Skyrim: Boss Fights, Tavern Brawls, Marriage, And More

firefly2003firefly2003 Member UncommonPosts: 2,527

If you're looking forward to Skyrim, you don't want to miss this. The creative team behind has answered 25 fan questions covering a broad spectrum of topics, from nit-picky specifics to more general info.

The Q&A, posted on Bethesda's blog, features Todd Howard (game director), Bruce Nesmith, (lead designer), and Matt Carofano (lead artist) fielding questions from gamers who are clearly hardcore fans of the series.

Honestly, you should probably read all 25 responses, but a few highlights include:

  • You can get married, and your spouse can move in if you own a house

  • Your leaning toward good or evil isn't represented by a number

  • Boss fights are not just enemies with more HP. They use a variety of tactics

  • Don't count on destructible environments

  • Skyrim has tavern brawls!

Personally, I'm a little disappointed by the decision to keep the old "restore your magic weapon by refilling it with soul gems" mechanic, but other than that, this Q&A leaves me more excited for Skyrim than ever.

A mod for Morrowind exists like that. It's basically the same as what the Hot Coffee mod did. :P So why not?

Why on earth would you want sex in a game?  There is not much point to it unless they also add children that affect the game in some way.

Now, I'm not sure if you want sex as in Fable or sex as in Mass effect but all in all its kind of pointless and knowing Bethesda they would much rather spend their time perfecting everything else than adding something like that.

    Bethesda =/= Bioware

Well it's honestly as much a story telling device in all matters of fiction as stabbing something with a sword.

Could just be one reason why someone asks.

Why on earth would there be dragons flying around? If we're asking absurd questions.

But if people want to have sex then then they can have sex.  I actually heard that its legal in some states.  Stabbing people on the other hand seems to be frowned upon.

I'm not saying there shouldnt be sex in any game, but this is a game thats obviously based on combat.  If you want to go do sexy things then you can play Leisure suit larry or Playboy: The mansion.

It all goes back to my initial point, friviolous sex in games is a waste of development time and I think Bethesda understands that.  They've never done it before so I dont know why anyone expects it here.

Prudishness isn't a great virtue btw.

Bioware's ME1 caused a stir, but just labelling it frivilous in a dramatic setting is a completely ignorant statement.

But your examples were comedy games for good use of sex?

Sorry, some people take the matter of relationships as seriously as the slaying of dragons. If you base the entire acceptance of physical "relations" (to use a term you might be comfortable with) in games on comedic dick jokes and the objectifing of  women; you have serious mental health issues that need addressed.

Exuse me?  I'm not being prude in any way, nor am I. And it was frivilous, there was no "relationship" it was simply a "talk to this person in these times to see this happen."  I never said it shouldnt be in games.  Fable had the right idea where you actually courted the person and were able to have children, but whether you had them or not was based on your decision to use protection.

Your accusations on my personality (of which you know nothing about) are insulting.  And I have not played those games nor do I have a desire to.  All I am saying is if you want just simple sex with no purpose or consequence then there are other places for that.

Dont try to attack me and make assumptions, it doesnt help your argument.

Such drama to such a silly question.

Perhaps the post really wasn't that serious? I took it as such.

And even if it were, maybe he meant something that would be well written and tasteful. I'd also like that... quite a bit, actually. To be honest, I'd definitely like to see some more features that isn't just combat-combat-combat-combat in TES.

It's because of that that some of the information coming out from Skyrim excites me greatly.

EDIT: fixing some late-night-induced atrocious grammar/spelling probs >.>

Eh. Assumptions? I think you've painted a picture well enough with your comments. No one said simple sex did they? That's a claim by you.

Bethesda is a great story telling company and can use any theme just as well as any other company. Their Elder Scrolls titles and their handling  of the Fallout series proves they're more than capable to approch any subject matter with taste. Associating it to "simple" anything just helps put a stigma on the genre.

It's only pointless if you think it's pointless and meaningful if it has meaning to you.

Actually I'd prefer a little sex in my games. Not hard core porn but something. For instnace, if getting married in skyrim only means having a roommate then "who cares".

See? one has meaning to me and one doesn't.

    Well that's yoru opinion.

And you are most certianly welcome to it.

My ideas of sex and sexuality might differ than others. As I mentioned above, if one gets married then one should be able to have sex. Otherwise what is the point? Children? nah, not interested.

As far as "other places for that", well again, that is opinion.

Look, different strokes for different folks. No pun intended.

After all, there is sex in movies. Technically you don't need to have it. Just show a wedding ring perhaps and the whole relationship is spelled out. Or, have a decently done sex scene and add some depth to that union.

    @Sovrath
I wouldn't mind God of War type of mini-game :D However, I mainly just want to be able to have kids in the game so I can have a mini-me following around swinging a big ass sword.

I whole heartedly support your vison and a good idea to boot!

that could also add a nice bit of depth in other ways.

Why do you want to be able to kill people in a video game.

I don't understand why people think Sex is bad, but murdering people is okay.

Heh. Try asking for non-combat features over at the official forums (like, say, the ability to play an instrument at taverns), and watch as you're flamed away for asking for something that doesn't directly affect combat.
