I would guess you don't have a keylogger but instead a weak password and no authenticator. As WoW is the big dog, they are subject to more attacks and an easy password doesn't take long to break especially since Blizz doesn't have a timeout for too many attempts (AFAIK).

My account was stolen quite a while ago while it was inactive.  I came back briefly right after Cataclysm and added an authentircator to my account.  My account was only active for a month late last year, but since I added the authenticator, my account has been hack free.  I too have had waaaaaaaaaaaay too many MMO accounts and game accounts, never had a problem except for WoW.  It's just a really popular game.

Because Blizzard makes money of it.

I had an account get hacked a number of times after it was inactive. Blizzard was always good about announcing to me that if I kept trying to sell my inactive account that they would ban it. The account still continues to get moved around and Blizzard endlessly threatens to ban it, which they ahve never done. I have many, many emails (over 20) threatening to ban the account and it never happens. The only possible explanation is that Blizzard is making some money from it.

Gaming since Avalon Hill was making board games.

Played SWG, EVE, Fallen Earth, LOTRO, Rift, Vanguard, WoW, SWTOR, TSW, Tera
Tried Aoc, Aion, EQII, RoM, Vindictus, Darkfail, DDO, GW, PotBS

First off aunthenticators are a poor excuse for poor security.I have played FFXi off/on for the 7+ years and i have actually never even heard of anyone getting their account hacked.I would say more likely than not, most of the people deserve it,they are probably out looking for cheats/hacks or rmt activity such as buying or powerleveling. The rest of the legit people are just victims opf Blizzard and their poor operating standards.

My guess and of course it is only a guess, however i am assuming that Blizzard sells information to advertisers, who you can never be positive, they are not cheats, crooks. So Blizzard  being too lazy passes the buck onto the customer, telling everyone to get an authenticator.

Here is my take,Myself nor anyone NEEDS their game,if they cannot shore up proper security at THEIR cost then don't play their game, period, that will send the message loud and clear.I guarantee that if everyone cancelled their accounts, there would be no more excuses or passing the buck,Blizzard would take care of it ..pronto.Keep paying them money like you don't really care, then Blizzard won't care either, simple as that.

If you don't have an authenticator, your account is free game for the hackers. I know it seems pretty effed up, but that's just the way it is: spend the 6.50 to protect your account from hackers.

Never got hacked on WoW. Not using a... what was it called... that identify thingy either. You don't need it when you know how to keep the information to yourself, a password secure and your computer clean.

WoW attracts many players who don't know how to keep information safe and secure, and how to avoid virii, keylogger and the like. In addition, a lot of the WoW players are very greedy. If someone messages them "congratulations, you won the awesome super great flying mount. Go this website and login" they do so. Or the "hey I can't attend the raid, can you do that for me? Here is my password" people. Or the "download this addon to deal 10 times as much damage" people. Or the... you can go on and on and on.  In short: it's the fault of the players who can't keep their stuff secure.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Because there are more hackers here than in any other MMO constantly trying to hack your account. Just like how there's more viruses in Windows compared to Mac, it has nothing to do with the OS's security systems themselves, but that since 90% of the world uses Windows, the grand majority of hackers will target windows OS.

a lot of these emails are probably fake, i get them all the time. Emails from blizzard saying my account was used to hack, to has been hacked, or whatever and if i dont "contact" them my account will be banned. The truth is, they email this to an address i never once used for WoW, so they are just spammers randomly sending these emails realizing they have a good chance the person might have a WoW account, panic, and "give them there logon info".

If you had read fully you would have seen that I am getting notices on an inactive account. An account which has not been active in over 2 years. I don't bother to respond or click any links as I haven't played WoW in a couple of years nor do I have any intention of doing so in the future.

Yes. Scammers create a email address that is [email=noreply@blizzard.com] and link to us.blizzard.com, which then redirects instantly to whatever their site is called.

From the Battle.net forums itself on phising emails:

As several people have already pointed out, sending an email with a reply address of @blizzard.com is extremely simple, you don't even need to use the fake mailer site that someone linked above, most email clients allow you to specify a different return address other than the one you are sending from.

    3. Blizzard will never threaten you with account suspension or say that they suspect you of anything. If there is evidence that you have broken a rule or policy, they WILL suspend you, then email you to tell you that you are suspended with details of how to appeal.

Another possibility is that the emails aren't from Blizzard.  I get  quite a few "We have noticed that you are trying to sell your account ... blah blah blah  ... you must go to this link (somelink) and verify your account ownership or your account is subject to be banned.   and more bla bla bla.

These emails are not from Blizzard (Look at the email header .... it is not shown by default by most email programs .... in yahoo mail there is a small link at the bottom of the email on the right that says "show fulll headers") and you will find that though on the email it says it comes from blizzard ... that in reality it comes from happyphish@gmail.com  or some thing like that.  The link takes you to a fake blizzard page where they want you to enter your username and password (etc) to save your account from being banned.  I really doubt if these guys know if your account is active or not.

If you think an email is really from blizz (tho it prolly isnt) then give blizzard cust service a call and ask them whats up instead of clicking the link.

I have deleted at least 50 of these "we are gonna ban you' emails and wow...... I'm not banned.  The reason wow is such a big target is because gold farmers make so much money from the asshats who buy gold.

edit: woops did not notice all the others that have pointed out this same thing ... sorry for being repetitious ... but after all that typing i ain't gonna delete it .... /lol

Often times they will link to the actual battle.net site in some locations in order for you to think it's valid. But where you have to "confirm" your account is where the phising link comes into play.

Again, Blizzard will never, ever, notify you if they think any suspicious activity is happening on your account. They'll lock it/suspend it/ban it, and notify you henceforth.

The "noreply" emails are all fake. I haven't had an active WoW account for years and i still get them. I emailed them and my email headers to blizzard support a few times and finally asked them if i could just somehow delete my WoW account permanently as  would never be playing the game again i don't care about it. Finally after a few times of that they locked the account. I still get the emails but few and far between.

I have played WoW off and on since it's release and never had my account hacked before. Well until right after I bought Cataclysm Expansion I received an e-mail that looked legit with a blizzard e-mail address domain (probably spoofed) saying my password was changed and had a link to Battle.net. I clicked the link and the page looked the same as the battle.net sign in and tried to sign in but it wouldn't let me. I didn't realize until after that the website was a fake as I browsed to the link to battle.net I had favorited and was able to log on then promptly changed my password.

Even after I changed my password my account still somehow managed to get hacked. I used game time cards and my card already ran up when they broke into it and did whatever they did as I got an e-mail from Blizzard stating my account was banned. I e-mailed blizzard customer support to explain the situation, but they never got back in contact with me and the ticket was closed.

This pretty much ended my interest in WoW and I have no desire to buy the game and all the expansions over again after my experience.
