The League of Legends Season One tournament has concluded with FNaticMSI being crowned the ultimate winner. During the three day event, nearly two million viewers checked the tournament's progress and over two hundred thousand watched the final battle.
“We are absolutely blown away by how many eSportsfans tuned in to watch our Season One Championship,” said Marc Merrill, president of Riot Games and executive producer of League of Legends. “Bringing together the most talented League of Legends teams in the world resulted in some of the best games we’ve ever seen! The Season One Championship was the perfect venue to debut our upcoming Spectator Mode, and the quality level of our live broadcast is just a sign of things to come.”

congrats to the winners. I played LoL for a short time, and I didn't find it very fun at all. I found BLC more exciting to be honest.
Was such an intense match to watch, they really deserved the win though. Great teamwork
blc is just cheap mediocre ripoff noone really knows/cares about
lol is similar to original dota, with lots of changes in gameplay, mechanics and structure
and hon=dota with better graphics
lol is getting more and more popular cuz its free and has matchmaking for newbies and this is the best thing that could happen to dota-type game; dota is full of hate speech, there are no tutorials etc; and tho its easy to play after several days, it's impossible to find balanced team in dota, there are always some pros, some noobs, some retards and some that act like spectators - it doesn't appeal to anyone that tries to learn
If you are concerned with how to play the game, try to learn how to "Smart-Cast" and "Attack-Move" and then watch these tournament videos.
In addition to being a clinic on how to be amazing at the game, they are extremely exciting matches.

It was alot of fun to watch this tournamnet. Never thought i would like watching e-sports before!
LoL is a great game but I don't understand why it's on mmorpg.com
Shouldnt it be on rtsguru instead?
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
As a close follower of e-sports, I can say that the Level curve of League of Legends feels a lot like a PvP only MMORPG considering the amount you have to learn and the difference in your character viability from Summoner level 1 to Summoner level 30. It is a MOBA style game, which to me is much like a CORPG (Guild Wars style)
That been said, a lot of people would throw MOBA and CORPG games out the window because they don't have the persistent worlds of most MMORPG games. I would contest that LoL belongs on MMORPG category (even though it is 100% MOBA and 0% MMORPG) because it feels like an MMORPG game. I feel like I am PvPing on WoW, or Guild Wars, or even EQ at times when playing League of Legends. Especially when you learn how to smart cast and attack move. There are just so many little nuances and fun thing to learn on the way up the level curve and ladder. It has progression, community, and faithful core elements.
Based on that alone, I would never argue LoL showing up on MMORPG.com

The only reason I liked BLC is because it is a little faster paced, but I don't play it anymore either. Again, I'm happy for the winners and those that find this game style attractive, I'm just not one of them I guess.
played this game back during the beta, great fun, didn't expect to see it reach this height of popularity but eh i guess some people dig it. not my cup of tea though.
I just simply don't understand how can someone accept this game as esports game. It's so casual, so easy, unbalanced, map amount is laughable. The only thing this game has that is good for esports is popularity and that popularity comes not from game quality, but from the fact that this game is f2p.
Sounds just like a bitter HoN fan
You know soccer is a very casual friendly sport too and it only has 1 map. Still the most popular sport in the world.
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
No I don't play HoN. It's just stupid what amount of skill and training time investment you need to LoL comapred to esports games like counter-strike, quake-live, starcraft 2, it's not even comparable.
the game is not perfect, but its currently one of the best online games and definitely one of the top f2p games.
unbalanced? definitely not. i actually find it hard to read words 'easy' and 'unbalanced' in the same sentence. counterlogic.
Yes it is unablanced, there is nothing to be ashamed about to have imbalance with that amount of champions. But what riot does for fixing this problem ? They release more and more new champions. Why ? Because they don't care that much about balance as they care about money. Instead releasing new champiosn they should release new maps and take more time into balancing current ones.
Your logic is failure actually, for example i can simply use so called "I WIN" button. Does it require skill to push it ? No.
Is it unbalanced ? Yes.
Eh why would it take more skill and training in thoose games?
Does it take more skill and traning to win in hockey than soccer?
Makes no sense. Only differnce is that thoose games are alot older. (counting SC)
And I dont see how LoL is too unbalanced, it's not perfect but don't see how it affected the games in the tournamnet. Bans ancd picks solve alot of the inblances.

I'm still trying to make a living playing Counter-Strike.. Guess I am going to have to get serious on this LoL stuff too.. I have only learned (and got real good) with 3 champions though..
No seriously though, is it worth it being a professional gamer? Anyone know? Whats like the yearly salary like? And what are my actual chances of getting recognized and playing for cash?
Do i have a better chance getting signed by an NFL team as a walk on?
This the same FNaticMSI from HoN as well? The one that won the aganist Duskbin? Very nice, However I do enjoy HoNcast more then LoL just in my opinion seems more fast pace.
LOL. What are you smoking? I'm pretty sure they release patches on the champs every two weeks to help balance the game. AND you don't have to spend money on the new champs buddy. YOUR logic fails hard. nublet lol
I think it was on day 2 (Sunday) during the winners bracket semifinals that they broke the 200,000 viewers mark. The grand finals did have a ton of viewers as well, but it was less than 200,000 (most likely because it was on a Monday).
Congrats to Riot games for putting on such a great show and congrats to FNaticMSI for their perseverance after struggling in the group stage because of a team members delayed flight. They came back strong with some pretty aggressive Gragas and Alistar play!
LoL is now one of 3 titles going to the Intel Extreme Master Series, alongside SC2 and CS.
Definitely one of the best games out there at the moment.
To those who thinks it's "easy," why aren't you winning the tournaments then? It's easy to learn and play, and definitely hard to master.
honeslty i dont see the comparison bewteen LoL and HoN, they are both offspring of dota, except for 1 thing, hon is dota.
whereas lol is an evolution of it, regardless of its f2p status.
NA teams need to step up their game next year, EU teams were more experienced (and have been around for a while like Fnatic). It was fun to watch, and the only unfortunate part was the dc's during important matches.

God I can't wait for DOTA2 to come out and finally kill all those stupid clones they made.
LoL is NOT a competitive game, its made for a sole purpose of getting easy money off something much more unique(Dota) It has little to no skill required to play and as much balance as that also. If its so good and soo comeptitively oriented, why isnt it listed on the official ESWC list? And I tell you it never will be.
To those complaining about Dota learning curve, you have to understand that Dota is a MAP. Supported by nobody but its community, its not easy to suddenly understand every little detail. I heard this complaint so many times...first thing I'm gonna do when DOTA2 comes, i will sign up for a trainer to help crying newbies out

So how do you then explain that LoL developers were swiftly butchered by the pro LoL gamers at dreamhack? From your comment I am just seeing a DoTA fanboy. If you don't like LoL that is your loss but don't go hating on it, because your view is clearly biased.
By that logic, HoN isn't competitive either? You're just saying things because you dislike LoL. Don't talk out of your ass like that.
