I never could get into the hero aspect of CoH they way I did with it's villainous counterpart. And DCUO is based on the DC universe which for me, reminds me of the comic books my little brother would read, not the ones I would read. I was strictly Marvel, all the way. Even today, I still think of DC as the "See Spot run!" of the comic book world, even though I know the stories have matured. A silly bias, but a deeply ingrained one.
There's still only one Hero/Villain MMO for me: CoV.
DCUO has way better graphics. Character customization is also better, you just have to earn some of the costume pieces through gameplay. DCUO has better combat, more fluid and NO ROOTING! DCUO has a larger more vibrant gameworld with no zone instances. The "dungeons " are more varied in DCUO. DCUO has better voice acting. Only advantage CoX has at this time is social menu/chat & UI. Whether or not SoE can step up and fix that is still up in the air. Basically 999 of every 1000 people are going to prefer DCUO over CoX if given the chance to play both. I loved playing CoX while I subbed but sadly it's going to be F2P before too long because of DCUO.
While CoX graphics are a bit outdated, there are many aspects in which the game can be seen better than DCUO. The character customization has body sliders and tons of pieces which I doubt even the best achiever in DCUO will get. The variety of power sets is huge: electricity, earth, sonic, energy, etc. However, the best part of CoX is teaming, its the best fluid team experience I have seen.
I have to agree that once you get used to faster paced games like CO or DCUO, CoX combat looks a little bit slow but it should be a temporal feeling. Of course, after so many years CoX veterans should be saturated and will look for the shiny new thing, but imho, for the player new to superhero mmo, CoX has more to offer than DCUO.
DCUO combat is too fast, and combat in DAOC was too slow. CoX hits the sweet spot with a balance of moderate speed, and the power rooting has been reduced a lot by castle before he left. CoX for the win! Going Rogue substantially updated the graphics, where it surpasses CO graphics, and in some aspects of DCUO.
First you have to define “fun” because it has different connotations for people, but “fun” in the sense of being spontaneous enjoyment I think DCUO is more fun. It's faster, more responsive, has better PVP, and does a great job of placing the player in the DC universe and allowing the player feel super-powered.
COX is a better MMO and RPG. COH has better character creation and customization allowing players better tools to create story with their characters, much better tools for allowing the community to interact and feel like they are playing with other players, gives a better sense of accomplishment, and more over all longevity as player are more likely to identify with their characters.
I don’t see how many can think that DCUO isn’t more fun to play, I mean it’s set up as an action game, but COH is a better value and has the potential to be more satisfying for many players. i think people get these two dichotomies understandably confused (not that some people can't enjoy COX's game-play more as well). Without some pretty major changes to DCUO I expect it to be free-to play within two years, as people will play it as a very extensive action game, while COH maintains it’s audience (assuming it weathers the first 3-6 months of DCUO).

I played CoX for a few years, tried CO and played through the DCUO beta. In my personal opinion, DCUO is more straight-up "fun", largely due to it's combat system. Between the three games, it's the only one that actually made me feel "super" from the very beginning as I tore through hordes of enemies. Did I have to wait to level 15 to get a travel power? No. Did I have to wait to get a cape? No.
Is DCUO perfect? Far from it. But, from my perspective, it's the most fun of the three.
All that being said, "fun" is subjective, so what's fun to me might not be for somebody else.
CoX is 7 yrs older and still looks better graphically then DCUO. Pretty sad when Energy Blast looks better then 3/4 of the powers in DCUO. If i wanted an action game i'd buy it for my ps3. It's 2011 and MMO's seem to be regressing. SAD!!!!
CoH is a deep, deep game. You can spend hours in the character creator let alone tweaking your build in Mids. Read the posts on the forums about the combat system and powers and the level of complexity is just unbelievable.
All I can say about DCUO is that DC's flagship character is Superman, and DCUO doesn't even have Invulnerability in it. That pretty much says it all as far as I'm concerned. DCUO has good graphics and lousy gameplay. And armor repair. I couldn't believe it has armor repair. Who's more like WoW again?
P.S. Animations. DC might have better graphics, but CoH actually has better animations, both combat animations and non-combat.
This is really comparing apples to oranges if you ask me (by the way as the Sheen would say Apples="Winning"). Yes they are both super-hero games, but their appealng features are so different you might as well compare the game Freedom Force too. I won't, but I felt like making an obscure game reference.
The action based combat in DCUO was fun, and the graphic were nice, but I never felt into it. Also the game is short. Also I was able to hit max level in just over a day. Yes there was some endgame content, but comeon... A day?
The social aspec of DCUO is a joke at best. Type chatting is cluncky at best and crippling at worst. Team finding was a bear. DCUO felt like a single-player action game that other people happened to also play. CoX has what I think are bar none some of the best social playing tools in the MMO industry, and more ways to play together coming in the Issue 20 update.
In the end I have cancelled my DCUO sub and reupped with CoX. Yes aspects of CoX are outdated, but it also released in 2004, and has continued to captivate since then. I want to play a Superhero MMO and DCUO never felt that way to me (To ME being the key words). Coming from CoX DC felt lacking. I don't know why exactly, the action combat was fun. In CoX the story lines continue, there are new places/worlds to discover and something new to always do is coming soon(tm). It's not perfect, but I think it's still the best option in the spandex mmo department for now.
Side note. If you are going to play DCUO I highly recommend getting a Game pad for your PC. DCUO with keyboard and mouse is terrible because it wasn't designed that way. The only time it felt fun was when I hooked up my xbox controller
(All statements made within this reply are FACT. My views and options are the only ones that matter and anyone who disagrees are idiots who don't know video games) This is a parody of some people. If you are one of those that became offended.... "Get over it!"

I suspect Freedom Force isn't an obscure game reference to most CoH players ( ' :
I don’t see how many can think that DCUO isn’t more fun to play, I mean it’s set up as an action game, but COH is a better value and has the potential to be more satisfying for many players. i think people get these two dichotomies understandably confused (not that some people can't enjoy COX's game-play more as well).
That's because you're taking a very egocentric attitude towards the question. Just stick to your answer rather than trying to figure out others ( ' :

DCUO is fun for awhile, but it's terribly shallow and more for twitch reflexes. CoH, speeds up considerably at later levels and is more tactical. I don't dislike DCUO. I currently play both, but CoH is much more fun in most respects right now. I think DCUO has great potential, but the devs there are going to have to stop the SOE "vision" thing and start listening. They will eventually. Hopefully the game won't have been too harmed by then.
dc = 1 mouth of gameplay tops, lv up way to fast at top lv all group content with a random group finder that has never work right eu servers are dead, this is a action game with a mmorpg sub set up, the devs need to see how random group finder should work just look at wow was done very well.
coh= been out alot longer slow to start and gets better the more you play more deeper game feels like an mmorpg great group action with a lfg sys that works. the power sets are great to.
coh is still the number one for this style game hands down.
They are two completely different games. I think DCUO can be compared to an FPS, where you can jump in for an hour or two and have a lot of fun. The combat is fast, tons of combos, you can block/roll to avoid damage, etc. I can jump into the arenas every night for a couple of hours and have a blast just fighting people. The PvP there is a lot better than CoH/V will ever dream of being. It reminds me of how I used to play street fighter for the hell of it, because it was fun and not because I was going to get phat lewt after each fight.
If you are looking for the more traditional MMO in a superhero setting, then CoH would be the choice. It has had 6 years of PvE content built on it, and aside from the incessant farming that goes on at the end-game, most of it it's pretty fun. I really miss the market PvP, definitely don't miss the PvP though. The grouping was fun too, but the grouping in DCUO is just as fun and easy to come by if you roll in a populated server. True, there won't be much grouping at the ealier levels, but it takes two days to reach the level cap anyway.
I'd like to change my vote back to CoX. I am back!
DC was fun, but its no MMO, its just a fun Action game that other people tend to play. They have not added content, the UI is still a PS3 UI, it was recently down for weeks along with Sony giving my credit card details to hackers.
I was max level in DC in days, there is a serious lack of any content at all, to be honest i had done most of it in under a month, and just played hoping they would add something, or ANY content!
Its also on Life support now, the PS3 server is jam packed, however the PC servers are completely dead, you can go a whole night seeing maybe 1 or 2 people, and due to the chat system is seems even emptier.
Shame, it had potential, but Sony blew it big time. Its actually a relief to get back into CoX and start a new Char on the Rogue expansion!

I agree with all your points. I returned to CoX 3 weeks ago when the Going Rogue expansion was $15.00 on Steam.
Yes, at this point the votes are in and DCUO was a bust. I wasn't surprised given what I saw in beta. And trying to play it on a PC with mouse and keyboard will break every knuckle in your hands. I get carpel tunnel just thinking about it.
Too me, I ended my subscription after finding out I could not make a character like green lanter. I think I had more freedom and fun with customization in COH and Champions online thatn with DCUO.
I will say as far as fun goes, that's a hard one, I liked the story missions of DCUO but again, loved the customization of COH and CO. tbh i like CO more...
But then again i haven't (nor will i) play DCUO.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

DCUO's studio's staff was cut by some 50% recently.

Ironically, CO and DCUO have only made CoH better, too...pushing them harder to serve the community.
CoX.
