I'm not looking for a sandbox with no classes (although that would be awesome) or a game with the most detailed and involving crafting system around (again, that would be awesome if any of you guys have one), I'm just looking for something far simpler (and yet, seemingly, less likely to be found).
I'm looking for a game to play. Something open world similar to Vanilla WoW (bigger is better, but as long as it doesn't have Cataclysm's/WAR's/Rift's "run down this rat track until you get bored and quit", that's good enough) with PvP and crafting and lots of crap to do. It doesn't have to be the best game, I don't care if it is Korean looking or Western or realistic or whatever.
There's just a few simple things:-
- Cash shop cannot make or break the player experience. No $500 items that cause you to shoot swords out of your arse and piss fire.
- It has to have a health mix of PvE and PvP. Capturing city's or whatever makes it far better.
- World has to be open-ish (imagine Vanilla WoW) and not be seperated into instances.
That's pretty much it.
Any ideas, ladies and gents?
Thanks in advance.

It doesn't exist. At least not in a form that is worth your time/money.
Good luck in your pursuit.
Have you checked out LotRO, Vanguard or Fallen Earth?
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
I'd like to remind everyone that Vanguard is not a sandbox game. It has a big world, It has player housing, but it is not a sandbox. It IS worth a try however.
I'd reccomend to you Haven and Hearth. Even though I know it's far from what you want, its the closest you're going to get. There is no cash shop, so there are no inherently overpowered items, the world is entirely open, there are no instances (save for like caves, but people can enter and leave those as they please). The game is a mix between PvP and PvE in that durring your travels through the massive game world (could take upwards of 12 hours to traverse) you'll see wildlife, and other characters. If you've got sufficent level skills to kill them, go right ahead, then skin and butcher the animals and loot the people, just beware that there are no skill caps, so there is a good chance that the other player has a higher attack stat than you or whatever and might just kill you, and death is perminent.
Anyway, there is no way I can explain it to you in one post, the game is too expansive. Check out the forums or the WIki.

Mortal online can be such game some day, but only if SV manage to take control over bugged patches.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

Who said VG is a sandbox?
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR

Played them all. Quit LotRO when it went cash shop friendly, didn't play Vanguard for long when I went to check patch notes and the last update was like 2009 and Fallen Earth just bored me to tears for some reason.
I'm one of the founding players. Haven't played for a looooooong time, though.
Add me on Steam!

Lol sounds like the OP is looking for the same exact near perfect non existing game that many of us seek but know will never come..
Like others say VG may be worth a try to you i myself am going to play it again as soon as $OE drops the access to 19.99...
Playing GW2..
I actually had fun in VG even back in beta when it was quite a bit worse then it's current state. It just takes some patience with the issues that will likely never be fixed. I think anyone that plays it can see it's potential, but when the reality sets in that $OE has left it to a slow death, it's hard to pay them each month for running it in to the ground. I think they're just keeping the server going as long as there are enough subs to offset the running cost, then it'll shutdown as soon as it falls under that mark.
Yep Vanguard is likely as close as you're going to come, although there's no PvP. And despite the lack of development there is a tremendous amount of content.
The game you seek doesn't exist and probably never will. Most of the market wants highly accessible themepark games. I myself would love the game you describe but have given up on it happening. We're too much of a niche crowd for developers to target.
