Can't recall seeing this game mentioned here before, but Burning Dog Media is developing a Sci-fi/Fantasy sandbox MMORPG called Origins.
I'm more of a traditional fantasy player, but this does look interesting.

I have stumbled upon this one before, and I have some respect for the devs for not chosing yet another "Everyone else did it wrong, but WE will get it right" fantasy indie UO-wannabe sandbox approach which I am soon getting tired of. The world and settings look quite interesting, will follow the development and see what becomes of it. Can't say I am impressed by graphics thou.
Can't say I'm a fan of the graphics or art style yet either, but I imagine the game has a long way to go, so some stuff could change.
They've got some familiar sandbox elements planned, though honestly there's not a ton of information to go on just yet. I did think this was interesting, though:
No Scripted Boss Fights
Ever been stalked for days by a creature in a mmorpg... having it watch you and study you waiting for the right time to attack? Origins has dynamic and engaging gameplay with an AI that adapts and learns from the player and frequent GM controlled events. You can’t always be sure how an encounter will end.
Should be interesting to follow.

How would that even work?Would the creature sit and wait for you to log back on to continue stalking you?Would it disappear when you logged off and reappear when you log back on?That sounds like wishful "great concept but unable to actually do" thinking to me.
I've got the same question - I have no idea how that would work. You're probably right - it may end up being one of those great ideas that never sees the light of day.
It will be interesting to see how that would be implemented.

if they get that concept to work it will be brilliant
Indeed, it could be. Off the top of my head, the only other game I can think of that had something that sounds similar to this is the nemesis system from Champions Online.
Looking forward to hearing more about it.

Nice theme/style to the artwork.
The site is very misleading, though. It has the standard red flags of
slinging mud at existing 'MMO companies' and their 'carbon copy games'. "It’s time for something new."
promising the sandbox gamer's wish list (example : "Origins has dynamic and engaging gameplay with an AI that adapts and learns from the player and frequent GM controlled events.")
recruiting for every single position and offering 'a profit sharing model' if they get funding
It has all the signs of Clueless Armchair Developer Who Has Never Made A Game But Now Thinks He Can Mastermind a BlockBuster MMORPG #452378053
But that doesn't seem to be the case here. When you look up Burning Dog on LinkedIn,there's about 4 or 5 people listed and they all have rather cool backgrounds in the industry and related fields. It looks like there's a diverse team forming with a lead who has a solid track record in project management and IT. That site does them a definite disservice.
I'm looking forward to seeing this one evolve.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

and yet it looks like wow from the trailer tbh

My blog:
I'm always excited to see someone trying something new, but frome what I've seen the last years I will assume it's another MO/Xsyon/DF until otherwise demonstrated.
I'm just wondering how I can convince myself that it will be a WoW clonce too. WoW, a game that borrowed elements, features & mechanics heavily from its' predecessors; Meridian 59, UO, EverQuest, Asherons Call, Dark Age of Camelot, Final Fantasy, etc. and packaged them well.
Lookng at just the limited cursory information about Origins:
A distinctive science fiction, fantasy game.
Story driven, sandbox MMORPG
No Scripted Boss Fights
One changing open-world where actions made by the player can change the physical environment of the game.
Classless system giving players the ability to improve through skill and practice rather than through gear.
But I'd suspect that there will also be an amalgamation of, and hopefully sharpening of elements, features & mechanics that are familiar, but which compliment more of a mature sandboxy theme, rather than adolescent 6-flags themepark special olympics theme.
It's probably too early to tell. I haven't played it yet.
Lol. The chocobi? Anyways, it "looked" promising. But what they offer is pretty much a very tall order. Hope this one wont be a vaporware.
yay, another MMO that the people who claim to like sandboxes will ignore and let die, just so they can keep crying that no sandboxes are made...
Why, yes, actually, back in the good old days we called this "corpse camping".
This does sound interesting but I'm not sure it would actually be that "fun" - what are you doing for the days the creature is stalking you? Do you just feel creeped out because you keep seeing it run around and don't know when it will attack? Is this more story-based in that you keep getting hints dropped that "something" is out there and at a scripted point it leaps in?
In an open-world sandbox, I don't really see this adding much, other than annoyance that out of the blue some obsessive NPC swooped in to gank you while you were beating up something else. Or mining. Or crafting. Or whatever.
Lets see if they get that many of us are looking for more then a p2p death match.

Every other sandbox flop of the past few years had people who supposedly knew what they were doing (except possibly the guys writing Mortal Online). "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." It'll be years and years before this plays out, but I would bet it'll be yet another half baked sandbox game lacking most of the features promised and with all of the bugs they promised wouldn't be there.
It would be nice to be wrong about this.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I am not sure I like the "No scripted/gm controlled bosses".. how will they ensure enough of PvE content for all the players, and have each boss controlled by GM? How will they avoid GMs making small favours to players, giving them an easy kill.. hmm..
