So I have been following the development of Diablo III for quite some time and the development of SWTOR and I find it funny that both claim to be released this year. However neither one is going to give an official release date even though they are in the final stages of their beta's. So who is worried of who? Bioware and Lucas Arts says in there press release that the release date is being keep secret to put off their competitor. My Friend at Blizzard says D3 should be ready around Blizcon 2011. So who is worried? Blizzard does not want to lose their player base and if Diablo III holds the player base till the new expansion 2012 then maybe SWTOR and there big gun friends Lucas Arts and EA will be shelved. Still with all the F2P who really wins!!!!!

blizzard can hold d3 for as long as they want, they got the funds for it, my money is on EA releasing a date before blizzard.
"I am not a robot. I am a unicorn."
I see ToR being released sometime late October-mid November.
I tend to agree with SOE blowing up SWG on 12/15/2010 just proves there can only be ONE
Since Diablo 3 is absolutely nothing like TOR, both companies most likely don't care.
I know for a fact that I will be buying and playing both.
This is just an "I hate SWTOR because I hate LucasArts or wanted SWG2 or both but I can't think of any good arguments" thread. And for your first post too, I would be ashamed.
I don't hate SWTOR if thats what you are refering to or maybe you just misunderstood the point. Usually developers give release dates but this time both companies have choosen not too and both have very much at stake ie development costs but I too plan on playing both.
Lol no way ea cancels tor. They have already sold over 400k pre orders in america alone. That said the reason they havent given an exact release date is simple. When u give an exact date and have to push back a week or 2 fans go nuts.
Im not talking a little nuts i mean over the top angry bees wanting to destory bioware and burn there studio to the ground kinda nuts.
So since they havent done stress testing on servers yet. Something they intend to do in september they wont give an exact date.
Blizzard games like d3 sell no matter what its not an mmo. Theres no sub its a buy to play game. Tor and d3 have nothing to do with each other d3 wil sell like hotcakes when its released just like star craft did. They dont need to keep from saying when they will release d3 to save wow.
They shouldnt of made cata a bad expansion. While i loved the new zones the class changes and total overhaul of tanking and healing were way to much . I had to relearn a pally in 5 levels. It doesnt even play remotely close to how it used to play.
My shaman was one of the few classes where the basics stayed the same. locks, dks, pallies, all changes there mechanics. I think thats is one thing that really hurt cata , That and they made tanking harder when they had trouble getting tanks to start with.
D3 and wow have nothing to do with each others success or the fear or ea. Ea will release tor when its ready they want to have the smoothest launch ever. So once they stress test there servers and knw how many can be on one server and be a smooth experiance we will find out more on an exact release date.
They are just holding off for that reason and that alone.

No SOE lost its Contract form Lucas because Lucas sold its contract to Bioware. I like no loved SWG b4 NGE and sad to see it go but there can not be 2 Star Wars MMO's thats all sorry to get your panties in a twist
Haha just expression like the other user said over 400k presales and me being one of them and its not being called out its an opinion and thats all. My post was not meant to be an arguing point like some people like to turn these threads into just an observation.........................
All I want to know is why would you talk about a MMo and compair it to a non MMo Pc game?
Chance had it right all you want to do is hate on a game with no idea of what the diffrence is in a MMo and a non MMo Pc game.
Your hole complaint would have more merit if you would of said Tor Vs AoC, but you did not. So clearly you are a hater. You should be ashamed of your self for even bring up this stupid topic.
Post again when you know what a MMo and a Non MMo are.
at gamescon this year blizzard commented on Bioware and TOR, but with reference to WOW not D3. Still with d3 pretty much being an mmo the 2 games will be competing for the same type of gamers. TOR doing beta weekends in sept stress testing their servers and pre sale of the game show that TOR will definitly be in your hands this year, with diablo proably coming out early next year, after the TOR craze wears off and the D3 craze will begin. Personally I am going to buy both, probaly play both at the same time
My bad I guess
I was trying to raise the issue on release dates and how this time for 2 major games neither company are giving out the release dates not that both are MMO's or NOT. This is why its in the General secton I don't hate either game and look forward to each and what it brings for ent. Funny how a tiny bit of confusion brings out the trolls
D3 is a rpg.
Your require internet connection to play 100% of the time.
Your connected to a massive amount of other players
D3 is a mmorpg
Diable 3 is not an mmo. Its a buy to play single player game with multip player aspects. Blizzard doesnt even say diable 3 is an mmo. Sorry its a diffrent audience.
Gw2 and tor are same audience but with diffrent pricing models u can do both. So tor and gw 2 arent competing for gamers either. While gw 2 will have a cash shop u dont have to use it. Or id hope u didnt. That said its a diffrent buisness model so its not really competing for gamers.
Which is why i dont get the gw2 vs tor argurment. Sure some gamers will play 1 or the other me for instance. Gw 2 doesnt look like my kind of game tor does. That said alot of people will play both.
Thats why i want both to succeed so much. The more games that succeed and have users the better for me as far as choice and having fun. I wish everyone could see that gw 2 and tor and rift all be succesful will only be a good thing for the mmorpg market.
IN the end it means if they are all a success more companies will take chances and maybe give u that inovative mmo u want so much. That said d3 and tor warent even competing with each other d3 is competing with games like crysis and other games that play on the pc not mmo's.
Around here a lot of people just read thread titles then flap off at the mouth. The sites admins have actually written articles on the subject lol.
To SB fans, please stop making our demographic look bad.Stop invading threads that have nothing to do with sandboxes.

They won't release on 12/15. They will probably want to distance themselves from SWG. Not to prove their can be only ONE, but because they have a particular type of product, and they don't want anyone to be confused or to even be thinking about SWG when SW:ToR releases.
My money is on Nov. 2011 though. If they can release in Nov., they'll have a head start on the holiday season, and it'll give them just enough time before Christmas to generate a lot of news. If they can get it out just before Thanksgiving, they'll have a lot of people logged in from the start. There's also enough time between now and then for them to finish out the beta and have a product done (they are a triple A developer with a lot of experience).
As far as D3 goes, I have no idea. Blizzard has had years to get used to the idea that they don't have to release by a particular time and they can release stuff "when it's ready". They might hold off until Christmas 2012 for all I know.
I'm sure each company is looking at the other company's product, but that's because they're looking at the entire gaming industry. I don't think the release dates for each product will be affected overmuch by the other one though.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
The delay in announcing the dates for D3 and SWToR have a lot to due with polishing. Both companies are shooting for a pre xmas date. I am not sure either will be ready by then.
