    it's a waste of time. They aren't going to change their minds. SWG will shut down on December 15 and that's that.

    Stupid.

    Lucas pulled the contract, TOR is coming and they want all their marbles there.  You may as well ask them to cancel TOR while your at it for about as much effect as this is going to have.  Petitions are dumb.

    because SOE needs more chances with the Star Wars license?

    Let it expire and maybe give another company a chance.

  • I enjoyed pre-CU and even the CU. NGE removed a little bit to much of the freedom I enjoyed about SWG. Will be sad to see a once honored game die a horribly shameful death, but hey I guess it was just time.

    Is this thread a joke?

  • RyphtRypht Member UncommonPosts: 39

    If SOE could possibly do anything right, to attone for their sins.  The day they shut the servers down, they should release the pre-NGE source code in an open source format, and let the gaming community run with it.  They don't have to support it beyond that, just give the tools to return the gem that was pre-NGE SWG.

  • DrannyDranny Member UncommonPosts: 279

    As much as i loved the game back before the CU i think the game should be put out to pasture and maybe SWG II for a new and better company.

  • ichimarunicoichimarunico Member Posts: 210

    Why in god's name would you want that train wreck still running? SWG died in 2005. Let it die and pray that people get all the useful packets they need collected (already in progress) and some good samaritan leaks the old code when nobody is looking...

    I remember vets being told this after the NGE, lol. We did, we are waiting for TOR. SO in a way it's almost karma, though I do sympathize with current SWG players.

    Thank you for posting that.  I have signed it and passed it on.

    {mod edit}

    People ACCEPT the game for how it is, flaws and all and we LOVE to play it because its so much more different than the other games.

    A decision was made for us and maybe we are signing it to let these big corporations know that we are not happy about it.  Whether it fails or succeeds, at least we tried, so keep your stupid remarks to yourselves.

    People were willing to try both games or even play them at the same time, but again LA being the assholes that they are, did what they did and well, here we are.  I have played many different MMORPG's but NONE ever compared to SWG.  So you elitist gamer pigs can STFU about "how dumb and pointless" it is to try and save our game.  Don't pick it apart and name all the things that SoE could have done, blah, blah, blah.  We ALREADY KNOW AND ARE STILL WILLING TO PLAY IT!!!!!!

    If you asked anyone who is still playing SWG or the ones who plan to stick around until December, you would get some heartfelt stories about why they still play the game, why they love it so much.  Don't be so quick to be such jerks because we are trying to save a game.  Have a heart FFS.

    For those of you idiots who posted how dumb it was to even try and save such a great game, do you even play the game?

     I can understand where you are comming from with that. But you have also have to think about us SWG Vets that was around before CU and NGE arrived. We saw how the game became something entirely different. I accepted CU as it was still SWG for me but I couldn't undersatnd NGE which changed the game, made it easier on all aspects and dumbed it down so much I started to question SOE. Now, I have played NGE from time to time just to see if friends are still playing (some still do) But overall you can tell what NGE did. It's not the SWG I knew that's dying, it's something else.

    SWG, for me, will always be that one MMO that was almost a home run: it had the height, it had the distance, but right before it went out of the park it hit the foul pole and bounced the wrong way into the stands.

    I was there on opening day. I still have my Collectors Edition box safely tucked away. The game didn't release flawlessly, there were plenty of problems with it, but the world was vast and ripe for the taking. It really felt like a virtual world, not an online game, and if there were bugs, we were all fighting the same bugs together.

    I stopped playing before the Combat Update hit. It wasn't as much that I disliked the game, it was just didn't have time to offer to the game (military deployment), and by the time I could devote some time to gaming again, CU and NGE had hit, and then I had to pick a class (WTF?), my cool melee wookie was not nearly the same, the cantinas were dead, the cities mostly empty, and it wasn't nearly the same. I went back to EQ and started a fairly prolific and successful raiding stint (one I have semi-recently returned to).

    Even after CU and NGE devestated the servers, I would still log in from time to time (I am still an avid EQ player, I had a Station Pass sub just for SWG) and toot around in a Y-Wing and blow up some random critters, maybe even through out a harvestor or two - it still amazes me that the worlds are big enough that harvestors and houses actually take up real real estate in the gaming world, not just some made up instanced craphole. And resources would shift based on world collection, that still amazes me. This game has so many things right, and they still can't be found in any other MMO released today.

    I won't miss the SWG that is online now. I won't even miss the SWG that was released in 2003. I will miss the game that SWG very nearly almost was. This game was so close to greatness (in my opinion) that it really does hurt a little bit. The Star Wars IP did absolutely nothing for this game, it stood on it's own merit, and was brought down by it's own folly. For that reason alone, I think it deserves a proper burial. Legally, for the reason that it is a child of two parents: SOE and LucasArts, there is no real hope of this petition doing any good: the best you can hope for are unofficial emulated servers (which exist), and hope they stay under the radar enough that they don't get struck down via legal action.

    Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright,
    The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
    And somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout;
    But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out.

        I tried this game just after launch, just after the CU changes and just after the NGE changes and each time the game was boring beyond belief for me.  For those people that are mad the game is finally being buried, I feel for you, but as far as I am concerned the game died the day it was launched and they didn't even try to fix it by immediately adding content and fixing the bugs.  This was a long time coming and personally, I am glad to see it be put away.  I do feel bad for the people that still play it, but not bad enough to stop me from feeling the way I do.

    The NGE version of SWG is an abortion of the original design and need to die already.

    Had all people stopped paying, as the majority of the playerbase did, instead of continue to play after the NGE, we may had a great game now that we all could love. Blame the instant gratification NGE kids for the current state of the game, not the vets that quit.

     Okay, how about all comments about Star Wars Galaxies and all the flaws it has and all the stuff SoE did before to ruin it and everything after... How about because we the customers/fan base/the underdogs, had someone speak for us, make a decision for us without even asking how we felt about it.  Because we spent so much time, effort and money into that game.  Do any of you like decisions being made for you?  In the world we live in now, decisions are being made for us that don't ever benefit us.  Yes, we are the underdogs trying to save a game that came to mean so much to us.  I'm sure some of you guys have been around a long time and have seen a lot of games come and go and if you EVER spent any sort of time in Star Wars Galaxies, a game that offers such a variety of things to do, you would know what I was talking about.  Those people that loved the game so much before pre-NGE and SoE did what they did, you all signed a petition and yes, nothing happened, they turned their backs on you, don't you for once, want to see something positive happen for those of us who love the game just as much as you did, come out on top?  This is about standing up for something you believe in and not being run over by a big corporation concerned more about making money than caring about their fan base.  Why not stand up and cheer for the underdogs instead of sending scathing remarks or jeers at us?  Why not support your fellow gamers for standing up and TRYING to save something so beloved to us?  Most of us would still pay hard earned money to play this game to keep it going.  I work hard for my money and I have bills like everyone else, but I still would pay.

    I know that there are those of you out there rolling your eyes at what I just said, but I speak from my heart and we have to at least try, so please, please, please.. don't ridicule us for what we are trying to do.  Give us your support (no matter how lame you think the reason is) do it because you have hearts and because as gamers, we all share the same thing in common, the love of immersing oneself into a fantasy world where you can disappear in just for a little bit before you have to go back to the reality of your real life.
