Most players dont care about the stupid monocle.

Only the haters on this forum and disgruntled minority on Eve-O bring the damn thing up all the time.

THe majority are loving the game and its proven by the activity being even higher after the so called "mass exodus" after the micro transaction memo was leaked.

Not sure if this is a serious post but the above is true just like real-life battles.

If you have a fleet of 100 ships and the opposition brings a fleet of 300 of the same ships then you'll lose.

Course if you bring 100 Death Stars while the opp brings 300 pea-shooters you'll win as well.

The big story about this article though is that PL decided to do something really dumb and DC had the execution needed to exploit it.

    EvE is a War simiulation.

In WAR numbers are a big part of winning. If you want small scale even matches you have a ton of games to play other than EVE.

Numbers and good tactics (and sneakiness).  Just like in the real world.  Its too bad that CCP has decided to take the path that they have. Before this, I'd always considered them to be a stand up company.

as for the rumoured Exodus from Eve.. it only counts as an Exodus if they actually leave the game.. ie.. stop playing it..  its easy to de-bunk those rumours just by looking at the number of people online in the game at the login screen, CCP don't hide player numbers, i've no doubt members of the tinfoil hat brigade are probably going to suggest that CCP puts false numbers there though..

... not a big fan of the goons personally.. but.. have to say..  would have been fun to have been there and a part of it...  sounds like they outmanouvered and in so doing.. out-gunned their opponents..  .. well played, and some outstanding organisational abilities there!

I used to love this game, until they had multiple bugs after the Incarna and refused to admit it. Their Customer Service is the worst in the industry.

They Literly called me a liar and stupid in one of their responses and it took a month to get to a resolution. Which of course finished my account off.

This game is good but never count on good customer service.

I was there.  Not during the first battle, but I was there.  The newb pilot in a rifter with no clue what to do.  I watched as they advanced in a reverse direction out of VFK.

    I was there.

I just want to throw my two cents into the ring and tell the author that this was a fantastic article.  I think he captured a lot of the unfolding drama in a way that makes me want to give Eve another try.  The fact that some people still had the nerve to criticize the article just tells you that some people can always find a reason to be jerks.

I would love to read a few more articles along the same lines about Eve.  Well done!

PvP in a game is only meaningful if you really give a crap about a bit of data stored  on a server somewhere. Now if the monitor had a pound of C4 in it and exploded  if you lost the battle , that would be meaningful PvP.

Yawn...I think Eve is a good game but Im so tired of peoples failed attempts to breath life into it and try to make up for CCPs giva shit atitude. Its a great PvP game with a whole lot of glitter spread around but once you have been around the gate a few times, so to speak, it gets pretty yawn and all the glitter starts pointing out all the lame and bad in the game. It could have been so much more to so many more but it is far too little far too late to care anymore. Just stick a fork in it...ot a Javalin in this case. Oh wait missiles suck for PvP so better stick a Scorch in it instead.

That is a very Jigsaw-like idea there, Jack. Creepy, but true.

Cool story - as always when one hears stories of EVE. However, in the end, its not the game that makes or breaks one's experience, its the community. And EVE has one of the worst communities in an MMO. Just read this thread to see the amount of self-satisfied backpatting and bickering between different elements.

Don't get me wrong, they have a core of extremely loyal and pretty nice people who share their love for the game at Fanfest and in their various endeavours that better the community all the time as a whole (such as Chribba and others). But then you have tens of thousands of dipshits, trolling forums, talking smack and just generally behaving like hooligans. And thats their hobby.

thats just your experience dude. personally ive found the customer service in EVE to be the best in any MMO ive played. Speedy, friendly responses everytime. When i first started playing back in the day on a trial account. i had a GM contact me ingame to ask me if there was anything he could help me with. he basically spent the better part of an evening teaching me the basics of the game. v.impressed.

If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!

never underestimate the GM's perspicacity....  though one of the problems with having to deal with any customer services, is that by the time you do, your usually frustrated about something... though sometimes the problems they have to deal with are a lot closer to the client image

You do know that the graphs in the link you provided progresses from Right to Left, which shows the game population is growing right? Or did you miss the detail?

    For those who have never played EVE but are thinking aobut it;

I played EVE for 5 straight years, gave it up two years ago.  Those type's of battles, and system changes have been happening for many years now.  The game has a steep learning curve, but it is the most comprehensive game out there, no question.  The reason I gave it up was that it is not just a game, but a way of life.  To be succesful in EVE, you must put in enormous amount of hours playing.  I once played for 18 straight hours (Alliance taking over a region)....and there are many who play 12-18 hours everyday!!!!  The game goes off-line for an hour a day, or at least it did when I played, otherwise I believe there would be 2-3 day straight playing by some :)

If you are thinking about giving EVE a try, I would recommend packing a lunch and kissing your loved ones goodbye...

I played EVE for awhile, quit out of boredom, came back a year later and eventually quit again. There are no goals in the game loftier than just having an uber level character so you can more easily blow up other ships, to get more uber stuff or isk to buy more uber stuff so you can blow up more ships, to get more uber stuff, etc. etc. round and round, ad naseum. Controlling space in null sec means absolutly nothing, unless you just want to build up isk and amass more virtual stuff. It's a war economy and everything is regenerative and it doesn't take long to realize that your just playing Counter Strike in space.

You can't even RP cause the game defies it's own lore and any sense of possible logic you could ever attribute to Science Fiction. SW:TOR at least looks like it will have an engaging story with interesting characters.

The dates are all there, EVE sub rates have gone down from start of the year.

If you don't believe me saying that the monocle-gate didn't have a negative impact then would you believe CCP?

Now you just need to learn how trends work.  You'll notice that the graph says the same thing.

The population has continually risen, with small drops at intervals.

You're attempt to make it look like people are leaving the game is fail.  Your own evidence shows otherwise.

Sadly, it does tend to take a little intelligence to comprehend something as complicated as a graph.  With all those lines and numbers things start to get confusing.  I would start by looking up the word trend, then looking up resources that will help you to better understand how to read a graph.  The two combined should be enough to comprehend how the population has trended over the years.  Good luck.

    Some quotes:

"it was like that when I got here.", "whoever said it let it", "trust me, I bet I can't even fit it in there."
