How many of you have not played a MMORPG in years?

PyscoJuggaloPyscoJuggalo Member UncommonPosts: 1,114

I have not played a MMORPG since 2007.  I keep checking here to find a MMORPG I'd like to play and they all turn out to be crap.  So how many others are in my boat, MMORPG fans who have not played a MMORPG in years?

The last MMORPG I played was Eve.

Oh and I played MMORPGs since the year 2000, EQ was my first.

My favorite MMORPG was SWG, Pre-NGE of course.

--CCP could cut off an Eve player's fun bits, and that player would say that it was good CCP did that.

I am a current player and having lots of fun with EQ2 and SWG. The future only looks better so i am quite excited for titles like GW2, ARche Age and TSW.

Current player.   For now it's GW and a few F2P games... RoM mostly.

I can relate to the peril of non-current players waiting for something good to break.  I feel the same myself.

Imo if you can't find a single mmo to your liking or standards in 4 years I think you'll probably never find one or you just aren't really looking.

Quit a year ago or so. Just playing singleplayer games and multiplayer (non-mmo) games aren't so bad ey. Bloodline Champions, Frozen Synapse, Dungeon Keeper, maybe some Descent 3 (only played the first level before), Heroes 5 campaigns, and some other random stuff.

All it takes is one bad day.

1 year now, playing more PS3.

But I'm waiting on The Secret World.

Technically I have played this year but with how little I actually played I havent seriously played an MMO since the first year of Wrath of the Lich King for WoW. Otherwise I'm waiting for Titan (or any decent title that isn't all hype).

I'm about 2-3 months shy of being off MMORPGs for 2 years.

    First MMORPG was UO.

My most favorite of all that I tried was SWG (Pre-CU/NGE), and it was the longest one I played.

Last one I played was LOTRO.

Most hilarious Post-Launch Collapse that I was part of was AoC.

Last one that left a terrible experience was STO.

My name is Sage and it's been 3 months since I've logged into an MMO (discounting trials), and six since I've logged in to play it.

    Hu ?

Why exactly am I expected to play games I already know I wont enjoy ?

If the genre just produces crap I'm not gonna play it. End of discussion.

Besides, after a 2 year pause I actually finally found a MMO that looks worth playing. Bioware is doing SW:TOR. Game looks very sound so far. Not as good as Vanguard, no way. But heavy story based and with an ambundance of classes and possibilities. Yeah I'm no fan of RvR, and heavy instancing isnt exactly fun either, but oh well, nobody is perfect.

Been playing mmos for what seems like ages now.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Not true.  The genre is stuck in a rut, that is unless you want to play indie titles.  But those have their problems in other places.   A lot of us are waiting for an actualy AAA title to push the genre forward, and there are a few titles on the horizion that might just do that.

Perhaps not,  I been playing eq2 since the get go,  It has always been my one true MMO that I love.  I took a couple of years off to play LOTRO and came back.

Now a lot of the new stuff, without naming names of the same old fail and clone games yes most of the stuff we got over the past 4 years has been the same old thing with new wrapping paper and a bow.

I've tried them all just about. I used to buy, play for a while then quit. Now, I wait for free trials. So, technically I have been 'trying' MMOs for quite a while now. However, I haven't played a game for consecutive months for a very long time.

  • UsualSuspectUsualSuspect Member UncommonPosts: 1,243

The last one I played seriously was Lord of the Rings Online, until they started to cater more to the soloer. Everything else since I haven't bothered with, they're all the same themepark single player nonsense we've been seeing for years.

  • KorbyKorby Member Posts: 499

Haven't played one seriously for about a year, but I've always bounced around them for fun.

I've stayed in a few MMOs for more than a month,  and I always come back to global agenda,  but its rare for me to find a game that will keep me for multiple months.  last one that I stayed in for 2 months with a sub was DCUO,  and they screwed the PvP up so bad within that time I'm hard pressed to come back without some major encouragement.   Before that the only sub game I spent my time in for more than 2 months was FE.

Waiting on SWTOR, TERA, TSW, ArcheAge,  PSO 2, GW2... the list goes on.  I like to play them all until I get bored with them, if I don't stay for more than a month or so its no big deal.  I'm happy as long as I get some entertainment out of them.

I feel this way right now. On the plus side, I actually have color in my skin again.

Waiting for anything from the new crop to grab me.

SWTOR will have no RvR.  PvP yes.  And yes there is a huge difference.

If it were not for EVE, I would not be playing an MMORPG right now.

I quit Eve Online about 2 years ago, having run two accounts.

I lost faith in CCP in doing sensible things for the game, and I was annoyed about a variety of issues.

No other MMO seem interesting to me. Finding a good MMO for my tastes is pretty much hopeless I fear.

I will not play SWTOR nor will I try it out.

  • SlothnChunkSlothnChunk Member UncommonPosts: 788

I haven't signed into an MMO for weeks now. The PC MMO genre has grown stale. I'm hoping some console MMOs like Undead Labs' Zombie MMO or Defiance could freshen up the genre.

My favorite all time MMO was SWG pre-CU.

I'm a current player - been playing Mortal Online since launch and still really enjoying it.  I've played a ton of different MMOs, and still play a few on the side as well, but MO really gives me a different experience from most.

Having said that, I still think there are quite a few enjoyable games out there.  Games only give you what you allow them to.  Going into them with an open mind, looking for the enjoyment, instead of hunting for the worst or hanging onto unrealistic preconceived expectaions, really helps.

Your comment reminds me of what someone said on another thread, they mentioned that their tastes have matured.

For whatever reason, I thought of Games like Beers...and while at first your young and you might like Light Beers, you may move onto to darker choices, Porters, Milk Stouts etc, until you find one that you just love.

What if it didn't get made anymore? But hey, there are 50 kinds of WINE COOLERS!

What if that was the ONLY beer you ever liked?

Do your tastes just all of a sudden change?

Are you going to pay to drink something you dont like?

The last long term MMO I had was SWG which I quit Nov 15th 2005.

I've tried every MMO since but hate them all.
