A living breathing dynamic world, a class system that allows you to group with anyone you want with no fear of penalty (grouping with anyone you want usually happens in classless games), a personal storyline that is tailored to your character, a very large variety of content, etc. What was I thinking? We have never had overhyped ideas before have we... Damn right, good thing people have played and seen those features in action!! You tell em boss!

Both these games are hyped right now, that doesn't really add anything.
GW2 is trying out more new features than TOR. That might not actually be a good idea, it really depends on how much people are burnt out on the current MMO model and which of the 2 games that implements it's new ideas the best.
But the reason that anything that both games have that differs from games like Wow and EQ do tell us a bit.
These games are trying 2 different paths and which one that will be the best in the long run is still something we wont know for a while, but don't underestimate either of them. Both ANET and Bioware have some very experienced and competent devs.

You... you do know fans have played it, though, right? And even non-fans, because anyone can just wait their turn in line at a convention and play it like anybody else.
Edit: another thing; most of the time when there's a positive preview and a negative review it's situations like Age of Conan where the first 20 levels were great and polished and the rest of the game doesn't measure up. Warhammer never managed to display most of its great features in demos/expos.
And, yes, it's possible that the bits of GW2 that haven't been shown at demos aren't up to snuff. Unfortunately, the demos always show off multiple level ranges, so, we know that 1-20 is polished, and 45-50 is polished, and 25-30 is polished... maybe 30-45 is a hot mess . Unless they show that at upcoming cons, of course.

I started out liking TOR more than GW2, but time has changed my opinion. It's not so much the hype generated by ANet that changed my opinion, but the fact that several people have actually played the game and universally say it's amazing.
It's not just journalists either, I've read reports from people that went to conventions like PAX and played the game say how great it was. I believe this far more than I believe hype generated by the developers.

Then ask any of the regular people who got to play it at one of the many conventions GW2 was at.
It's very simple for me. I will buy and play SWTOR because it is SW with the BW story dialogue choice feature I like. I want to play through the SW stories in an interactive way as well as group with others that enjoy the same thing.
and
I will buy and play GW2 because it is B2P and a good change up to TOR. It will be a fun and active game with the combat and dynamic events filled game world.
So it is a win win for me. I see no need to say one is better than the other or one will "beat" the other. Both games are different enought to stand on their own and be good games.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them? R.A.Salvatore

TBH I AM a FAN...however when I get to play GW2 at Comic-Con next month I will be right back here and I promise to be the most honest I can be, I have played guildwars just about every week for the last 5 or so years. So I may not be the best guy to get info from but I do have many questions for Anet and plan to go into my Demo time with Extreme caution. I plan to not hold back with my issues with the game and anything that I could slide under the table, I Wont.
but needless the say, I am very excited for GW2, and if i knew if Lucas Arts was bringing SWTOR to their (always) huge booth then i would be excited to play it was well.

Is basically a TOR fan, but he describes the ranged combat as "wooden." Just doesn't give me warm and fuzzies about the game.
It's certainly a trend. When I see reviewers go in the other direction (bigger GW2 fan initially, turning into a SWTOR fan) I'll become concerned. However, people who are typically more of GW2 fans tend to have beefs with traditional MMO trappings, so I find it hard to imagine someone who isn't a SWTOR fan already being won over at this point. I'm not sure what new info could come out to convert anyone who hasn't made up their minds at this point.
In contrast, there are still people who don't know much about GW2, or even that it's a different game from GW1 (and not just a graphical reskin), or that it's not a Korean game, and other misconceptions.

If history tells me anything, it's that devs show what they want to show whether it be at expo's, in-house events, or even Open Betas. I can think of many games that initially got great Buzz all the way up to launch. It means nothing, I say that for both TOR and GW2, what we have now means nothing, it's what we get that matters.
Maybe that's just me though, I am one of those bitter old SWG vets after all.

It does seem like you have to chose though doesn't it. I have a feeling that there will be many gamers playing a sub game plus GW2. B2P makes that a very easy thing to do.

Hmmm, while it's of course entirely up to you what game you prefer, I find your arguments a bit questionable, besides the fact that you link to a review from 2009
I've read quite a lot of demo reviews and hands on reports myself, and I can state without lying or exaggerating that the vast majority of them, easily more than 90% was positive to very positive, professional reviewers as well as regular gamers and convention visitors, regarding the 1-hour play sessions as well as the day-long and weekend long play sessions.
So maybe it's all a matter of perception and dependent upon the glasses we wear?
I intend to play both (as well as some other MMO's), and I value the handson reports from both games, but for both games I also still maintain a 'wait and see' attitude: until we're close to launch and until I've played it myself or read detailed launch reviews, I keep my expectations neutral and low key.

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
gw just do it differently ,want to have all those skill unlocked np ,here is your tab ,want speciall skin ,here is your tab does it affect gameplay?never eard one complain ,their system of payment and revenue is proven and it works might be subtle change but i bet it will be something similar ,and with the carrot on a stick idea(tournament freq. made sure they always had player .hell i met the most epic pvper not in wow,eq2 or any other mmorpg i met them in guildwars theorycrafting team build for 8 player did you ever try theorycrafting pvp like you would do in a raid in wow.let me tell you it isnt static what worked last day wont work today because everybody that count in those tournament saw the replay if your team is important.i am not sweating too much about guild wars 2 it will be a success ,even if they charged the same price as eq1 they would still bring in huge number.not sure if they can reach wow but i can say they got insanelly close in the past before they advertise (too early )gw2

B2P makes it easy but at some point you will find yourself looking at your desktop picking one of the other...I do that with single player games. however the risk is if TOR gets on the Backburner the possible loss of subs creates a problem. If GW2 gets put on the backburner the B2P model makes this less of an issue , and even if you have a bit of fun and get a character to max and dont do anything, the chance of getting players to buy the expansions are still good.

No need to apologize .
You're right I will give any studio credit that shows off more than just one segment of the leveling curve. SWTOR has as well. Though they've held back what they have for end-game so far
I must say though, I'm following TSW, TOR and GW2, I like things all three are offering especially the focus on narrative.
However, I'm not completely sold any will be a runaway success at this point. It's still too early for that IMO. I'm not a picky guy by any means, I mean hell I played galaxies up until NGE afterall.
I just have a hard time buying into hype of any type. Fan related or marketing. I think it's all mostly agenda based, so I take everything with a grain of salt, I'm not exactly cynical, as i like to think on the positives over the negatives, I just hold all at a fair amount of skepticism to keep myself in check.

That is true for some, but I tend to continue to sub to a game that I will continue to play or come back to. It also depends on the community and guild you get into on sticking with a game. If you play the game as a SPG, you will put the game on the backburner as it gets stale.
With GW, I played the free open beta and purchased and played the game for a month or two while I was subed to another game. But I never had a chance to become a part of the communtiy with the setup of GW. I left and never paid for any of the expansions. So to me, regardless of the game play. It will come down to the community and how active I become as to where I end up playing and staying for the long term.

Apologies in advance for the double post, but I edited this in while you were responding to my prior post:
Is there a big screen with every MMO to date ready to play there? I might want to check that place out.
It does seem like you have to chose though doesn't it. I have a feeling that there will be many gamers playing a sub game plus GW2. B2P makes that a very easy thing to do.

I can't say for sure. I don't have acces to them to test.Even if i did this debate is for the childish people who love to have a good pissing contest.
We shall see.
I intend to play both (as well as some other MMO's), and I value the handson reports from both games, but for both games I also still maintain a 'wait and see' attitude: until we're close to launch and until I've played it myself or read detailed launch reviews, I keep my expectations neutral and low key.

gw just do it differently ,want to have all those skill unlocked np ,here is your tab ,want speciall skin ,here is your tab does it affect gameplay?never eard one complain ,their system of payment and revenue is proven and it works might be subtle change but i bet it will be something similar ,and with the carrot on a stick idea(tournament freq. made sure they always had player .hell i met the most epic pvper not in wow,eq2 or any other mmorpg i met them in guildwars theorycrafting team build for 8 player did you ever try theorycrafting pvp like you would do in a raid in wow.let me tell you it isnt static what worked last day wont work today because everybody that count in those tournament saw the replay if your team is important.i am not sweating too much about guild wars 2 it will be a success ,even if they charged the same price as eq1 they would still bring in huge number.not sure if they can reach wow but i can say they got insanelly close in the past before they advertise (too early )gw2

Why do so many people bicker over who has a better themepark? Dont worry, just like the special olympics, youre all winners
I predict that both games will fail.
