This thread is just another "hate clone". Where's all the innovation huh? Why doesn't this thread rollerskate backwards on rocket powered hoverskates instead of just walking forwards bipedally like all those other threads? It even uses the same font and typeface .. I mean come on that's soooooo 2003 hateration.
I'm bored with this type of thread, I want something new and exciting like I dunno, maybe dinosaurs with lasers!!1
nothing is wrong, I see a new game that is about to come out just like every other game including WoW. even when WoW came out it had no PVP besides the open world. berly had any content. so stop whining and give ToR a chance.
I barely played Dragon Age: Origins and from what I've heard Dragon Age 2 wasn't as good as the first one in a lot of aspects, I'm sure there are enough arguments to say the opposite but I can say in the case of the Mass Effect franchise it wasn't that big of a difference. They just dumbed it down a bit for consoles, that plus the first one was almost ground breaking so anything after it will kinda feel "less than". It's that franchise rule, part 2's are rarely as good as part 1's.
If Bioware is "going down" then I'd like to be a part of a company that was "going down" the same way.
Their most critically acclaimed and best-selling games have been their most recent ones.
Hmmm....
"But, like, zomg, I mean, like, I PERSONALLY didn't like them as much so.. ummm, like, that means Bioware is done for man! FIGHT THE MAN!"
Pathetic...
Well, Biowares quality of games have gone down lately, BG 1 & 2 together with NWN is masterpieces, DA & ME is just pretty good. Not sure about TOR yet.
For some reason do they seems to earn more money now than before however so maybe it is just me.
The whole point of the thread was that some things have changed during development time, which seems pretty odd to me since that is something happening to all MMOs during the time they take to make.
The only ones that doesn't change a thing seems to be Cryptic, but that is just because they seems to be in such hurry to vomit out the next game all the time. Hopefully that changed since they were sold.
Interesting, how the mind works from one person to another
So, tell me, what shape do you see slowly surfacing when you 'open your mind' and 'use the force' from these pics:
I knew you could do better!
(snips the comments that were irrelevant to the request)
Heh, couldn't find any WoW similarities for the pics above, eh? No worries, I knew you'd fail in it and therefore completely ignore the request I made of you, it's all too predictable with some people
In general, as these pics and others of SWTOR's landscapes show, SWTOR will have its own distinctive style. Sure, people can take some pics and say 'Oh, look, see, it looks like WoW', or 'oh, look, it looks like CoX', or maybe even make comparisons with LotrO or TR or KOTOR or other games and find resemblances, but in the end SWTOR will have its own unique and recognisable style.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Those images look a lot like wow's engine. The textures, character models, lighting and particle effects, even the fire effect looks similar to the system used in wow. I mean even the world textures look similar to areas in wow. We've all played wow and many of us for years.
If you can at a quick glance say "Hey that looks like WoW.", then yeah the game looks like wow. If you have to look close to find the differences in the graphics engine of games then it's an art similarity or a graphical similarity. Realy since ToR is a scifi mmo, and wow is fantasy then the only huge difference I see is the character designs. Other than that I would say I've played a game or two that have very similar graphics engines to ToR.

Go back and look at WoW.
Can you read? I started playing before release. Played it this morning btw, got the obligitory come back for 7 days. Just confirmed that leaving was a good thing, and how much tor looks like a game 7 years old.

Shrug. Whatever. It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess. I've been playing a lot more MMO's than only WoW extensively, so I'm able to recognize similarities but also clear differences in looks with WoW, as well as similarities with other games, so there's another opinion and view next to you

Are you for real? How exactly do these images look "a lot" like WoW's engine? Why don't you post us an image showing WoW's particle (!!) and lighting effects. If you don't know how to post images here i'll gladly show you.
Initially the game was supposed to stay away from the holy Tank-Healer-DPSer trinity.
Then Combat was supposed to feel epic... to end with Wow like Boss kiting.
LS and force powers are now being used in Hutt Ball games.
All classes in solo mode are pet classes.
Space combat is a point and click minigame.
Heroic crafting ends as having NPCs do it for us.
On paper SWTOR has less features than games years older.
Not even KOTOR core features at launch: Pazaak and Swoop racing.
Story lines doesn't look that epic and it seems doesn't really have an impact on the outcome, but maybe a few times.
Replayability seems to be there only if you switch factions.
Some gear looks like coming directly from Wow: mage/warlock robes, epic shoulderpads.
Character heroic proportions look silly.
Game looks on rails or at least very directed
And that is with a budget even bigger than Tabula Rasa one.
So... what went wrong?
SPACE COMBAT WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE GAME IN 2008!
Can we stop with these BASELESS and stupid threads? As far as I can tell, the game has improved a GREAT deal since the speculation started for the basic design features in 2008. Saying "what went wrongf?" shows someone who is biased against this game from the get-go and searching for flaws everywhere.

I think this is one of the funniest threads ever speculating about what went wrong with a game that is not even released yet. NOTHING WENT WRONG....THE GAME IS NOT OUT YET. But I think it is looking pretty slick now and am looking forward to playing.
I don't understand the OP either. I haven't read the thread, because I think the basis for it seems all around idiotic and not well thought out at all.
I will say though, that my impression (and my impressions are the most important ones of all time) is that Bioware stayed on course throughout development. I don't think they deviated. I don't think they changed direction since making those design documents, when WoW was still in it's reign. They saw it and played it, and they thought they could make a good MMORPG set in Star Wars.
This had nothing to do with doing things differently. Just making you feel like a Star Wars Hero. That tagline can't be justified enough. Almost nothing else matters. It's why everything looks so familiar, it's why the classes are basically based on fan favorites like Han Solo, Fett, Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan and Darth Vader. That's what it is.
It was never anything else. It was a WoW meets Knights of the Old Republic.
The sooner the crybabies get this into their head, and just go with it. Just roll with it, then it will seem like a much better game. I too loved SWG - Those early days were everything to me, those old Star Wars movies was everything. But those are gone now, and if you take off your glasses with the lenses that only want to see things that you want to have, and put on the actual lenses that display the reality of what they were trying to achieve, you will see that nothing is wrong here.
Space combat, day and night cycles. In the grand scheme of things these things matter little. It's not what they were going for. They might go for this later, but this was not the point. This game is about being your own iconic star wars hero, based on those from the movies. That's it. That's the end of it. It's not dynamic, it's not in the spirit of the MMOs, it's taking it in a more single player direction, but so what?
The game will offer it's strengths, and it's strengths will go much deeper than games before. Story has been tried before, but nothing like this. It's retarded to dismiss their story engagement just because you spent a few hours on Tortage or whatever.
It would be like me saying that combat didn't matter in GW2 because Vindictus did something similar. You can't nitpick and take things out of content. Or you can, but then potentially all things will suck.
TL;DR - People who look forward to this game accepts it's strengths and weaknesses. They have acknowledged what type of this game is. If you do too, you will see that nothing is wrong.
Some players expected that they were being given a game to "their" specifications and not what the Devs wanted to make.
Just a thought.
I'm not all that confident that this is even the game that the devs wanted to make. With pushy and overbearing companies like EA and LA involved, Bioware probably faced a lot of pressure to develop a game that the despots wanted, rather than pursue their own vision just as they'd seen it. EA especially isn't well-known for having a hands off approach with developers.
Well, i dont think it will sink but the WOW-like-Epic-Shoulder-Pads be very much dispensable - I do not hope we will see more Epic WOW Armor!
If yes i beginn to pvp everyone wearing it for having a bad taste...
"Torquemada... do not implore him for compassion. Torquemada... do not beg him for forgiveness. Torquemada... do not ask him for mercy. Let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!"

This, however I would not blame EA as much as LA though.
