I was wondering if I made a scrapper and my wife a corrupter.....could we both become vigilanties?  If so would we be able to run missions on both the Villain and Hero side?

Not quite sure... A scrapper will morality-shift to vigilantie and villain will morality-shift to rogue; at this point both have access to both sides. I'm looking at this site. Here is a relavant bit:

What can I do in the other faction's zones?

You can collect badges, join task/strike forces, trials, do paper missions, do radio missions, use the stores, use the tailors, and use the consignment houses.

Presumably, if you can join task/strike forces, then you can group up for other missions. If not then the rogue would have to switch to the Hero side and then "fall from grace" to vigilantie status. I'm assuming that you both have the Going Rogue expansion; without it, you can get "tips" but can't switch your morality.

If you both have the Going Rogue expansion then you can both start characters together in Praetoria then when you reach 20 choose which side you want to send your hero/villains to, ie send them both to the Hero side to play together. I never played the expansion much but even after that you can choose to switch back over to the other side (likely have to do a mission arc or something) to do the content there together.

When CoH:Freedom goes live, the ATs should no longer be restricted by morality.  That is, Corruptors can start out as villains OR HEROES.  Likewise, your scrapper will be able to start as hero OR VILLAIN.  You can do this without Going Rogue.

Hmm, didn't know that....starting Praetoria.  Also didn't know that the next expansion makes it so you can start in either area.

I am familiar with both starting areas but the hero side seems to have more people....also it is not so depressing.  Even though I like the dark side...it did get a bit depressing.  Also, the hero side brings back fond memories of when I played back in 2004!

A vigilante will be 'limited' to all hero side content, villain side newspaper missions and mayhem missions.  They can also join any regular villain's team and do content that way (Strike forces, normal contact content and such).

A rogue will be 'limited to all villain side content, hero side police scanner missions and safeguard missions.  They can also join in any regular hero's team and do content that way (Task forces, normal contact content and such).

The best way for two people to run the spread of hero and villain content would be for one to play a rogue and one to play a vigilante.  The only thing is you wouldn't be able to share Oroborous content since the Oro instance is side-locked.  Oh, also you wouldn't be able to join each other until level 20 at the earliest since you don't start getting any of the 'tip' missions that allow side-switching until then.

    Thanks, very informative posts.

So if we both started in Praetoria we could level as hero/villain up to level 20 and then go rogue/vigillante?

  • hehenephehenep Member UncommonPosts: 221

Yea, that might be easiest.  Both start in Praetoria where you'll be able to level together to 20.  Then one go villain and the other go hero and temporarialy ignore normal contacts and focus on getting your tip missions and shift into being a vigilante and rogue.  If you're worried about drifting appart level-wise while you're doing that then you should be able to just level pact your characters.  I'm pretty sure level pacts don't break if you switch to separate sides at least.

I've never actually tried this myself, so I'm not sure how it'd work in practice.  There might be a time or three where you have to do police scanner/newspaper missions in order to unlock a contact that you might otherwise not have had to do, but in general it should work out well enough if you want to play across both sides of content without having to constantly switch sides (which always takes 2 days at the minimum).
