I never understood the appeal of Transformers as a kid, and I despise the Bay movies as an adult, but for some reason, this project interests me. Professional help is being sought.

I'm worried about this myself. I've been begging for a TF MMO for years, but I'm scared to death that this is going to be ruined. I wrote a long opinion on a TF fansite with plenty of ideas on what could be done a bit a ago. Done right this will be awesome, wrong and it'll be yet another failed TF game.
i already see massive imbalance issues. everyone and their mother will be playing flying transformer specced into ranged dps build.
One little problem. Jets can't stop in mid-air to aim. If they miss, they have to circle around and make themselves vulurnable to an attack from the rear. That's why aircraft carry bombs to attack ground targets most of the time. They just have to be close. Cars would have much more maneuverability and more importantly, they can stop without stalling. Unless the jet has enough firepower to bring down buildings at will, a car will be better in an urban environment.
"Oh but what about helicoptors?" you'll probably point out. You shoot the blades or tail and it comes crashing down.
"Keep shooting, eventually, you're bound to hit something." Misfire
I'm not sure about this one. Sounds like a random game based on a movie or super hero... batman arkham asylum was a great game tho, but so many games like harry potter or spiderman were just there to be there and didn't really have any ambition... not sure what's going to be behind that!
they probably won't use that level of realism for the flyers, with the jets they might go like ace online where you can stop in midair (not even moving even though the thrusters are clearly still active made no sense to me so i hope they won't go that route) and they probably aren't going to have parts break off when shot so that people don't end up avoiding helicopters/any other vehicle with a similar weakness altogether
anyways i think this is gonna be a disappointment to alot of people either way. the reason? last part of the interview "anything you can imagine a 30 foot robot doing will be in this game". i seriously doubt thats going to be true, i'm probably just being cynical, but the amount of stuff people will probably think up vs what will actually go into the game? odds are the former will be larger then the latter.
The key phrases to keep in mind...13+..Mass Appeal..Browser based game...accessible to the social and casual gamer.
These alone give me a good idea of what the game will be like. It still might be o.k. but I doubt this will peak my interest too much.
My bets...it will be primarly instance based quest leveling with specific chassis to pick from. The customization will be primarily cosmetic and I bet at some point they play with a free to play/cash shop model where you have to buy the ability to custom configure different things onto your bot and the graphics will be of a cartoony nature(which I dont personally mind so much).
They will add a pvp of sorts after enough people moan and whine for it...most likely in a battleground type of environment.
you just know that this is going to be one of those F2P browser games, i think the 13+ rating might be a bit too high though.. it might preclude most of their fanbase from playing !!
Jagex browser games are all relatively poor graphics, so i'm a bit disappointed at them getting the nod to work the IP. I'll probably still give it a try, but i would have preferred a full client based game for TF instead.
i think the sad thing is that more people have heard of transformers than they have Robotech. .. as the Robotech story is vastly superior, and..... makes a hell of a lot more sense than the giant robot that turns into a car thing.. reflex is one thing, battloid/guardian etc.. but.. dumpster turns into a 90 ft robot.. .. i don't think so...
Folks above have already covered most of the bases so how about this? What kind of cost will go with the copyright requirements for (GM,FORD,BMW,PORCHE, LEXUS, CADDIE, XIL ETC..)
Size, well, transformers already change from roughly 1 ton cars to multi-story(ton) vehicles. Most likely have a wide range of classic and modern styles but no name brands - too expensive (I am old and want a black Trans-AM like the Bandit). Movement and combat upgrades for leveling and size upgrates(and styles - vehicle types) for level increases. City/country roads for standard vehicles (large zones) and instanced areas for combat. Transforming is the biggest deal for animations. Flight models will depend on basic game engine, may or may not be in launch. Vanity changes or skins will be a mainstay so might be F2P w/shop. Most likely B2P w/shop to take advantage of IP recognition.
I don't know many Transformer fans myself, young or old so it might be nice to hear from some who know more about the IP than me. Casual interest here as I enjoyed the movies, mostly for special effects. As a game designer (retired - I am old) it would be interesting to come up with the other aspects of MMOs such as crafting and PvP. Any others with ideas?

i think robotech would be a better mmo

If this game is even average quality it will be my new game...
I hope developers run with the old IP idea. I wanna see a thundercats and He-man mmo lol!!!
