(POLL) Do you old guys start to find young people annoying?

ElikalElikal Member UncommonPosts: 7,912

It's something I started to realize, much to my own horror. I got 40 just two months ago, and I started to feel that younger people annoy the living hell outta me. Like - I can't stand most of them. They are loud, aggressive, pushy, lacking politeness... EVERYTHING our parents and grandparents said! Quite shocking for me. I mean, I always was a liberal person, I read comics, I play computer games; so by lifestyle I am no old fashioned person at all. Still... there is something in those people below 29, I JUST CANNOT STAND! It wasn't just overnight, but by and by.

So I wonder: do you other older guys feel the same?

This poll is, apparently, only for those a bit on the older side. ;)

People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert

It's like everyone I hated in high school grew up, had a few kids and passed on that gene to every single one of them.  Meanwhile everyone I was frineds with decided to wait and settle down to support a family later in life.  I'm sure there are some decent "kids" out there, but I have yet to know one personally.

Yes. They all seem to be whiny little emo bitches (boys included).

I'm not in the "older" category quite yet, but I would like to point out that I found my own generation to be juvenile and annoying when still in high school myself. I kept wanting to yell at them to shut up and grow up. That feeling has only gotten worse since.

I am over 40 but I can say that I agree with this. I haven't seen anything change with age as the same young punks that annoy the crap out of me today are the same types that annoyed the crap out of me when I was 20. You just seem to notice it more as you get older.

yes, i find most people who are more than 8yrs younger than i to be annoying. i cannot stand them. i'm currently going to school for something real neat. i'm at a school funded housing unit. many of the "children" here have never been out beyond their parent's house. the childish antics i see here make me shake my head. yet they wonder why they're always being picked on by the armed security gaurds and receiving poor marks in school, and in some cases, kicked out.

in general, most children aren't raised to have manners. many of them were raised by "parents" who'd rather be a friend. it shows. seeing the generations below me, i fear for the future of my country.

Noticed the same thing, though i'm not exactly old/older. Something to point out though is that this older generation that the young kids annoy is the generation that raised mine. Who is really to blame? The annoying kids, or the annoyed adults who raised the kids.

I think Bren got it right.  The pool of annoying people gets larger as you grow older.  When you are in your 20's you're looking at your peers and slightly younger in judging ass-hattery.  In your 30's, you are looking at all of the 20-somethings.  By the time you are over 40, you have an even larger pool of people to look at as "younger".  So, as you get older, (obviously) the pool of "younger" ass-hats gets larger, resulting in more annoyance.

Bottom line is, it's just your perspective, not that the number of actual ass-hats has increased in any single age group.

They act like they know everything. Now I realize what a retarded little bastard I was. Old people really do know a lot of stuff. It took me getting old to understand this. How much farther in life would I be had I just listened and not thought I knew it all and had the answer for everything?

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

Oh great, I got started early, so apparently I get to look forward to being annoyed by everyone not significantly older than me...

Who will in turn find me annoying...

    I 48 and I hate old people.

I find most of them rude, expect you to hand them everything, and most of all, they love to gamble.  Casinos are loaded with them spending there Social Security, and their lined up is the quick marts getting their lottery tickets.  On top of all that they never retire and in most cases they are useless in the work place.

Wisdom my butt.  They may have a thing or two on people under 25 but for the most part I don't see this great wisdom

The following is a quote often attributed to Socrates, but is more commonly associated with Plato. Still, an interesting perspective on youth from ancient Greece.

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

They annoy me at daily basis! When you listen to them talking, often they just sound like mentally challenced people.

Its like people that just have begun to think, and they do it wrong!

Does it matter if they are old or young ? I think that it does not. Just look at this forum for example, they have always struggled with this community and resolved to major communist-socialist behavior (very common on the internet) to control people's opinions. For example if you have a raw opinion they call you a troll. Then people flag you because they cannot handle the truth. I think the internet as a whole has always been a big powertrip, reflecting our reality very well. People like to control other's opinions , and mask em if it's too raw.

I commented yesterday in an anti-wow thread and gave my opinion, and got a warning for it for trolling. I said that wow was to gaming what religion is to the world, a lie, a joke, a cancer. If we are not allowed to voice our opinions no matter how raw they are , what is the point of a discussion board ? I think that filtering and censorship is a big problem in this world , but people always enjoyed the powertrip to control them. No matter if people are young or old, i think the major annoying people are folks who cant handle the truth, flag your comment , and act all carebear about someone's opinion. Opinions are like ass holes, everyone has one, and it's not always pretty , but that's part of the world.

    Hey,

Well, yes i think it matters if "they" are old or young. Its the cicle of life. The experience makes the wise. I Never lived on other generation (forget ressurection) but i think that all the youth generation will be more prone to make mistakes, afterall we are just discovering. Also, we pass trough many stages, we are trying to find our path. So ye, in that way i agree that youth people can be more unstable.

Anyhow, we are all humans (i guess) so everyone makes mistakes, and is sometimes more stupid or kinder or whatever. (of course?) Adults have the right to enter stupidolandia, once and a while.

Also, there is the education our parents give us. Not allways, but often how we are educated is the way we will coexist with other people. And i talk by what i see, parents often dont know to educate their children. So, what i am saying is that, probably, when you see a kid acting stupid, maybe you should ask what have the parents been doing rather than asking if youth kids are annoying or something like that. Making any sense so far?

Ok now to the anti wow thread thing. RR.. patience nowadays. People just dont have it.  " I said that wow was to gaming what religion is to the world, a lie, a joke, a cancer."  well, in my opinion, that aint no trolling. And no, they aren´t trying to cut your voice or anything. You can have your opinion, its just you cant say it how you want. Even tho you dont believe on religion (for example) there is other people that believe. You have to show some respect, and aswell to fundament that statement. I can pick a theme and say whatever i want about it, but no one takes it serious if i dont fundament it properly or if i am disrespectful.

And i tell you, to me, that statement aint 100% false(imo) [Besides the fact that it´s a fallacy]. But thats other talk, wich is uncalled to this thread.

And well, "Opinions are like ass holes, everyone has one, and it's not always pretty , but that's part of the world." Well, we dont actually need to show our ass holes to everybody, do we?

by the way, im 18 years old.

Old people bother me just as much as young people.  The old people have lost touch with the times and think what they know is still applicable to the modern days.  They can't drive, and get in my way.

The young people on the other hand have the attention span of a gold fish.  They can't seem to focus on anything worth a damn.  Their minds are never on the task and they're always busy thinking about their damn facebook status, how many people they'll "pwn" when they get home and onto their computer, or what color nail polish they are going to use later that day.

In the end all I want is for you people to FOCUS!  and get out of my way!

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
