mods are for ppl who cant play the real game...and buying and selling items for RL money is a intresting perk wich i will be looking forward to...and no offlfline play? well i dont c a problem with that since everyone has the net now a days...only hics n red necks dont
I am looking forward to D3 and how they are going to twist the story line....just hope it isnt a EPIC fail like World of Warcraft....
The mods for d2 were way harder then the original game btw... RMT means in diable i could just buy a faith bow instead off wroking to get one really your an idiot. No offline means if the servers are down i cant play which it should just be an mmo which is not what i was looking for in a diablo game. The fun off diablo was i could solo bosses. Please think before u speak u sound like the redneck.
Anyone upset over having to play online needs to grow up and get with the times.
It's not some crazy effort to make higher profits, it's a reasonable effort to prevent revenue loss due to piracy.
Different sides of the same coin, I know, but pay for your games - better services, better products.
...
Take off the blood-red tinted glasses, think about this stuff in a realistic and logical fashion, and it makes sense.
Absolutely correct! Everyone has broadband now! even those in rural areas who are lucky to have a telephone line! And all of those people who rent and can't get a fixed line in the property, well, they have such cheap and fast mobile broadband now! And of course, nobody would ever play a game on their laptop on the train... Not without taking their cheap and trusty mobile broadband dongle anyway! You know, the ones that work EVERYWHERE. And flights, nobody would ever want to game on a laptop while on a flight, not when there's crappy in-flight movies to watch! And the servers... They'll never go down, EVER. Even if they need maintenance, they'll be so good they can be re-loaded on the fly, without dropping a connection!
In case you didn't realise, that was sarcasm. Yes, a lot of people have broadband, but it is by no means widespread enough to assume it will be available all of the time that someone would want to game. Combined with having to rely on servers actually being up, you're left with a pretty compelling reason why this is such a bad idea. If you buy a single player game, you expect to be able to play it offline, at your own convenience. Sure, restrict online play to online characters only, but don't prevent people from playing the game offline. There's plenty of ways to accomodate fair online play without needing to do that.

They've never supported mods for Diablo, so that's unsurprising. What is surprising is their harsh stance towards people that'd like to try anyway. It's kind of disgusting.
Online always wont affect me but it's absolutely silly. Lots of people don't have stable connections and some don't have connections at all. Whatever, though, Blizzard doesn't want their business.
RMT auction house is kind of a neutral point for me. While I'd rather there be zero RMT, I'd also rather it be handled through Blizzard if there is going to be any at all (Diablo 2 non-private online play was absolutely ruined by botters and spammers for third party sites). I like that it's still controlled by the players - that's cool.
My biggest problem is that I think the advent of the RMT and being able to sell your items for real money will near completely kill trading of any other form (unless you play hard core, as stated - not interested). Why would you want to trade items for an ingame currency when you could sell them for real money and just buy what you want? I'll bet the money gained from selling wont just be exclusive for use in purchasing items, so there's that as well.
ouch =( i wasnt gonna buy D3 because LoL gives and will give a more balanced pvp experience, but this will definitely ruin D3 for many. gone are the days when you could just buy a copy of the game and enjoy it for a few years with no strings attached. thank god for GW2.
how long have they been developing this piece of shit anyway? 10 years? and this is what they come up with?
I'm going to call it now: this will do absolutely nothing to curb piracy. D3 will be available with a SP hack mere days after release with thousands and thousands of seeders and even more leechers. Like most "anti-piracy" measures, this will do absolutely nothing to curb piracy, while limiting choices and generally making things worse for actual consumers.
All I can say is, this is so true lol. The hackers and pirates will probally find a way to trick the game into thinking your own PC is the server, just like they did with bioshock and other games to bypass the activation and stuff like that.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
I actually applaud blizzard on the market for players. Hell its been going on still for ages in D2 and used to be rampant on eBay.
The offline play is actually my biggest bummer as thats the only way I play and the small niche of gamers I play with don't advovate hacking either. Many other things such as taking away from ability to diversify come to mind with D3, but without a doubt making items having value will change the way this game is percieved. Some people will make a nice amount from this game I am certain.
Blizzard needs the their named change to Gravediggers cause thats all they have done to every ip they have!!
You know, with all the rampant hacking at Blizzard I was not thrilled with how they handled it with Starcraft 2. This might actually make me not buy Diablo 3. I will have to think about it.

Think reminds me of the bioshock debacle.. least I think it was, their activation server couldn't seem to stay up for more than 2 mins at a time, yet the pirates were already happily playing the game due to people who found a way to make the game think your pc was the activation server.

It seems like anytime a company announces any features of their game, whether it's gameplay details, graphics, or add ons, they lose customers. There's always someone who immediately jumps on the forums and explains in a very rational and calm manner (read: hysterical and uncompromising) why exactly this was the worst decision that company could have made, and how no one will now purchase their product due to some moronic argument.
Logically, then, a game with absolutely no features should do the best in terms of sales amongst forum goers. No features, no whiney forum people crying about how stupid anti-piracy measures are, and what a cash grab it is to help limit the extremely dangerous sales of online goods through third party distributors. Everybody wins.
sweet, I like everything they listed, I will buy this game now, since all I ever like to do is farm stuff over and over, now I can potentially net a profit for it. I like where this is going.
Seems blizzard really dont want my money, well i had my hopes on torchlight2 from start.
Sad part: D3 sales will be huge because some people just like to "bend over" for blizzard.
Or they just want to play a good game and not participate in any of those features. Just like the previous 2 games, I'll gladly play the campaigns with nobody other than a select group of friends in my world. The existence of these features do nothing to detract from that great multiplayer experience.
Either I can enjoy the game in that way, or I can miss out on the experience and childishly boycott the game because of the inclusion of some features I don't like, even if I never have to encounter them.

No offline mode for a singleplayer rpg is retarded, theres always going to be someone who will say "i don't care, screw me MORE please".
If we don't complain, who knows what EA and Activision could do.
I heard the next COD will have a subscription fee, im sure you will buy it, right, because publishers can't be wrong or greedy $%&#.

stop saying its to stop piracy it will not work, even SC2 you can play off line with a certain patch over the internet, so I call all this "its just to stop piracy" lies
2 things to point out for about 80% of the posters here who happen to not actually think when they type.

A+ Post. Everyone is bitching instead of actually reading the artices and noticing we can make profit ourselfs leguuuuully, All those little 16 year olds now that are afraid to ask for money from their parents for condoms and alcohol can now make it via paypal and tell their parents where they make the money then just cash it out via a bank account. Assuming they have parents that will let them get a bank account.
well no offline play killed it for me in the same way starcraft 2 did sorry but not paying 50-60 bucks for a game that i have to online to play, now drop the price to 20 bucks cause your getting half a game and i might consider it. Blizz has been going down hill since they made the burning crusade expasion they just keep finding ways to ruin their own ips lol.
You dont need to be online to play SC2 single player. FACT!
meh I could care less about mods, all they do is give people a competitive advantage and/or do work for them.
Also it's 2011, how many people actually care that there isn't an "offline" mode.
Just wait till there's a server maintenance.
I know right? We will have to sleep or eat or poop or something. Or if servers go offline we might even have to.... GASP Go play TOR or Guild Wars 2 or even Torchlilililight. Fuck what am I going to do with myself?

Calling Diablo a RPG game seems a bit generous to me, I´d call it an action game but besides that I agree. Playing single player games online makes no sense whatsoever.

Anyone who thinks that this is "all" mods do knows literally nothing about mods. Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Diablo 2, Torchlight, S.T.A.L.K.E.R...all these games and countless more have mods that add new content, fix broken content, improve graphics and performance, change the nature of the game entirely for a fun and new experience, and make the game more challenging.
Mods SHOULD be banned from closed Battle.net play. But the idea that mods should banned outright is absolutely retarded. I have literally never heard of a non-MMO that did not benefit from a strong and active modding community in a myriad of ways.
