF was I thinking?

    Interesting, thanks.

It does seem the sum of its parts is more significant than any single title. Planetside on its own may not be worth full attention from me but as a side game it looks worthy. Same for DC I suppose. Hmmm.

I seriously doubt I'll ever play another game that is on the "Sony Access" system.  Every abuse victim has their limits and I'm way past my limit when it comes to be "drilled" by Sony.

Saw this on twitter. I'm already station access user and I think it is totally worth it. The only downside is it takes longer to get anything done in any game because you switch back and forth. For me it is EQ and EQ2 that I switch back and forth depending on my mood of the day.

I'm surprised they are doing this, but I think it is a great deal.

You use a card tied to your checking account?.  LOL, prepaid credit cards are your friend.  Or at least have a dedicated checking account just for the game.  Both are easy enough to get.

It's pretty great deal for those games, but I've been a suckered too many times by SOE.

I wish NCSoft would offer something like this.

well, this makes good sense. when the price went up to 30$ a month we still had MXO and DCUO and the Agency were coming along soon. Now MXO is gone, DCUO is a flop and the Agency is canceled so...

Do Vanguard players get 16 slots for characters with the station pass ?

Otherwise I dont care, the only SOE game that interests me right now is Vanguard.

In future it might change, if they have EQ Next out, it would be nice being able to test that out without time constraints and still being able to play Vanguard.

  • WarmakerWarmaker Member UncommonPosts: 2,246

I've had numerous, very bad experiences with SOE in the past.  I wouldn't try it even if it was free.

Smart move!  Not sure I'd pay it, though.  Maybe from time to time, whereas I wouldn't have even considered, before.

If Sony can prove that they've gotten their act together with regards to the IT security of their systems, I'd probably bite. As it is, I don't trust them enough to chance giving them any more of my personal info.

My nephew has become a victim of ID theft.  It appears Sony is the culprit according to what his monitoring service told him.  I would advise not using Sony at all at least for the foresable future.  From what I have been hearing, many hackers feel Sony is a perfect target and they will continue to exploit the band aid fixes they implement since the entire system is flawed.  What people dont realize is the Sony can't fix this, its their system and they need to implement a whole new security system.  This will cause them to be down for a signficant amount of time and the loss of revenue will be enormous.

This is a smart move by SOE, even if it is one born out of desperation.

SOE doesn't really have any games that are strong enough to compete with other mmos charging $15 a month right now.  Lowering their price is a step in the right direction.
