We come to a time where wierd business decisions are made in various companies, but two of those are more focused on Blizzard Entertainments Diablo 3. A much antisipated Action RPG that Blizzard keeps changing to provide a better experience for others, but as we all know these two latest decisions proved to be bad for the user in my opinion.

No offline play and no mobs will ruin Diablo 3 imo, I never want to see that....
The end of epic?
I hardly played D2 offline so it is no big deal for me. Also, it will kill piracy which is a good thing. I was never planning to play D3 offline as the real fun is online playing with others. don't know why players are making such a big deal about it? Intenet is where the real Diablo is.
Because, at some point, gaming stopped being about the games and started to be all about the developers / publishers and their intentions.
I doubt it will have any effect on piracy. As usual it will be the pirates playing without a problem while the paying players encounter all sorts.
I think it's probably a bad move, but I'm going to reserve judgement until I see how everything actually works. I understand (and support) the reasoning behind real money transactions in the way Eve does them. However, the way Blizzard is doing it, and given the type of game Diablo is, it just seems to be a cash-grab..
No diablo 3 for me then I never played it (meaning any diablo) online, as well I have come to hate battlenet with a passion that rivals how khan felt for kirk. To me this was a nail in a long awaited coffin for blizzard. They went to far and I am done, when I buy a game I want to be able to play that game. It should not need me to be online to do it, I should not need to get on the net. I paid the money, I should be able to enjoy it. The exception to this is MMO's which, all arguments aside, Diablo is not.
I seriously don't understand all the hate on these changes.
For the auction house, it will eliminate all these shady Diablo 2 sites selling their items, and you are able to earn real money in game? The ingame currency option is still there, you don't have to start buying items with real cash.
As for it being online only, everyone should have internet at this point... we live in the year 2011. We have wireless internet at airports and coffee shops, there is no reason why you shouldn't have even dial up in your home. This also does eliminate a lot of hacks that people used offline. It will also be much easier for Blizzard to ban inappropriate players.
I see no problem here except Blizzard creating a safe and fun gaming environment for us.
This.
Well i think most players would never buy gold or items from illegal third companies or gold sellers.... but with this new auction house Blizzard is bringing with Diablo 3 most playes WILL do buy items for cash... so at the end we´ll just get a pay-to-win game.
No one will sell powerfull items for in game currency while they can sell for real money.... so...
No thanks...i´m not playing that crap.
Means I'm not buying it now....
Offline play is so 2000'ish.
No problem for me that you have to be online to play.
The Real Money Auction House doesnt change anything that isnt allready a real thing. Its just now in the game which means more safe transaction and hopefully less spam of some honorfulmoney4you site which makes me all the more merrier.
So basicly beeing online is a problem for those living where there are no internet access and got no mobile access, or those that want to play but not pay.
The auction house is bad news for the money-bot business, and I can understand their griefing....not!!!
Must have never played Diablo 2, because if you did you would know that this was one of the biggest issues in Diablo 2. Blizzard is simply fixing it.
Fixing it????? Let me laugh....HAHAHAHA
They are just getting a piece of the cake if you decide to buy items for cash.....
Actually they are promoting buying items for cash...
They are just getting the money....not fixing anything.
The "Activision" part of "Activision Blizzard" is hitting in...next stop: Diablo hero: Bhaal edition, you need to buy plastic controllers for each version of a weapon in game and all updates come in form of new games that are 100% uncompatible with each others plastic apparels.
I'm so glad there's no offline play. Still, wish we had more than 5 players per game. 16+ at least.
I'm over it, and by that I mean D3 entirely.
I've been second guessing nearly every change and feature they've let loose so far, this was the final straw. R.I.P. Diablo for you are dead to me, we had a good long run atleast, even if only for two games.
I think a lot of people are out of thier minds by how the over react to innovation. They would literally rather spend money on games and never make money back. It's pretty pathetic honestly as if they like it or not theres already a huge D2 underground cash shop market, Blizzard knew this and decided to make it less ingenious and actually get something back on it. I'm all for it, if someone else doesn't play because of it... that's someone I didn't want to play with in the first place because they won't buy my ****.
As for the offline mode, if someone really has a problem with this I can understand (SORT-OF) but I believe it's still mostly people who wanted to get the game for free via piracy.
and before someone says well you'll be playing alone!!!... Really? Do you really think so? If so you're niave as most of the people who are e-raging over it will be playing too, they just won't admit it because their emotional at the moment.
"Sometimes people say stuff they don''t mean, but more often then that they don''t say things they do mean"
1. Being online only -
I remember another H&S game tried this (to some extent). Sacred 2.
Every game in S2 was technically online game. This meant that in "singleplayer" you could not save , or pause the game when you wanted.
Now that is expected of MP game. But i play SP to relax and on my own terms. If telephone rings , i want to be able to pause. Or save game when i need to go.
This is huge inconvinience. And practically kills one of biggest advantages of Diablo - posibillity to be pick up casual game.
2. RMT
Lets face it. Gold Selling buisness is rampant. Only people that never played MMOs are unaware of that.
But until now Gold Sellers had to sell their goods over shady internet sites. Which severely limited their profits.
Blizzard is giving them 100% legal and convinient online shop front. "Steam for gold sellers"
This will make Diablo 3 number 1 choice for gold selling sweatshops.
And how will this affect game ?
1. Anything regualr player could sell will be offered cheaper by Gold Sellers
2. Massive sweatshop forces grinding items will simply overflow economy , and render it broken
3. Pay to Win , will be name of the game. Players will be ridicilously equiped with Pay items, non paying player will be outcasted.
4. Hacking accounts , stealing characters and selling them - will be rampant.
And what community will this bring ?
Worst one.
And you will not even have singleplayer mode.
really didnt care about diablo 3 till i saw this news, now its all i can think about, i was waiting for TERA but honestly at this point fuck it im playing diablo 3
Really? explain how. This is not just some DRM we are talking about where you need internet connection to play an offline mode. Example Ubisoft's Settlers 7 where if DRM removed can enable you to play offline but to go online you still need a valid code and no amount of piracy will help you.
In D3 there is no offline mode at all so you need a valid key to register and play on Blizzards servers. So how it will not effect piracy? now unless someone set ups private servers thats another issue and even MMOS suffer from that. But not a chance in hell that you can connect to official servers through pirated copy of D3.
Implying that D2 sites that sold items weren't a problem?
So what if Blizzard is getting money for these cash items rather than these shady D2 sites. Totally fine by me, it's their game. Is it really a bad thing if the company making your game grows bigger? Wake up. Having Blizzard gain these profits improves your game. People need to stop having this vision that money ruins everything. It doesn't. Noone is forcing you to participate in RMT. Blizzard is just trying to keep up with the industry. YOU need to adjust.
Money doesn't ruin everything. Obsessive companies hunting after said money is what ruins things. The RMT is nothing but a new cash cow for them and a means of legitimizing chinese farming. You think after a person gets their account cracked and has their items sold for real money, that Blizzard is just going to say "Ok, since you've proven that you didn't sell your items yourself, here you go. Everything back?"
If you think that then you are very, very, naive. All this is is now chinese farmers can go about farming the hell out of things, (Including by the darker means of cracking accounts and selling their items as well,) sell the peoples' items, and Blizzard would undoubtedly be hunky-dory with it as long as they get a cut from the profits.
Oh, and Blizzard's not keeping up with the industry. Saying that implies that they have fallen behind, which simply isn't true. This is simply Kotick using another big ip to rack as much money into his bank account on the stupidity of the fans who buy before they think.
Nha they need to adjust they sell their product to us, not the way around. You give your money. Usually the industry that make you think the customer must adjust to their products aren't very good.
I don't think anyone care tbh. The problem is the phylosophy behind the conception of games, if they are designed as cash cow, then you can be sure to have problems in very near future because the industry will force you to spend an enormous amount of money just to play their games properly. When you see how p2p model are working, its not strange big companies just want to gain the same kind of profit. You just can'"t let them do it without a fight, i don't, simply because i don't want me or my kids to have to pay 200$ a month to play a video game in 3 to 5 years.
Edit automobile industry fit to their customers dude, just read about this industry history to make sure. Now the fact government use automobile industry to put fat taxes on them all over the world is not linked to the industry.
did you really have to start another thread about this? There are like 4 threads circulating about this exact thing.
