    • All classes in solo mode are pet classes.

    • Space combat is a point and click minigame.

    • Heroic crafting ends as having NPCs do it for us.

    • On paper SWTOR has less features than games years older.

    • Not even KOTOR core features at launch: Pazaak and Swoop racing.

    • Story lines doesn't look that epic and it seems doesn't really have an impact on the outcome, but maybe a few times.

    • Replayability seems to be there only if you switch factions.

    • Some gear looks like coming directly from Wow: mage/warlock robes, epic shoulderpads.

    • Character heroic proportions look silly.

    • Game looks on rails or at least very directed

And that is with a budget even bigger than Tabula Rasa one.

    So... what went wrong?

Nothing went wrong since the game has not even come out yet.

Apparently not a lot with the number of preorders.

Well I do agree with some of the things the OP had to say.

Going to Tank/Healer/DPS in SW is bad, very bad

Combat in this game looks boring as hell, but wont know until I try, but looks like the same old same old.

Having said that I did buy the CE , why ?? well because I need a new MMO and so many friends are playing.

Why so many preorders ,well its SW, and all the attention it gets due to its massive budget , it will sell, will people stay, who knows

I am excited yet very concerned all at once.

You didn't correct it quite enough. There's no pvp involved.

Could have bought the standard edition and saved about 90 bucks.

What is the right?  What is the standard to compare to determine where the wrong is?

Or wait till the game launches before considering purchase, if there are so much concern.

Exciting =/= buying, unless buying as an act satisfies the excitement already.  My view.

    Its your money after all.

These threads are getting oh so tiresome... If you dont like the game, dont play it and leave us who actually look forward to the said game alone. Sweet dieties, dont you have anything better to do than whine about a game you alredy chosen to dislike?

One man's garbage is another man's treasure.  I like 95% of what has been revealed so far, so I guess I fall in the treasure category.

Yeah, as a former self Confessed Bioware Fanboi I think they are on the decline, they have alienated a lot of people by "redzoning them" & excluding them from SWTOR release which has generated a lot of ill will mainly for the way ti was mishandled.

DA2 from Bioware was junk, ME2 was uninspired. Their standards definitely seem to be slipping, I guess you can get away with pushing lower quality product if you have big business backing to absorb the risk.

I bought it cause so many friends are playing, and I bought the CE mostly for the Authenticator, haha

Too lazy to order it later, and its just money , but if most of my friends stay should be fun, most people probably get very bored and find a game sucks cause the solo all the time.

Mostly why I quit is because friends quit.

Wow.....lot of butt-hurt people around here spewing baseless claims about a game they've never played.

What happened to knowing what you were talking about before opening your mouth?? Did someone suddenly decide that wasn't a good idea anymore??

We learned it wasnt SWG2, an upgraded version of Pre-CU SWG. Pretty simple as that.

  • LizardEgyptLizardEgypt Member UncommonPosts: 333

The game is completely different than what it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be related to KOTOR, but it's joined the EQ formula with a bit more storytelling (Because voice acting is what makes immersion!). People are seeing budget and that's it...

    Currently playing - FF14ARR
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Planetside Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Too many.

Say what you want about it coming out of the BioWare Austin location and that "its not a real part of BioWare". Tons of people involved in the production of this game have been with BioWare for years including the production of Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and the Baldur's Gate series. Tons of Pre-EA titles.

Many of them even moved to Austin for the creation of that studio. I consider BioWare Austin a very important part of BioWare and I can't wait to this game finished and other projects that might evolve from there.

WOW is the biggest MMO ever.  If anything, the problem is that TOR isn't ENOUGH like WOW.  I like all the gurus here telling bioware that they should go away from the biggest hit MMO formula ever: LUL!!!!

What peeps want is WOW with lightsabers, even if they don't admit it.  Deep down you know it, I know it, and bioware SHOULD know it.

Anyone saying it's not a WoW clone takes Bioware for amateurs...

This thread was a lot more interesting when it contained animals/people in tin foil hats...maybe we could start a thread about that? It would be more productive than rehashing the same argument, yes? :)

I wonder why anyone is surprised that concepts changed from then till now. This is a big budget game with a lot hinging on its success or failure. Sure, most dev teams start out with wild ideas that inevitably become more conservative as the weight of dollars spent versus potential rewards hangs over their head. It’s harder to take chances when its your balls hanging over the fire…

This will always be a fruitless discussion.

Some people will only look at the similarities with the type of game that WoW is, and ignore the differences with WoW because those are often meaningless to them and they dislike the similarities.

Other people will look at the differences that - for them - are distinctive enough to make it a game with its own style and flavor and not some empty copy.

Again other people will look at SWTOR and feel it resembles more CoX in some aspects than other MMO's.

When it comes to opinion and taste, there is no such thing as one truth, only different preferences and ways of looking at the same thing, like how a glass can be half empty and half full at the same time.

    Lol. Here ya go:

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

Pre-CU SWG was not god-like be all end all in itself.  There are lots of things in that game that can be improved.

It is good for what it is, and there is no reason why ToR cannot be good for whatever it is, even tho it may be very different.

I wasn't saying the stolen Warcraft features were a bad thing, Rift stole most of Modern WoW's features and it was sucessful. It's just that there things being claimed about this game and we aren't allowed to dispute them because the 'game isn't out yet'. But it's just that, no one has played it  and we can only go by opinions and speculations...

Nothing went wrong - they are creating what they believe is a great game.

If you don't believe it is, don't buy or play it.
