If you haven't seen Planetside in action as I hadn't, and you like FPS you NEED to see it! I'm gonna download the game tonight and try the 7 day free trial, it looks simply stunning to play.

A link to the free 7 day trial is here: http://www.marcopolo.me.uk/PS_AD.html

I was VERY skeptical, but not after that movie......imageimageimageimage

Ya, I watched a PS movie before and thought "Wow that sure looks cool!"
Then you get to play it and youre let down big time. Theres not many people playing, when you start out you cant even put a dent in most players armor and youll often be wandering around trying to find someone to fight (even with the 'send the me to the action' button).

PlanetSide is still a lot of fun. I've had an account since Beta there and still play from time to time. Easily the most fun FPS I've played. Get in a good outfit that uses TeamSpeak to truely unlock the fun of the game. There is an in-game voice chat system but it really isn't very good. TeamSpeak and other 3rd party apps like Ventrillo or BattleCom are superior to the in-game voice system.

Also has awesome voice-macros that let you give audible commands using the in-game macro system as well.

It's not a game that I play primarily but it's a fun game to hop on for an hour or so every couple days and just blow off steam by fragging a few enemies.

Like most SOE games, PS *looks* great...then you play it and go "wow...this game is pretty damn boring."

Yeah this game is completly stunning when you first play it, then your basicaly let down. I took a jeep and conquered a whole continent on my own since there was noone to defend it. Up until an enemy arrived with those kind of completly overpowered armor mecha thing and kicked me. It's still a fun game if you go right into the action: but beware of the lag!

Attacking an undefended area is generally going to cause this to happen :) If you want to FIGHT you need to go where the battle is. If you drop behind enemy lines where they don't have many/any defenders yet, you'll be able to run around hacking like crazy.

But I seriously doubt you conqureed a whole continent before someone smashed you :) You MIGHT have managed to land a hack on 1 base ... 2 at most. ... Most folks ignore tower hacks.

As to it being boring, it's definitelly not a game for everyone. I can only play it for an hour or so every few days because that kind of PVP is only fun for me to blow off steam in.

I once did 5 bases by myself but the only reason I left was because that got boring :S.  So I just went into the main battle to shoot stuff

Prior to CoreComcrap (the one and only expansion) this game was a true blast to play. Imagine looking over your base walls and seeing 250 enemy soldiers rushing your base.. Simple a wonderfull game back then. But someone over there at SOE dropped the ball agian decided this game was to fun so lets ruin it.

The result? PS lost 2 Devs (One being the top dog), the Forum C.S Rep and countless players. The game began to die in October of 03 and the final nail in the coffin was put in once they tried to make this Meck Warrior 04....Do people still play it? You bet, but the numbers are not even close to a fraction of what used to play this gem of a game that was drug through the crapper.

R.I.P Planetside   You had so much potential but SOE blew another one out its Butt hole.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

    Err
Another hater spouting doom and gloom. Planetside still has around 55,000 players. At it's peak it had 60,000. It's nowhere near dead.

I agree that Core was a goofy expansion but the game is hardly dead.

Where did you get 50,000 to 60,000 players?

I'd really like to know. I'm a long way back vet of ps. one of the best games I've ever played at its peek...then yeah core combat came out.........I'm so glad i didnt get that expansion.

Planetside is bascily in the same boat as EVE, its the only true mmo game of its type. Eve being the sci-fi and planetside being a first person shooter. Neocron and world war 2 online dont count cause there not fun and i said so.

at any one time on a server planetside has maybe 1000-2000 people. theres only 3 servers to choose from. Its probably less than that though.

There's probably 10,000< people actively playing it.

    sorry to say

Sony, kill planetside, start a sequel you faggotds!

First off, sony already said there developing a new MMOFPS, some fans have been calling is PS2, but it could be completely different. And secondly in response to:

Neocron and world war 2 online dont count cause there not fun and i said so.

Since when has your opinion counted? There are people that like these two and enjoy them. So before you start running your mouth and start flaming a game, I suggest you consider other players.....

Where I go to see MMORPG player figures is http://www.mmogchart.com. They appear to be unbiased and fairly accurate and they have damn near *everybody*, with the exception of few they can't get any decent figures on (like Matrix Online). They also give nice backround on their methodology. This is most likely where the other poster is getting his from, too, since his figures match MMOG Chart. I do note that while PS's figures have held more or less steady, they were headed *up* like a rocket...until Core Combat. Then they levelled off rather abruptly and the game has not made any gains since then.
