I have this burning need to find über gear and smash stuff right now, but the MMO's I've tried out think I'm interested in the lore and being a part of something by helping everyone out through quests etc. So are there any games out there that prioritize on improving your character instead of story and all that?
I'll have you know that I'm a perfectionist, so skipping the stuff I'm not interested in isn't an option.

Entropia Universe has almost no story and relies heavily on avatar skills and equipment. But you won't find any equipment on mobs. Almost all equipment is made by players. It's also 'free'. Well, the game is, the equipment isn't.
Hellgate might be what you are looking for, good game, lots of gear drops, lots of smashing stuff.
It is story driven, but essentialy you just pick up a quest for the area you would be going to anyway.
Just be aware of the seriously crappy server they have atm.

Thanks, I'll be checking it out.. Oh wait, you can't find equipment? I don't like making or buying gear

Yep, I enjoyed that game, and I probably would have played it till the end if I hadn't missed the fact that the guy who keeps following you actually comments about all the missions you play (you need to click on something to hear them). I couldn't handle the fact that I had missed everything he had said about the previous missions, so I stopped playing.
Were you talking about Hellgate London?
Yah, it re-launched as hellgate global.
In regards to the quests, the only ones you actualy have to read is the purple one, and that just progresses you through the game, all the others are "kill this, pick up that" quests which just give you more xp/items.
The best bit about it is the sheer amount of loot that drops, so much.
Maybe u could check out Sword 2. It has MCC 3 characters.. very good graphic for free game. Has stories whole game.

I'm pretty sure he said 'low learning curve'.
The biggest learning curve in EU is figuring out how to change your keyboard settings. Game play consists of pushing one or two keyboard buttons and then repeatedly pushing a mouse button. Most everything else depends on a modified random number generator.
Argo Online for when i just want quests to kill stuff and get drops.

One could be called finite, the other infinite.
A finite game is played for the purpose of winning,
an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."
