Uhm, the shatterer vid had loads of people in it, it looks like at least 50 to me.

They have mostly showned dungeon combat lately, that means 5 players maximum but the vids from last autumn had plenty of open world action.

It might be that you are right and that they will have to tune down the level of effects before launching, wouldn't be the first time that happens in a game but I don't really see the problem, you can usually turn off most of the effects in any game if you like to.

I think that is exactly what I am looking for, a video with less lightshow (effects), so I can see some of the awesome combat tactics for real. The lightshow is where I compare it with WoW, I am aware that there is a completely different gameplay behind it, but I can't make it out. I hear it is much more than a fps game, and I want to see the proof of it. Maybe you just have to get it in your hands to understand..

Why would it be like an FPS?

Is it FIRST PERSON? no it is not,

Think more of the lines of Witcher 2 or Assassins Creed where u can roll to dodge attacks

EDIT: Either way, there will be open betas before launch, so no need to get your panties up in a bunch when for certain that you can test it by yourself in the open beta stage, or even closed beta if u get lucky.

This is where I assume that most ppl will decide whether to buy the game or not

The thing is that MMO devs don't like videos that have effects turned off because when they show those many people complain how ugly the game is. TOR did release some vids before they had finnished all effects and there were a lot of complaining here at the time.

GW2 had it's engine ready several years ago when Strain left so therefor is there no vids before all that stuff was added.

So yeah, your probably have to get your hands on the game if you like to turn your efects off. I usually have my on in MMOs but I had to turn them off in AoC when I played a PoM, it felt like a disco. ;)

So I take it you both missed the recent interview where we learned that they are currently working on a system to dynamically reduce the amount of effects in crowded battle situations?

Give me a minute, I'll dig up the link for you.

not the only one sadly.. i was really hopeful about this game, almost certain i would buy it, just for the WvW PVP... and then i saw the combat video's ..   definitely a this is not the game your looking for moment image

Interesting. I am surprised that people are complaining about GW2 combat. it is one of the main attraction for me and i absolutely love GW2 combat. I understand when players complain about crafting, mounts and classes not offering enough dynamic roles to fill but combat is just fantastic in GW2.

Still doesn't change the fact that it is not a 'unique' class and devs claim that " they are new to our world, they are new to every world, there's never been a creature like this in the fantasy genre." is trying too hard to sell their uniqueness.

Thank you, it is stuff like that I like to hear from devs, means they are listening, learning and adapting.

If they can dynamically tone it down, I bet you can do it manually aswell. I would still like to see it in a video if it is possible.

It is ok buddy. GW2 fans get very defensive the moment you say anything negative about GW2. Tolerance level for other people's opinion is very low on this forum. Use report button more often ;)

CGIs? What CGIs? All videos show in game footage, and any cut scenes in the in-game footage is generated b ythe game engine. What you see is what you get.

And I think the devs have agreed that some of the effects are a bit over the top and make the tactical play harder, so I'm expecting either a general tone-down, or maybe a slider for "how much flash would you like with your fireball?"

I feel like we're deviating a bit from the original question in this thread lol.

    Let's get back on topic!

What do you want to see in future videos? :)

    So far I've seen:

    • Less flashy combat that shows off more tactical stuff

    • PvP footage

    • A video about GW2 mamaries would be better, you know, focusing on whether or not they realistically sway with the character in combat, perhaps racial comparisons and the like.

    • More gameplay, less talk

In avatar the people were not plants and everything in the world had an organic ethernet port. God I hated that movie. Those blue people didn't have any plant like features at all.

Great idea to gather all the interesting bits from other videos and combine them, makes the info so much more succinct. Subscribed :)

I agree with that, I just dont like when ppl compare Avatar to anything, is like saying lord of the rings is a rip-off from wow lore

Also if you notice the eyes of the woman saying that in the video she looks like she is about to burst in tears.
