I've never played DF but I think I might try it out as long as there's going to be a clean slate.

It's going to be like a NGE, only the a change for the better hopefully, current owners or DF don't need to buy the game again as their account will become 2.0. There will be a community debate wipes to current playerbase assets or skills etc.

This seems to be the mose likely, but i have to wonder, why would anyone play right now?  You dont know if your items, skills, stats or money will be saved.  Hell, all of it could be wiped.  Im not going to resub until i get some more info and guessing the speed of patches we will still have these discussions in 2012-2013...

I know a lot of people don't view it this way, but at the end of the day everyone playing DF will quit it before they die most likely. Every hour you put in will be for nothing under your logic. You quit, everything you did in the game was a waste, or was it for the enjoyment? If you play to enjoy the game, then you aren't losing anything.

I know a lot of people have years of hard work that they don't want to redo, and that's what makes me oppose a wipe, I feel for those people. However, that doesn't mean there is 'no reason to play' because of the possibility of a wipe. I've heard more people wanting to just use the best possible gear and go kill as many people as they can before the reset.

Maybe these people should stop with Darkfall. Darkfall is a GAME and not a side job.

If they feel they have to WORK in Darkfall, this clearly isn't for them.

I enjoyed Darkfall for 1 1/2 years and never thought of it as a side job.

I explored the world, killed some interesting mobs with friends and robbed some random guys in the wild.

It was fun, it was enjoyable, but it was never ever like work for me.

GAMES are meant to make fun and relax... if they don't, then it's time to move on.

I would love it if this relaunch was a version of the game more similar to what was originally planned.  If they launched a version of the game with skill caps and racial alliances that were actually significant in some way I would play it in a heartbeat.  The only thing keeping me from playing Darkfall is the fact that everyone is working toward becoming the same character essentially.  When everyone has the same skills it basically becomes like counter strike: medieval with a long grind to get there.  I don't mind the grind, I've been playing MMOs for over a decade and grinding has always been an important part of MMOs for me.  If I could create a character that was truly different from the masses, maybe a different combination of skills than what some others use, I would happily grind to get there.  As long as the only thing differentiating characters is how long they've been built up the game will be out of my radar.  Give us something like the original concept for Darkfall and you'll have a lot of disgruntled players coming back.  The players who left to pursue games like Mortal, Xsyon, Dawntide and the rest would likely give Darkfall another shot if it was more like what they expected pre-release.

No.. I think you missed my point. People put in the hard work, because they enjoyed the game. It took years to get where they are, though. If you had 2 years of work you did taken from you, how would you feel about doing it over again? That's when it becomes "hard work".

"Games are meant to be fun and relax" - I disagree, they are meant to be fun, but I don't know about relaxing. I play games far too much to just "relax". When I want to relax I go gather ore and do some other stuff, but I wouldn't say that playing Darkfall while gathering is fun. Fun and relax is a console-mentality, lots of people play games to be competitive, and that is FAR from relaxing.

Racial alliances would be a good idea for sure. But AV shouldn't force people to play in a racial alliance, but support people, who want to do this.

A skill cap is a mixed blessing. It would definitely help to see different chars at the start, but will increase the so called "grind" after a few weeks. At the time people realize that they invested their skillpoints wrong, they will start raising the flavor of the month skills.

After each patch, which is balancing one or more skills, people will start unlearning some skills and raising others.

The way it is now, is the best to let people play the way they want to play. People can play what they want without the fear to unlearn or lock certain skills first. People can even play with "uncompetitive skills" just for fun and switch to competitve ones within a second.

Instead of a skillcap they should use armors to block and/or soften/strengthen certain skills to make different char builds useful.

I enjoyed Darkfall for 1 1/2 years. This can't be taken from me ( except maybe a shotgun ), because it is in my memory. The joy isn't something AV can take away. The fun i had, can be repeated every time with my friends and clanmates. The skills and equipment didn't make the fun, the people did. So AV can delete my char, skills, equipment, because i know, i can get it back, while having fun with my friends.

I really hope for you and your friends, that skilling and looting wasn't the fun for ya, because this would show me that your real life isn't the best. No offence, but being materialistic isn't the best thing in life.

First time around it might not be work, but doing it over again it could be. It wouldn't be to me, but not everyone is like me, OK? It's not too hard to understand. I couldn't really care less if they wipe or not, and I said that before, I just feel bad for the people who have played since release.

I agree it's the people, the immersiveness of Agon, etc. but that's not everyones thing, you know? I don't just look for how it benefits myself, but perhaps the entire community.

I want to end this discussion. You are right, that this isn't everyones thing and for sure not the entire community ones.

I accept this. I accept, that people are playing this game for different reasons, but it is still my opinion, that it is better to wipe the server. Loosing some of the people, who enjoy their skills and equipment would be better than loosing people, who enjoy to play with friends. These people will attract more new players in longterm. Those will give newbies a better "experience" so they stay and attract more players.

But the best thing would be for sure, if AV could strike a balance between wipe and no wipe. Maybe a wipe, with skills changed in meditation points and equipment changed in gold. That could satisfy the most people...

However, i hope they (re)release Darkfall 2.0 soon.

Currently not subbed to DFO but AV is about the slowest gd MMO company on the face of the planet. Not planning to re-sub until they finally get off their asses and release "DFO 2010"... Only then will they earn my $15 a month

I've never played DF but I think I might try it out as long as there's going to be a clean slate.

It doesnt matter.  In a few days you can survive to vet players.  In a few weeks you can kill vet players.  No reason to have a clean slate.

    are you kidding?

not even the god of pvp himself could be on pair with vets in a few days!:(

maybe in some months, grinding like mad...or more if playing

Skill caps won't work. It will still force people to use the exact same build as everyone else. There will be one build that surpasses all and that is the build everyone will use.

Uhhhh ok if you say so since you have so much factual proof backing your argument.

you are right but AV stated a lot of times they are against a skill cap.

Haven't they also stated they are against a wipe and now look where we are? Also what they have stated in the past has nothing to do with what players in general would do if a skill cap was implemented.
