Heya. I just started back up. I played in beta and at launch, through 2004, then left until now.
Ywain server is very active with 1500+ on during slow times and I've seen upwards of 2700+ on weekends. Free transfers for characters off all the other servers (which are gone now but archived so you can still get your characters transferred instantly) to Ywain.
There's tons of rvr action anytime of the day or night, but it's comprised mostly of vets who are fully decked out in the best template gear, tons of RR's and abilities... so it's a tough life for someone just coming back, unless you have lots of money to template yourself out. A couple of the mid to upper end BG's are packed still as well.
Anyway, best of luck to ya! It's stilla great game, but it takes a different approach now. I'm told now that i will never catch up and never be able to compete, as a casual player.. and i believe that from what I have seen. That's fine with me, I am having a blast regardless.
I''ve actually never played before, other than free trialing it a few times. I am downloading it again now, along with a few other games to trial. My main game is FFXI but there's no PVP.. so I was looking for something to fill that gap.

You can catch up, it s alot easier to get gear/money now. The RVR is the best of any game. A decent guild will help alot, to run rvr etc. Honestly, except a few things , the game is funner to me now then back at release. I wouldn t worry about being casual, as long as you can find a decent guild. Getting artifacts, and ML levels is easy, just need to farm alot, but you can and will have fun. Basically, if you re looking for good pvp, theres nothing better.
You can't go anywhere else for the kind of RVR DAOC offers. There is a hardcore that just keeps playing.
can you transfer characters from the old pvp server to ywain, I think it was mordred? Anyway I have a 50 thane on there but last time i played I dont think you could transfer from there =(
Mordred is still there, and sadly that's the only server where you cant transfer chars to ywain from.
ah, lame =[
Now I wonder why this is? It was more difficult to level up characters to 50 on Dred, so I can't see a reason for this.
But if only they'd find a way to bring Dred back to life and I'd return. I've got like 3 or 4 level 50's including a Hunter in Shadowclan and I'd love to return for another go.

There is also a pretty large number of vets that still play on classic,non-live servers, so there is still a lot of folks around enjoying the game. Totally beyond me why EA is not trying to do something with this playerpool.
