I've been reading their boards for the past couple of days, and from what players are saying it's nowhere near ready. They have buildings in right now that still don't do anything at all (functionality not developed yet), and all sorts of other half finshed stuff. They're also working on a complete combat overhaul. Way too early to start charging people. Seige combat will not be in until after release. Mounts will not be in until after release. Someone in the forums said about half the world still isn't populated with mobs.
I will probably still check it out while it's still in beta, but I'm done paying for half finished games without an obvious future.

I have played a bit of the open beta and the only reason I haven't played more is that I have problems talking with NPC's, like accessing shops and I really have no patience for such basic things not working. I haven't played in a couple of weeks so I might go back, though I have to agree Dawntide is nowhere near release standard yet, maybe in time one of these small indie developers will nail it, I don't think Dawntide is going to change that but their business plan to give the client away for 10 days trial and then you only have to subscribe is definitely a plus, good luck to them.

Very bad move on their part, I play around beta every few months to see what they've changed and am always underwhelmed. The game right now has less content that the disastrous releases of other indie games such as Mortal online and more recenetly Earthrise, and if you look at those games right now they're struggling badly to keep going.
I glanced at the roadmap and its visible how much work needs to be done, if they pull it off more power to them.
This really sucks because I was thinking wow this could be my game for a long, long time! But after witnessing game after game release early and then die, I have to say my money is on death, which means it's pointless to put any time into this thing at all. 'Playing for the possibility of what it CAN be' is so 2007.

Someone actually has to care about an MMORPG before it gets listed on this site, and the staff doesn't always take the initiative to add one.

does Guild Wars apply to this rule
The game should have the capability to support at least 500 congruent users on a single server. This is not a reflection of the game's current subscriber count, but rather reflects the capabilities of a game's technology.
Very good concept for an MMO but the state of this game is underwhelming.
Yeah this is pretty much my opinion on Dawntide, it has a tone of potential and the team has improved the game ten fold during open beta but, the main aspects that would attract a solid community are still lacking such as PVE which they have improved but is still very buggy, when i log in i usually see a million ships along shore as well due to some apparent bug (player made ships).
I may play this as its very close to UO and is a true sandbox, but open beta makes me think 3-6 months is prob a good amount of tiem to start playing after release.
I did try the beta and it was pretty awful. I did like what I read as far as the direction they were going in and I hope they actually get it finished before they release it. Bad launches can certainly be the death of a game.
While I voiced concerns on their forums to the developers about the readiness of the game for release, if they deliver on their roadmap plan they have posted, the release will be successful. I honestly think they might have to delay the release to make it work, though, but I don't know how far along they are in development that hasnt been put into the beta client yet, either.
I've been in open beta for a while now, I have maxed out characters and I've enjoyed the game immensely. I have high hopes for Dawntide despite my reservations for release.

Still don't understand why there isn't a Dawntide section here on MMORPG.com???

I'm not sure either. They've had an accessible website available for a long time, and it's definitely an MMO.
Perhaps it's impending release will prompt them to start a Dawntide section.

Likely they don't meet (or haven't bothered to submit) one or more of the requirements listed in the sites FAQ.

That would probably explain why it's not here. Perhaps it'll eventually be added.
