Looking for a sandbox game..

thefinnthefinn Member Posts: 46

Am really looking for a sandbox fantasy mmo that's preferably skill based, not a FPS and has some nice graphics.

Have had a look at rift, but dislike their class system - not really a sandbox anyhow. Have played darkfall I just consider that FPS style to be annoying, not to mention the grind to get a PVP viable character is a long long time. Am playing EvE Online, but again, it's not a fantasy setting and tends towards more of a job than a game in the end.

Any help ?

Ryzom is your game. Not fps, pure sandbox game, great skill system, great crafting system, great and inmersive world, great starter zone (with quests to learn the game, after you leave, it is pure sandbox), nice graphics... but small community. Great game though. Check it, it has a free trial

Mortal Online might be worth looking at as well.  It's got an FPS style combat, but very little grind as far as skill advancement is concerned (skill gain is relatively quick, game has a skill cap so not every character is great at everything).  It's definitely a sandbox-style fantasy MMO.

It's also got a free trial.

ArcheAge might be something for you to consider in the future (it's not yet released).

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

Yeah I'm really NOT after an FPS, as stated. imo they are a completely different genre of game to a standard MMO.

If I want an FPS I'll play a good one.

I think you might be misjudging mortal. It's by no means an MMOFPS. You see the world through the eyes of your character, sure, but it's still an RPG. Think (and I know people are going to jump on me for this) "Oblivion Online", which a few major differences, which I'm not too keen on because I have only played the trial.

Try Global Agenda, World of Tanks, and Perpetuum. All are F2P and well done for pvp.

And the other two games he suggested aren't sandbox games.

But like someone said, op could try ryzom, and theirs a couple other sandboxes, but your very limited. Darkfall has third person out of combat+melle combat and first person archery/magic, but you said it was too grindy so..

Mortal online is in first person view, buts its not a first person shooter. You don't have guns, but bows, magic, melle. Op said that it should be a different genre(so not sure if he's mixed up), but this is nothing like a fps like battle field 2 or mw. It's a big 100% persistant fantasy world, but very very buggy anyway.

perpetuum is  eve basically, which op mentioned.

Theres Ultima Online, but I've heard very bad things about the current live version

Wurm, xsyon are crafting heavy games(xsyon is also not  finished)

Then theres  a tale in the desert, haven and hearth, dawntide(I could never get it to even work, but you could try). And not fantasy, but earthrise.

There is also fallen earth which isn't really fantasy or a sandbox, but its more free than your average themepark( I woulndt consider it a themepark even, its just like... a  in between game)

    Or wait until archage.

For example, Oblivion is a functional piece of software. ;)

    Remember Old School Ultima Online
