Probably Warcraft. It's a shame to see how far that game fell in such a short length of time. I remember when all the cities (except SMC and Exo) were full of people and you always saw people out in the world. Now, You may see a handful of people in SW and a handful doing the dailies.
I'd play SWG even though it's not nearly as great as it once was, just because there is still nothing quite like it out there. While I'm excited for SWTOR, it's still a pity to see it shut down.
I would play Vanguard if more people played and if SOE would do something with it other than just sit back and watch it die.
Wow, I think the real lesson here is that even if a game has great potential, SOE will run it into the ground without remorse.
champions online, I know 25% of the people that do the instance runs I do at level 40
my point is.... I've meet allot of familiar faces during the end game dungeons since they can only be done once per dungeon a day u usually get into the same people as yesterdays run.... sadly...
"If more people played, then we would play! And SOE would put resources into it!" Um . . . you ARE the people. You can't put the cart before the horse. Why would a game company support an almost empty game thinking, "gee all these people will totally come play it if we pour resources into it."
No you won't play it. That's why it flopped, it sucked then, it sucks now, and not even the people who talk about how great it is want to play it. Your words don't make money. You want more games like vanguard? Then support them while they iron out their kinks, don't abandon them and then say, "Well if only they did ____ they wouldln't be failing."
Next time you see a game you like, give them money.

Like I said earlier, its a chicken and egg situation. You maybe correct, or people may need to see investment in a game before they are prepared to spend their valuable time and cash on it.

EQ1, FFXI, or Vanguard. Kinda hoping FFXIV picks up some more people too, it's actually turning out to be quite a good game (depending on your tastes). It has a long way to go though, so we'll see.

There is alot of truth is what you say. Another truth is that many mmo's aren't much fun without enough players. And finally, there seems to be too many in games I like that seem to hate being there and try their best to ruin it for everyone else. I'm also old.

heh. me too. I dont pay $15/month toplay single-player rpg's, in addition.

They released game way TOO EARLY. It was bugged like hell, bad performance, exploits , not good support (long time to patchs bugs , GM's could not handle bots ,etc). Sorry but if you want people to play your game - game has to be finished and suport has to be good.
It is developer/publisher fault with Vanguard , many people bought game and subscribed but quickly left because product they bought was faulty with clearly not chance to reasonably quick fix , not becasue of features which were great but becasuse of technicalities.

"They released the game too early!". I can't remember the last game I didn't hear that complaint. Goes with 'Not enough endgame content' and many others....
I've been tempted time and time again to return to Dark Age of Camelot. I had left after the Trials of Atlantis expansion had been released. I just can't see myself going back though.
If there is an MMO that I wish they would seriously revamp graphically, but maintain most of the elements of, it would be Ultima Online. No other MMO has delved so deeply into the "sandbox" MMO genre, carrying over so many of the beloved traits of it's single player RPG counterparts.
I had hoped that Ultima X was going to be the answer to this, but sadly it was cancelled and never saw the light of day.
UO was the premiere MMO that brought so many things to the genre that still resound today, like; crafting systems, skill development, in-game mounts, armor dyes, PVP, player-housing, and the list goes on.
I'd love to see Ultima Online get some much needed polish, and re-emerge as the ultimate MMO experience.

Had you played Vanguard at release? It was most bugged , unfinished and terrible supported mmorpg release amongst big titles I experienced. Really I am beign honest here. It was no secret that developers had run out of money but well really this release did not give game ANY chance.
Look at Rift - medicore game at best and I dont like personally Rift it for many reasons(I did try it). But many people I talk with , play it or played it just becasue "it worked out of box" , no big bugs, very good support and this is one of best known thing about Rift (apart of it beign WoW clone) , even people who don't like Rift admit it.
So content you can add or change, but if your game has severe performance issues, hangs or crash during gameplay, player experience bugs during gameplay and you don't to a thing to stop cheaters and gold farmers - game is doomed. You cannot recreate what is lost on first impression.
It's pretty good now. lol Main problem has been no dev work on it for at least a year, and not knowing if it will be online tomorrow or in a year from now. Or if it will have devs a year from now.

Think it is even since 2009 no updates, I can be wrong thou. I know currently game is in good state , that many things are fixed, some content was added ,etc, but let's be honest it is too late. Even if they start pouring updates again it is way too late, they won't be able to attract enough new players.
There is too big of a 'stink' following this game and besides uncertainity - many ppl won't go play it cause they are concerned that even if SOE will invest some money in it who will guarantee that they won't stop updating it again in few months.
Heard some people prposing f2p model for Vanguard, but imho too big percentage of potential customers would not want to play it as f2p. I might have wrong impression of course. But I am certain I would not play game like Vanguard as f2p.
Item shop would imo ruin those aspects of game I find most appealing in games like Vanguard.
They really should let it die and put former Vanguard team into making another good game this time polished at release.
Everyone always says they would play Vanguard if it had enough population, myself included. It's funny because if everyone did that it would be populated!

I was playing until the player lockout because of the security breach. I don't think I can go back after that no matter how much I loved VG.

Asherons call no question. Don't care how the gfx look..
