Sony Online Entertainment has announced DC Universe Online: Fight for the Light, the first downloadable content for DC Universe Online.

"Fight for the Light" will introduce new Green Lantern themed content to the game, including the new Light powerset, as well as the ability for players to create their own Lantern-themed heroes and villains.

Several new gameplay scenarios will also be included with the DLC, details below:

S.T.A.R. Labs – Deep within S.T.A.R Labs, Brainiac seeks to control experimental devices that will allow him to harness the power source behind the Lantern Corps’ rings. This attack throws the Lantern Corps into chaos, and players must join a fragile truce between the Green and Yellow Lantern Corps to bring the powerful devices back under STAR Labs control.

Coast City – Players must battle their way through the “City Without Fear” to Ferris Aircraft, the home of fighter ace Hal Jordan. Here they face the unbridled rage of the Red Lantern Corps in a showdown to save the city and the Universe.

Sciencells Prison – On the Green Lantern Corp’s home planet Oa, heroes will join with Guy Gardner to stop a prison break that threatens to release the most feared prisoners of the Green Lantern Corps.  Villains will fight alongside Sinestro as he attempts to release the Green Lantern Corps’ greatest foes and retrieve the evil Lyssa Drak from her emerald powered prison cell.

DC Universe Online: Fight for the Light will be available later this summer for $9.99 on both the PC and PlayStation 3.

I'm glad I stopped playing this game. Considering the lack of content in DCUO, they should be giving this content away for free. I could understand them charging the 9.99 *IF* the game had alot of content comparable to other MMO's but it doesn't even come closs. I think I'd much rather stick with City of Heroes/Villains to be honest. $OE is showing it's true colors once more.

Before launch they spoke of monthly content updates, after launch we barely got anything close, ok fair enough it was a lot to expect, so people let it go, but now they want to charge for content? In a game thats struggling content wise as it is with a premium subscription?

this is shambles, I remember in the beta S.T.A.R Labs was a doable alert, which they removed when the game went live.

Heck theres still achievements ingame that require you to do S.T.A.R and now they want too charge you for it? LOL no thank you.

They don't have to sell the rights at all. With the employees at SOE itself is nothing wrong!

They need to can the incompetent suits in the top, starting with Smedley!, who have been running this company in the ground for years now!

Every management decision since after SWG's release has been a dissaster!

Every single other company would have fired such an incompetent CEO long long ago. But somehow at SOE a CEO like that can just continue on and on.

Totally baffles me beyond belief! /shrug

The game should be free to play, with microtransactions for content updates. I cant believe they are charging on top of a monthly fee... theres not enough content in the game as it is.

Pity for those of you that enjoy the game.  This is sort of an all too common tune played by SOE, though.

    Typical SOE

    • Monthly content updates.... not even bi-monthly updates at this point

    • "BIG" quarterly updates.... never to be seen

    • Massive exploits.... linger for months unaddressed

    • Game break bugs and system locks.... also left lingering for far to long

    • Mega-Server-Mergers.... still no target date after months and months of players begging for mergers.

What has SOE had time to prioritze instead of the features they promise and priority problems that need to be resolved?

    • Cash shop.

    • Mini DLC content packs for a real life cash fee

I feel bad for DCU players, but they had to see this coming.

brbrq, adding "SoE" right under "NCsoft" on my 'to avoid' list.

We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

Damn glad I got into beta and didn't pay out for this. Thought the whole 'monthly updates' thing was too good to be true and now they're adding paid stuff? Unbelievable!

The really impressive thing about SOE strategy is that they are essentially asking the players for more money to play DCU via the cash shop and this new adventure pack strategy.

All the while their direct competition is moving towards the free to play model.

Didn't this adventure pack on top of a subscription fee with a cash shop model already crash and burn with EQ2?

  • TwwIXTwwIX Member Posts: 203

Wow! What a slap in the face. I feel sorry for those who got duped into buying a lifetime subscribtion.

SOE continues to reach new lows.

This is a console mmo. for all those wondering at the costs etc. its made for playstation not pc. yes i know u can get it and play it on a pc but the design and use of it is for button mashers.

Considering this content was meant to be there at release they should not be charging for it, but as so many of you said its $OE.

  • pfloydguy84pfloydguy84 Member UncommonPosts: 149

LMAO isn't this a sub mmo?I thought you payed 15 a month for this already. How can they charge for content updates in a p2p mmo?people are really willing to pay 50-60 bucks for the game+15 a month+10 bucks for updates?

Wow they make some of the worse MMO companys(Free MMO companys) look like great almighty devs.

I really like the whole super hero thing and im a huge fan of superman and batman and the flash.I had high hopes for this game,im happy i didnt buy it and waited it out to see how things would turn out.SOE is a terrible company they're going to sell this game to a free company like RealWorld did with APB.Hopefully the next company picks it up and runs with it.

You would've thought that SOE would've learnt something from Cryptic's exact same mistake. Cryptic did.

  • gadunkgadunk Member UncommonPosts: 164

this game was doomed the second DC let SOE get their paws on it.

    ^This and This^ and ^This! Oh and did I mention ^This!

Can someone please tell me where the, 'How to be a Stupid, Stubborn Jackass and Run Your Company into the Ground While Getting Paid For It' line begins?

Oh, what's that you say?...The postiion is currently occupied! Darn it!...By who?

    John Smedley!

    Who's he?

The Stupid, Stubborn Jackass Running His Company into the Ground While Getting Paid For It! That's Who!

Oh, well! Better luck next time, I guess.

Serioulsy though, can someone please tell me what good this guy has done for SOE? Anyone?

    *Hears sounds of crickets chirping*

I'm sorry to sound so harsh, but this content was supposed to be in the game at release but the devs couldn't get the 'light powers' right, so now they are charging for this?! Are you kidding me?!

I'm sorry, but I'm furious. What is wrong with the jerks running this company?

I really can't help but wonder if Smedley is secretly getting paid by another MMO company to tank SOE!

I was still patiently on the fence in regards to the Lifetime Sub, quietly waiting to see what transpired and now this. I love the DC Universe and all things Green Lantern, but I'm no fool. I'll keep my $200 thanks!

I don't know what's more despicable. This crap that SOE is pulling or the delusional circlejerk of fanboys that are defending this business practice on the official forums.

  • YamotaYamota Member UncommonPosts: 6,593

Wait, this game is not F2P and they are charging people for adding content? Isnt that what the monthly fee is supposed to be for?!

Baffles me that people are still playing this game or any game from SOE...

The same apologists defending this game made for the console when PC users were complaining about the UI since beta?   Yep ... those ones.  "Anything but Wow ... Anything but Wow ... learn something different, n00b!"    Yeah, ok, fanboy.   There's a reason Wow isn't free to play, you morons.   The sad thing for these guys is that the game will die a slow death, subscriptions dwindling until they just turn it off.  They won't even get the CHANCE to go F2P because of how ignorant SOE is to reality.

DCUO isn't a bad game. It has potential. I went back for my 45 free days and it looks like they've finally added all of the UI functionality that should have been in at launch. There's just not many people playing the game at all.

I logged on the test server and saw like 5 people. I actually saw the most people on Virtue and Vice, a PvE server.

I knew that the PvP servers would be ghost towns a month or so after release... and they are. What happened? Why is it like this?

You could blame the rushed released, but that's not it. You could even blame the slow pace that content trickles out, but that's not it either. So what killed DCUO? The players killed DCUO.

It never ceases to amaze how players will flock to any glitch/exploit they can find and use it ad nauseum until it gets addressed. You had to see this coming. DCUOs community, for the most part, was absolutely horrible on the PC. I don't know how it was or is on the PS3 servers, but on the PC servers, the community ran the game into the ground and then cried foul and started blaming the developers.

Now they're trying to pick of the pieces and recoup their losses. They spent years of their lives working on this game to have a bunch of Timmies run in and ruin as many other people's fun as they could possibly manage and in turn chase most everyone away.

Should they be charging for the new content? No.

If they wanted to seriously recoup their losses they would purge every single glitch/exploit/"cancel" from the game and then turn around and release the content for free, while simultaneously offering a free week as a trial for all players.

The megaserver set up is pretty cool. You use a concole in your faction's base to switch from PvE to PvP. If they can find away to bring people back once those go live then I think the game has a shot at making a come back, but they definitely aren't going to bring people back like this.

I want to address this comment about  the DCUO PC community. We did have lots of gripes. First, the PS3 side was getting disks that didn't require you to pay or key in your CC info. When I bought the game, I bought one for me(PC) and one for my friend(PS3). He told me that he has not paid a dime for this game yet. Also, on Ebay, when I tried to buy another PS3 copies lots the sellers were telling me that I didn't need a code to play.

This is why the PS3 side is so much happier because their playing the game for free!!!!!

I love that the dev's said they couldn't make the light powers work at launch, but they CAN get them to work JUST IN TIME for the release of the Green Lantern movie? What a stroke of LUCK! /sarcastic tone.

I was SO hyped about this game, but I couldn't get it at launch. While I had my enforced wait the reviews came in and I rethought my purchase. I don't know who to thank for my timely rescue, but I owe them my life, plus the Box Price.

Gotta admit though, SOE have got some serious balls to be able to even THINK UP this kinda scam, let alone roll it out.
