If you want to call Rift a WoW clone then mroe power to you I guess. It is a genre and basically every decision Trion makes has made it different then WoW. At end game you do not end up sitting in the cities bored just a friendly hint of what is actually different.
GW2 end game as I under stand it is 5 man with dyanmic storylines (and I am being fair here) that alternate depending on which path you take!!?!? ok 5 mans...They have never been considered end game content. Not in any mmo in the history of mmo's have they been considered end game.
WvWvW holds little to no interest to me. I am tired of pvp in mmorpg's and can not stand the people it attracts to the game. Did it enough in Aion and toyed around with it and Rift and realized I am just about done.
Dynamic content as your end game: Ok this works as long as it stays fresh. Unless ArenaNET has invent SkyNet and it automatically refreshes the content and makes it evolve they will need to add stuff because people are going to blaze through it in less then a month.
There is no real pve paiding. It is ok for huge pvp raids, but not pve raiding. This has always confused me and whenever I bring up this fact I never get a response from GW2 fans. So I stick to what I said. SWToR for pve and GW2 for pvp.
I'll answer any question you have about GW2, so don't worry in the future about not getting a response from GW2 fans.
GW2 is not a gear centric game. It will be comparatively easy to get max statistical gear probably by drops, crafting, PVP, dungeons, or an optional karma grind. The difference will be in the look. ArenaNet just doesn't want you to have to raid for your gear as the only option, or grind out one dungeon in order to get to the next tier. It's just a different system, they're trying to eliminate grind anywhere in the game.
There will be hard dynamic events and hard dungeon at endgame for people who want a challenge. The dungeons will be 5 mans. There are 8 dungeons in the game, each with 4 paths.
The game also scales players down in power automatically so they can't grief lower level events by 1-shotting everything. This means when you're at max level, the entire world's content is open for you to do at a strong, but not overpowering level.
The game's focus is on replayability. In the personal story mode, it looks like you'll be able to get not very much overlap at all if you did the game 3 times for each of the 5 races. There's also dynamic events which you'll see which weren't running last time you were there, hidden dynamic events to find (both inside and outside dungeons), new dynamic events they'll keep adding in to keep things fresh, as well as optional vanity grinds for titles and achievements.
Our best estimates is that if it takes you 100 hours to level to cap, and there's 5 races, each with their own leveling path, you could easily do 500 hours of content and not repeat much, and probably the potential is there for a lot more.
And finally, it's a B2P game. It doesn't have to compete with other MMOs and keep you interested in playing full time. If you bought the box and played 10 hours a week and did your raiding elsewhere, I'm sure ArenaNet wouldn't mind. A game doesn't have to be everything to everybody, and it's probably better off not trying.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it."-Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
GW2 doesnt interest me because I am a bit over fantasy MMO's at this point, the market is oversaturated with them IMHO.
SWTOR is apparently not available in my region (not being available in all english speaking regions at launch is a joke) and no word on when it will be so I won't be buying that either.
This is really a misconception that came about from the region blocking on origin pre-order thing. Bioware has said(through email's anyway, not sure if anyone has personally come out and said it yet) that there will be no IP blocking, so no matter where you live, if you buy the game you will be able to play it. Now it's not going to be in different languages if that may be what you are looking for other than English, but if that isn't a problem for you then you should have zero problems playing the game. Just don't get the game from origin
I really have no interest in GW2, haven't followed it at all so it could be an awesome game for all I know. Will wait and see though, looking forward to SWTOR, but not going to get the pre-order(really have no desire to be a part of any launch anymore, first time was waiting a couple months after WoTLK released, and I was surprised at how much happier and fun my game time was). So going to do a semi wait and see approach from SWTOR, definitely want to play it, but at same time skeptical on some things, hope it does great though, this market really needs competition.
Think I will wait 6 months and buy swtor on budget here for sure as a really good 1 player/casual group game. GW2 jury is out, if it is new generation mmorg and departs from themepark hell then ill go for that otherwise, ill wait for archage.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
From what I get GW2 5 man dungeons aren't really "end game" just a way to get cool looking gear for the people that need/want that gear grind. Although their 5 man dungeons do sound fun. The "end game" in GW2 looks more like the fighting of the Dragons in open world events.
Both are endgame - 5-man dungeons will be hard and challenging, endgame-events are more casual and massive (up to 100 players and more). Unfortunately, dragon-hunting won't be an endgame-event, at least not at release...
For PvP, you got 5-man arena Guild vs Guild for the challenge (ladder, tournaments) and World PvP for the massive stuff.
Lack of defined class roles and soft grouping....... not so much. Both of those have really turned me off when it comes to GW2. I think Bioware's ability to craft quality stories that really draw you in will trump the dynamic events of GW2. You can paint dynamic events anyway you want, but all I can think of is Rift. Even if they are more involved than Rift's, I saw how the community reacts to them a few months in when they have become repetitive and old and can't help thinking it will be more of the same. I might be wrong. Besides I am an altaholic and it will be refreshing to experience different things each time....or even some of the same stories from a different point of view.
Guild Wars 2 has a personal storyline as well that happens in instanced content like dungeons. This runs parallel to dynamic events which are the persistent content designed to give players that Massively Multiplayer experience. The personal story in Guild Wars 2 also has the ability to change the experience of a player based on choices you make during the game, and how you develop your character's biography, which starts as early as character creation, much like other Bioware titles. Along with possibly experiencing different dynamic events as you go through each map, I think Guild Wars 2 has a lot of what you would want in terms of creating alts and experiencing quality storytelling.
I will be purachsing both probably, but there isn't as much information for Star Wars: The Old Republic. So far, I'm banking my interest in TOR on the track-record of Bioware and how much I loved the first KOTOR.
However, I will definitely be purchasing Guild Wars 2!
Poll basically shows what i see on forums regularly. A majority of those looking forward to TOR, are looking forward to both games. A majority of those looking forward to GW2 just want GW2.

Haha, nah. I linked a very large collection of information for each game, so my source is back in my first post.
Every major mechanic for Guild Wars 2 is known, is in the game, and is working. Arena Net has been up-front when putting their money where their mouth is. Such as exactly how combat will work. People know the skill bars for GW2 inside-out by now. Dynamic events have been discussed to death in forums and in blog posts. Personal storyline is present and accounted for. Underwater combat, dye system & armor custimization, pricing model, traveling, the downed state, the leveling curve, achievements, the user-interface, the marketplace, crafting, mini-games and more! Everything I mentioned has had a largearticle explaining it up, down, sideways, then back again, all neatly organized in the official ArenaNet blog, and explains exactly how it's operating now, not how it's intended to.
The same, however, cannot be said for TOR (at least in my experience). I had to do the vast majority of my research in their forums, fan sites, and third party sources. The bit that's on their official website isn't informative at all, a lot of times being less than a paragraph long. and either I'm bad at researching, or Guild Wars 2's information is just more easily accessible, but a lot of the information for TOR is from quotes of developers in Q & A, and not showcased in the video contents. Even in the gathered information link, I can't get a clear definition of what their world content will be like. As far as that goes, I've just seen speculations. They say they'll have it, and stress that 80% of a lot of the maps will have non-phasing open world explorable areas, but what's in those areas? There's even threads from equally uneducated people as me wondering where the MMO aspect appears in this Star Wars MMO-RPG, because we already know far too well what the RPG experience will be like. (Incredible!) I'm not saying there's not a lot of information on the game regarding some of it's larger features, but there's certainly not enough for me to be passive about it Especially since they're already selling pre-orders!
If you do have any of the answers to my quarries, please link source and explain xD I'd be more than happy to take back anything that reflects negatively towards TOR.

I think it's pretty much safe to say we know just about all there is to know about TOR as well. As they only have one major big thing left in terms of features. Which they've down-played in saying it's in reference to something about the game some may or may not like.
As for your question about how worlds are set up, it's your traditional MMO, think WOW, there are also going to be exploration related extra's. (IE: rare(?) items to find off the beaten path).
In GW2's case we don't even know all professions yet, so how can you say all the major features are in the game and working?
Just as an example all TOR professions have been revealed, as well as their advanced paths.
TOR features:
-8 different branching paths with unique (to each class) stories.
-Cinematic storylines throughout the questing experience.
-Battleground & World PVP, (hunch)-> on both PVP and PVE servers.
-17 different worlds, plus "some lesser areas" (whatever that means)- Note- each planet varies in size. Some small, some in between, some huge.
-Companions and all they entail: Crafting- while crafting is it's own system entirely, it is tied to the companions. Actually making them more versatile than typical pets, considering they'll also have adaptable combat functionality (think dragon age). As well as their own stories/quests.
- Space on Rails mini-game
- Raiding/ World story (boss) encounters...
- Entire planet for post-level-cap story play.
That's TOR in a nutshell (give or take a feature or two) make of it what you will.

Im almost certainly going to grab a copy of GW2 at some early point after release. I see no reason to preorder it. I can get a look at the game before I buy, such as videos, reviews, etc.
Swtor? Probably not. Unless it turns out to be something more surprising than what Ive been seeing so far. My faith in Bioware is just about gone. I feel EA has turned them from a company that made instant classics, to a developer that just makes passable games. Good games maybe, but arguably so.
Im surprised by this comment - which games have been passable?
Mass Effect 1 - Classic
Mass Effect 2 better than the 1st
DAO: Very very good, not quite classic
DA2: Again a very good game, maybe not everyones cup of tea
Dont get me wrong i hate EA for what they done to FIFA but either there they seem to be trying their hardest to make things right.
To answer the OPs question i will be getting both. Both seem to have good ideas and fun aspects

GW2 will end up being more popular in the long run as its trying to evolve the aspects and immersion feel of the MMORPG genre. That's my prediction.
The question was: Which one will you buy?
Don't turn this into a versus thread! We have enough of those!
I'm gonna buy Guild Wars 2 for sure but wait for a trial or beta before making my mind up about SWTOR.
Im buying Guild Wars 2 for sureeeeeeeeeeee!!!
1. No monthly subscription like TOR
2. Amazing that TOR is totally voice acted, but really most of us are gonna skip through most of the "stupid quest" dialogue. Dynamic events FTW!
3. Full map will be playable with release. TOR is leaving planets out of release!!! Probably to stick it to everyone with an expansion or long patch!
Gw2 FTW!
GW2 i'm gonna buy, SWTOR... probably i ll buy, but doubt i ll subscribe.
