Some questions before trying....

DolmongDolmong Member Posts: 515

Hi guys, Ryzom seems a good game to give it a try atm!!  Hopefully you guys can give me some headstart by answering these questions, thx!

1.)  Is there housing?  Can you build your own shop?

2.)  Let say you can build a village with your guild, how much you can customize the intererior and the looks for the village?

3.)  Is the game similar to SWG, as crafters are mainly crafters with limited offense skill, as in vice versa for hunters?  then crafters usually need to buy mats instead?

4.)  Hows the armor customization?  Will the outlook change a lot fo changing armors?

So far the most concern about this game for me is the housing part, I really hope there is housing like SWG!! =)

Thanks!

Ryzom missed out on marketing during the post Asheron's call era.  There are maybe 100 people playing it.  It was fun for a while, its a game where you only need 1 char and can eventually max everything although very slowly.  you can craft everything yourself, and it doesnt affect your hunting.

I believe they have a 21 day trial, after about 14 of it I stopped playing cause it just seemed out of date and unpopulated.  Also every mob only drops mats, no gear drops at all.

i know exactly what you are looking for

as far as housing, nope, nothing like SWG (not even sure if there is housing)

as crafting, very similar and could be used to sub the void SWG left in your gamer heart. but there are not harvesters that you can plan and maintain... consider it as survey and personal harvesting... lots to explore with quality and whatnots.

but for me personally, even though its very similar to SWG, the game didnt appeal to me, be it the world or the races, just wasnt my cup of tea. but by all means, give it a try (i think they still have the free trial)

also note they have had a history of development troubles and has changed hands couple of times....

It's free to play now untill a certain level, can't remember what t was...100 or something. I played the newb starter area and it seemed to have quite a few people playing now probably due to that change. Never had a problem getting a group, though i did hear it gets quite empty outside the newb area.  I'm sure that will fill up some once people get out of the newb zone.

    Archlinux ftw

1.) I think so, never really played long enough to find out, if there is i don't think it's too the level of swg though

    2.)don't know that one

3.)Crafting system here is actually better than swg's i thought and more sandbox so u can mix and match crafting skills and combat skills, but though the resource gathering could do with an overhaul.

4.)Different resources(both quality and type) give different attributes to what u make

Now has a f2p model to a certain level the p2p to cap i think rather than the 21 day trial

It is definitely worth checking out, but i always found it too heavy on the grind for me:(

I see, thanks for all the info.

I guess I'm passing this game.  But still I wish the best of Ryzom!

Well, being ryzom totally free to play up to level 125 (not only in the starting island but everywhere), i think it would be much better to try it out by yourself instead of reading outdated info from people that seems don't know much of the actual game state.

    1. There is housing but no personal shop. You can customize your apartment and invite people into it. It's main purpose is to increase your storage.

    2. You cannot build a village. Guilds can have a Guild hall but, contrary to personal apartments, they cannot be customized yet. Guilds can also conquer and defend an Outpost and build one special building into it but there are no interiors of the building.

    3. Depends by player choice. There is no limitation in the number of skills you can work on, except the time you wanna invest on the game. There are crafters with high combat skills and crafters with low combat skills. Crafting is generally coupled with harvesting, becasue harvesting in ryzom is not just a "click and collect" skill, but it's a mini-game of itì's own, where the sources can kill the gatherers, and people can even team to harvest togheter (there is a sort of special action, called careplan, to help a harvester get more mats safely. Ryzom is similar to swg in the sense that crafting/harvesting are main factors in ryzom and all the recipes must be discovered mixing the mats, ie: you don't have fixed recipes all equal, unless u use the exact same mix of materials (you'll never find on the net the best recipes of ryzom). Crafter can buy mats from npc to help leveling the skills, but not to craft good stuff that require harvesting/hunt or trade with other people.

    4. There are different armor sets in different colors and you can mix the single pieces.... better if you go to ballisticmystix.net and see the gallery.

Final note: despite some good similarity with swg, you will not find the same kind of housing. If you are looking specifically for this feature, ryzom doesn't have it.

x Myrdynn: there is no point in trolling.... how WG could maintain 3 servers (english, french, german) with only 100 players?

You are entitled to express your negative opinion about the game, but don't give false informations, given you have played few days and only in the tutorial island.

Well if you do decide to play be sure not to criticize the game in any way or the CSRs will do everything in their power to make you quit.  They will mute you, delete your posts, stalk you in game etc..  CSR Sywindt especially, that guy has no concept of what Customer Service is.

Ryzom is a great game but does not have the type of SWG housing or shops sought by the OP.   I wish it did.  I wish any other game did!

As for the CSR's, they are far and away the best I have encountered in all the mmorpgs I have played.  The community is mature and has little tolerance for trolls or their drama.

I agree this used to be the case.  However the current crop of CSRs apparently don't know the difference between a valid critcism with the intention of improving the game and troll drama.  It is a shame too because this game deserves much better than what it currently has.

Ludis, your opinions obviously differ from mine.  But when I said they "are" the best I meant exactly that.  It is the "current crop" with which I am very happy and I've played Ryzom off-and-on since 2004.

Sorry you had a different experience.

Ryzom is a great game and it has finally moved to free to play. This will open the door to more players discovering this great game.
I have myself tried the game before and the only reason I quit is because of the lack of population. But now, with the free to play system, I created a new account and I am downloading as we speak.
