Yeh well i was talking of the EA business model of FIFA for about 10/11 years from 96 to about 2007 - i can see now they are trying to make better games but for so long it was the exact same game with slightly better gfxs, i fully agree about PES loved the game until 2006ish but to date is pretty poor.  FIFA 12 looks/sounds amazing lets hope they can pull off what they are saying

I was a die-hard PES supporter from the PS1 days where I had to import the 'Winning Eleven' series from Japan. But in 2010, I just couldn't support it anymore and switched to FIFA. :(

I preordered SWtOR and will maybe buy GW2. Kind of want to see some in-depth reviews that can alleviate my fears on how much content there is.

TBH though it seems like the most popular up-and-coming MMO is which ever one is the farthest away. That way you can squint at it sideways and make it look like whatever you want it to be. Darkfall, Aion, DCUO, AoC. Lots of vocal supporters before release, not too many after when the game starts bleeding subscribers and merging servers.

Never before have I preordered any game so I'll cross my fingers and hope SWTOR does actually have the 200 hours of content per class like the developers claim.

SWTOR doesn't interest me, and I've been waiting for GW2 to release for years now, so that's the one I'll be buying.

Guild Wars 2 for sure. I was thinking about SWToR until I watched some gameplay video, narrated by one of the developers. I've been disliking the entire "holy trinity" for a long time before Guild Wars 2 said they were doing away with it. More to do with tanks than healers though. I find tanking to be a completely contrived dynamic.

I keep trying to picture what Lord of The Rings would have lookedl ike if everyone just attacked Boromir or Gimil and no one else was ever in any real danger. I think tanking is fun, by the way, but it also limits both player and developer creatiivity. Eventually all you end up with is so many variations on a theme...but what if you don't like the theme?

Maybe Guild Wars 2 won't be as different as I think it will be, and I'll be dissappointed, but so far, I like what I'm seeing.

    Both.

I already Pre-ordered SWTOR and i can't wait to play it. Many people are saying it's a WoW clone but that's hard to know when you haven't played it and even so i don't mind a WoW Star Wars mmorpg.

As long as the game is successfull i will be happy because it's freaking Star Wars and i'm a huge Star Wars nerd.

Guild Wars 2 looks amazing, i'm not as excited about it as i am with SWTOR but i'm looking forward to it.

SWTOR,  simply because mankind will destroy themselves and our world long before GW2 ever launches. 2012 is imminent!

Hopefully I can reach max lvl in SWTOR in a month or two cause that will be about how long I have untill god allows us to destroy it all!

Star Wars for sure,  I thought the first GW was garbage so I have no intrest at all in GW2.

    SWTOR for sure.   GW2, doubtul.

I mostly enjoyed GW1, and I bought a couple of expansions.   Never finished them though.   I really enoyed the fact that your progress wasn't limited if you were a soloer, more MMOs need that.   However, I found the combat to be too slow and sloggy, and there were soooooo many trash mobs everywhere you had to wade through.

basically means its boring as hell to tank, that you are forced to do in a group, rather than wanting to do

    I think both looks promising, but I have to go with GW2 Because;

I want my gameplay sessions to be quicker. I can't play for very long at a time, thus I cant wait around for groups(tanks, healers, dps...) or play long winded gameplay sessions.

With full time studying, an extra job and sports, and a girlfriend I need to attend to aswell, it really hurts my gaming time.

There is a bigger chance that I will be able to play with real life friends in GW2 than in other MMOs. Why? Because in most other MMOs like SWTOR, you out level your friends. you are levels below or higher than him, and this is frustrating. we've tried to create special characters just for when we are together but that is not always as fun. We wanna play what we wanna play, when we want it.

With sidekicking, I can play with my friends and be sidekicked/downgraded no matter what level we're at. This is a hugh deal.

So I think for me it will not be SWTOR/GW2, it will be GW2/short session online games; Diablo 3/BF3/Mount and Blade Warband.

The days of having time for a full fledged MMO is simply over, which is sad. I still think SWTOR will be really good for what it is.

Well, think about tank and dps as it would play out if people were doing it in "real life".  You have the tank body blocking an enemy while the dps behind him shoots it with arrows or something.  Not only is the tank in the way, but the tank has a sword.  If the enemy tries to rush around him to get to the dps, he leaves himself open to the tank doing significant damage himself.

At low levels in a holy trinity MMO, this kind of works.  The tank is a little better at absorbing damage, the dps is a little better at dealing it.

The problem is that at high levels, things get more and more out of whack.  The easiest ways to make an enemy tougher are to make it hit harder and to have more HP.  The tank needs to stack more and more defense to survive, and the dps needs to do more and more damage.  The game can't balance around the tank being some kind of tank/dps hybrid, because then it would be too easy for players who did stack nothing but defense.

As you keep getting higher and higher level, a really silly situation starts to emerge where the mob is attacking the only person in the group/raid who it can't kill in one second.  And because the tank can't do anywhere near the damage of the dps, the game artificially includes things like taunts or additional threat to hold the mob in place.

It's a system that works well enough, but take a step back and you realize that it doesn't make any sense at all.

Have you noticed that tanking doesn't exist in PVP. I mean you can be "tankISH" but you can't tank. That's because some PVPers are smart enough to know that if someone isn't dying, it's probably being healed by someone.

Now, if I'm banging away on some guy and he doesn't die, the first thing I do is look for a healer. Is this because I'm a brilliant prodigy of MMOs. No. It's because it's simple and logical. So I'm fighting this supposedly dangerous boss, maybe some great sorcerer or demon or whatever and he's not even as smart as me? Not smart enough to look for a healer? I don't think so. lol

The idea of tanking is that this guy generates SO MUCH threat, you'll just keep attacking him no matter how stupid it is to do so. That, to me, is arbitrary and contrived. It makes no sense, except within the context of the fact that games tell you it does make sense. If if you actually look at what happens in battles, you'll find that everyone doesn't just go jump on a single guy and ignore everyone else. This would be even more true in a world where healers actually exist.

This makes sense, for perhaps one single boss that doesn't use magic or have range at all. It doesn't make sense for one guy to be able to block a group of three, four or five guys as many tanks can do. Sure in the game it makes sense, because the AI is stupid. But if you make the AI smarter, then one of those enemies should look around for a healer and go after that healer.

And if the tank shoots him with something to get his attention, and drags him back..welll if it doesn't work in PVP it probably shouldn't work in PVe either. It' divides the game into to halves that dont' match up. You can tank left of this line, but not right of this line.

I mean, don't you think battles would be more epic if an army of guys came at you and you and everyone else had to fight them? Cause that's pretty much what happens in battles.

Not considering either. Have 0 plans to play unless begged by friends at some point in the future. Which I don't see happening but you never know.

    GW2 for many many reasons.

I think it's best to look at the company's making the games. Then look at the games and then look at who these company's tailor themselves from.

Plus B2P is a good price plan for me, and well we have absolutely no idea what the monthly fee for ToR is.

After my bad customer service experience with NCsoft on Aion where they actually allowed the account hacker to use my acct for the remainder of the month I'd paid for before giving me back control (only after I canceled my sub did they respond, run around on the phone service and no email help at all) I decided I would never again do anything/have anythign to do with that company.

Not saying GW2 is a bad game, I just hate NCsoft, its up there with SOE to me after that incident.  If they'd handled things differently I might have stuck around because the gaming worlds they build are visually stunning.

I've never had a bad experience with Bioware regarding customer service, but then again they're brand new to the mmo gaming world and it wasn't a normal concern to protect vs hackers.  They're providing people with login tokens to help assauge that problem much like WoW (I also use my onscreen keyboard for games now after learning the hardway the awfulness of keylogging).

So yeah I'm definately getting SW:TOR... not so much GW2

I'm not racist, I hate everyone equally.

Honestly? Both. I may be way more hyped for GW2, but  I was a big KOTOR fan and will have to check out its succesor.

    @imagirl01

I haven't had the best customer support either, but that doesn't change the quality of the game. We're the exception not the rule, or  else they really just wouldn't have any customers.

keyloggers can also record on screen keyboards, not all of them do.

    Just saying....

I sold my Aion account to some company where I had to give my drivers license, and now made a new one for GW2 where I bought GW1 as well. I had a quick chat with NCsoft over the fact that because of me selling the previous aion account my new account could be comprimised, and they were all cool about it tbh. Also got repplys in 25 minutes thro Cservice and they redirected me to a senior GM straight away.

I'm not even going to enumerate the various reasons, i'll just give you one.

    GW2 is buy to play.

I'll get my money's worth no matter what.

  • gilgamesh9gilgamesh9 Member Posts: 133

    Absolutely  buy GW2.

Will not preorder or buy SWTOR until it's a bargain bin or they add X-Wing like 3d flight.

  • MasterRoshyMasterRoshy Member Posts: 3

If Guild Wars 2 has a better Pre-order Price than the god awful SWTOR 150$ Collectors Edition than I will pre order it.

GW2 is looking to be the better choice for Cheap Gamers on a budget since it requires no monthly fee of any kind.

Star Wars seems like a good game, but it may have to wait 1-2 months after realase to get the full subscriber reviews and not some paid commercial EA sponsored Advertisement Review to lure unsuspecting noobs to buy it.
